  • Patent number: 7953113
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code to receive a user input defining settings at an application layer to form a set of received settings. An adaptive bandwidth control process is executed using the received settings to identify a transmission rate for transmitting data packets across a network. The data packets are transmitted across the network using the identified transmission rate.

  • Patent number: 7953025
Abstract: A method for providing load reference data in a CDMA system comprises measuring of received total wideband power and of received scheduled enhanced uplink power. State variables are selected corresponding to cell power quantities and measurement functions are selected corresponding to the measured received total wideband power and the measured received scheduled enhanced uplink power. A probability distribution for a first power quantity—related to the selected state variables—is estimated. A conditional probability distribution of a noise floor measure is computed based on the estimated probability distribution for the first power quantity. Load reference data is provided based on the computed conditional probability distribution of the noise floor measure. In a preferred embodiment, the first power quantity is a measure of the difference between received total wideband power and received scheduled enhanced uplink power. The load reference data can be used in e.g.

  • Patent number: 7948989
Abstract: Methods and systems to enhance local repair in robust header compression (RoHC) decompressors (110, 114), which may improve network transmission efficiency and quality. One method uses lower layer information to enhance local repair at the decompressor (110, 114). Another method uses a user datagram protocol (UDP) checksum to enhance local repair at the decompressor (110, 114).

  • Patent number: 7944811
Abstract: In one embodiment, a multicast router initiates non-stop forwarding (NSF) recovery. In the NDF recovery, data traffic forwarding operations continue throughout a data plane of the multicast router in the presence of a failure in a control plane of the multicast router. When the multicast router receives incoming multicast packets on an interface during the NSF recovery, it compares the incoming multicast packets with entries of a multicast forwarding table of the data plane of the multicast router. In response to the comparison, the multicast router prevents multiple multicast forwarders from forwarding multicast packets for a route over a link coupled to the interface during the NSF recovery.

  • Patent number: 7924722
Abstract: Each network node having at least one destination-oriented link toward a directed acyclic graph (DAG) destination can receive a corresponding set of path performance metrics via the destination-oriented link. The set of path performance metrics, initiated by the DAG destination outputting initial link metrics on each of its source-connecting links, identifies aggregate link metrics for a corresponding path to the DAG destination via the corresponding destination-oriented link. The network node outputs a corresponding updated set of path performance metrics on each of its source-connecting links based on the received set of path performance metrics and the corresponding link metric for the corresponding source-connecting link. Hence, each network node in the DAG can assess the performance of each connected path to the DAG destination, and forward a data packet via a selected destination-oriented link based on the corresponding path performance metrics and forwarding policies for the forwarded data packet.

  • Patent number: 7889642
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a GMPLS fast re-route of packets within a network using a multicast address and a table comprising a list of alias IP addresses. According to various embodiments of the invention an alternate data path from a source node to a destination node allows a packet to traverse to the destination node without IP forwarding techniques being applied. In other words, a tunneling effect from a source node to a destination node allows other nodes in the network to ignore the packet and only read the multicast address within the header and immediately forward the packet to the destination node. A predetermined set of IP addresses are determined from network topology including all potential paths, for a packet to traverse, to a destination address.

  • Patent number: 7889670
Abstract: Methods, systems, devices, and software are disclosed for providing controlled access to network characteristic data stored at a subscriber premises. In one embodiment, Internet services are provided to a subscriber through a subscriber's modem, connected to the Internet through an access network, and to a number of data terminals on a local network. The modem is adapted to receive and/or generate data from the connected networks and devices for use in generating network characteristic data. This data is stored in an access-controlled data storage module. Content providers may then login to the modem and query network characteristic data. The modem is configured to authenticate the content provider, and, if authorized and available, return the queried data to the content provider. The content provider may then communicate information to the subscriber's data terminal through the modem, according to the network characteristic data returned by the query.

  • Patent number: 7889649
Abstract: Embodiments of a method and system for gateway communication are disclosed. A rate evaluator may be configured to receive a call packet. A quality of service (QOS) specification regarding routing of a local request may be generated for an application according to a business policy. The QOS specification may be available for receipt. A first service gateway may be in communication with the rate evaluator and located in a data center. The first service gateway may be configured to receive the local request from a client machine located in the data center and generate and provide the call packet for the local request to the rate evaluator. The first service gateway may be further configured to receive the QOS specification from the rate evaluator, and route the local request according to the QOS specification to a second service gateway not in the data center.

  • Patent number: 7860029
Abstract: A subscriber line accommodation device and packet filtering method is provided. In response to a request for acquisition of an IP address from a user terminal, a DHCP server in the subscriber line accommodation device allocates an IP address, registers a set of the allocated IP addresses, a MAC address of the user terminal, and a line number in a DHCP management table. The subscriber line accommodation device sets the registered information in an input filter section as a packet passing condition. Among packets sent from user terminals, the input filter section sends only those packets satisfying registered conditions toward a bridge forwarder and discards those packets not satisfying the conditions. Even when access is attempted by illegally using an IP address, the packet concerned is discarded unless the line number or a MAC address agrees.

  • Patent number: 7826478
Abstract: According to the embodiments of the techniques of this application, a wireless data device or other data node sends solicitation messages periodically to a wireless gateway, such as a PDSN, when there is no data traffic between the wireless data device and a wireless data network. Each solicitation message resets the simple IP inactivity timer on the wireless gateway. When multiple wireless data devices send solicitation messages, the interval between subsequent transmissions of solicitation messages is randomised to reduce the probability of collision with the solicitations from other devices on the same wireless link. The solicitation timer, for instance, may be based on the simple IP inactivity timer setting on the wireless network, and the number of wireless data devices that the wireless data network serves. Expiration of the solicitation timer at the wireless data device or other data node causes the next solicitation message to be sent from or on behalf of the wireless data device.

  • Patent number: 7756036
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer program products that synchronously communicate data packets between a first node and a second node. Data packets are transmitted from the first node without waiting for acknowledgment of receipt by the second node. Acknowledgment of receipt of a given data packet is subsequently received at the first node. The acknowledgement is received substantially at a predetermined time following transmission of the given data packet. The acknowledgement indicates that the second node received the given data packet uncorrupted.
