  • Patent number: 8867507
Abstract: A split-plane mobility network architecture separates control and data plane operations typically encapsulated in a conventional wireless controller. Configurations provide a unified split-plane mobility switch that separates the data transport and switching in a separate hardware element, and performs control plane operations via exchanges with a centralized topology, rather than simply by adjacent switches within range. In contrast to conventional switch deployment, in which the same switch handles processing demands of the control plane and the data plane, the disclosed approach separates the data plane processing base by employing a mobility agent to define adjacent switch visibility. Thus, the routing capabilities of the data plane may be enhanced, such as to handle increasingly bandwidth-hungry applications of the same user base, without uprooting the infrastructure defined by the control plane.

  • Patent number: 8855003
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing a virtual private network are disclosed. For example, the method collects performance data for at least one parameter from a plurality of customer edge routers and a plurality of provider edge routers associated with the virtual private network. The method correlates the performance data for identifying one or more performance exceptions based on a threshold for each of the at least one parameter, and performs a trending analysis using the one or more performance exceptions to predict a potential problem that will impact the virtual private network.

  • Patent number: 8854975
Abstract: A shared (proxy) OAM session is performed in a packet-based network on behalf of a plurality of connections. First and second connections are each routed between respective nodes of the network for carrying data traffic. The second connection shares a portion of the routing of the first connection. The shared OAM session is performed along a path which is co-routed with at least part of the shared portion of the routing of the first connection and the second connection. Failure notification signalling is propagated to an endpoint node of each of the first and second connections when the shared OAM session indicates a failure has occurred. The use of a shared OAM session reduces processing at nodes and reduces OAM traffic. Each connection can be a trunk, such as a PBT/PBB-TE trunk, or a service carried within a trunk.

  • Patent number: 8811424
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code to receive data from a source at a plurality of gateways for distribution using a selected priority. The data is transmitted from the plurality of gateways to a plurality of receivers using the selected priority. Every gateway in the plurality of gateways has an adaptive bandwidth control process and a respective set of parameters for controlling the adaptive bandwidth control process for sending the data at the selected priority. Transmission of the data from each gateway for the selected priority has a different impact on other traffic at different gateways in the plurality gateways for the selected priority when different values are set for the set of parameters for the different gateways.

  • Patent number: 8761022
Abstract: A consistent tie-breaking decision between equal-cost shortest (lowest cost) paths is achieved by comparing an ordered set of node identifiers for each of a plurality of end-to-end paths. Alternatively, the same results can be achieved, on-the-fly, as a shortest path tree is constructed, by making a selection of an equal-cost path using the node identifiers of the diverging branches of the tree. Both variants allow a consistent selection to be made of equal-cost paths, regardless of where in the network the shortest paths are calculated. This ensures that traffic flow between any two nodes, in both the forward and reverse directions, will always follow the same path through the network.

  • Patent number: 8681607
Abstract: A network element implementing Multiprotocol Label Switching to automatically create an optimal deterministic back-up Label Switch Path (LSP) that is maximally disjointed from a primary LSP to provide a reliable back up to the primary LSP. The network element receives a request for a generation of an LSP, determines that the request for the generation of the LSP is for the back-up LSP, locates each link of the primary LSP in a traffic engineering database, modifies each link of the primary LSP to have a link cost significantly greater than an actual link cost to discourage use of each link of the primary LSP in the back-up LSP, executes a Constrained Shortest Path First algorithm to obtain the back-up LSP, wherein the back-up LSP has a maximum disjointedness from the primary LSP due to a modified cost of each link of the primary LSP, and returns the back-up LSP.

  • Patent number: 8675552
Abstract: An apparatus is capable of transmitting information via an uplink control channel in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) communication system. Uplink control information is encoded to obtain a predetermined bit string. A signal sequence corresponding to the predetermined bit string is generated. The signal sequence is cyclic-shifted according to a predetermined rule. The cyclic-shifted signal sequence is controlled according to a subframe length. Therefore, reception performance deterioration of an uplink control channel allocated to an irregular subframe can be minimized.

  • Patent number: 8644343
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for establishing a path, having a certain QOS-class, between a modem and an edge node over a communications network. The communications network comprises an Access Multiplexer and an Ethernet aggregation network, where the Access Multiplexer couples the modem to the Ethernet aggregation network. The modem is coupled to the Access Multiplexer over at least one ATM connection. The modem forwards an ARP request, that is received from a host terminal, for an address of the edge Node over an ATM having a certain QOS-class. The Access Multiplexer intercepts the ARP request that is forwarded by the modem and assigns a chosen address for the edge node based on information on the edge node that is contained in the ARP request. Subsequently, the Access Multiplexer includes this chosen address in an ARP reply.
