Patent number: 9042252Abstract: An appliance receives packets that are part of a flow pair, each packet sharing an application protocol. The appliance determines the application protocol of the packets by performing deep packet inspection (DPI) on the packets. Packet sizes are measured and converted into packet size states. Packet size states, packet sequence numbers, and packet flow directions are used to create an application protocol estimation table (APET). The APET is used during normal operation to estimate the application protocol of a flow pair without performing time consuming DPI. The appliance then determines inter-packet intervals between received packets. The inter-packet intervals are converted into inter-packet interval states. The inter-packet interval states and packet sequence numbers are used to create an inter-packet interval prediction table. The appliance then stores an inter-packet interval prediction table for each application protocol.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2012Date of Patent: May 26, 2015Assignee: NETRONOME SYSTEMS, INCORPORATEDInventors: Gavin J. Patent number: 8971210Abstract: A configurable network adapter has N analog front ends, each generating a receiver output and a transmitter input. In a first mode of operation, the analog front end receiver outputs are coupled to a MIMO equalizer, which is coupled to an outer receiver and to a first MAC input, with the first MAC having an output coupled to an outer transmitter, a MIMO modulator, and to the analog front end transmitter inputs. In a second mode of operation, one or more of the analog front ends is directed to a SISO modulator fed by a second outer transmitter coupled to a second MAC transmitter output. An associated one or more of the analog front end receivers is coupled to a SISO equalizer, and thereafter to an outer receiver and to the second lower MAC, thereby providing a first mode for a single MIMO adapter and a second mode for a MIMO plus independent PAN interface.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2011Date of Patent: March 3, 2015Assignee: Redpine Signals, Inc.Inventors: Partha Sarathy Murali, Logeshwaran Vijayan

Patent number: 8958430Abstract: Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) Non-stop Routing (NSR) with frozen standby LSDB is described. A network element includes a first OSPF instance initially acting as an active OSPF instance and a second OSPF instance initially acting as a standby OSPF instance. The second OSPF instance receives LSAs from the first OSPF instance and installs the LSAs in its LSDB. The LSAs in the LSDB are only aged by the active OSPF instance. Patent number: 8958418Abstract: Various techniques can be used to handle frames within multi-stage switching fabric. For example, in one method, a frame and an associated frame header are received at a switching fabric stage. The associated frame header includes a first field and a second field. The method selects one or more fabric points of exit within the switching fabric stage, based on the second field. The first field is used to select one or more other fabric points of exit within another switching fabric stage, and thus two different fields within the associated frame header specify fabric points of exit. The method then sends the frame to the selected fabric points of exit within the switching fabric stage.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2011Date of Patent: February 17, 2015Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth M. Patent number: 8953598Abstract: A method and a system for determining the existence of broadcast/multicast frames buffered in an access point (AP) are used to avoid wakening a station (STA) unnecessarily. The method includes: when receiving broadcast/multicast frames sent from a service network and/or multicast group, an AP sets a broadcast/multicast indication bit that associates the service network and/or multicast group to the valid state and sends frames that carry the broadcast/multicast indication bit to a STA; the STA determines whether there are broadcast/multicast frames buffered in the AP according to the associated service network and/or multicast group and the received broadcast/multicast indication bit. Embodiments of the present disclosure also disclose an AP and a STA. The AP can identify whether there are broadcast/multicast frames buffered in an AP.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2012Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.Inventors: Huimin Zhang, Liangyao Mo

Patent number: 8953613Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for providing dynamic Quality of Service (QoS) for connections to applications over a network are provided. The method receives a message associated with the application, wherein the message includes information identifying the connection to the application and information about the application. The method then determines, based on a set of rules defined for the application, a QoS level to apply to the connection, and applies the determined QoS level to the connection. The QoS applied to the connection corresponds to the application and not the QoS associated with a personal or home account QoS that would otherwise be applied to the connection.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2010Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: Bridgewater Systems Corp.Inventors: Andrew Jamie Davidson, David John Brooks, Michael James Berry

Patent number: 8953627Abstract: A server-client system or architecture that allows datacast applications to reliably transport data objects from a network server over a unidirectional packet network (“datacast network”) to one or more clients, each of which may be listening to the packet stream at different times. The invention allows the clients to listen intermittently to the datacast, yet still receive all of the data objects published by the server in a timely manner, and in a way that is more optimal in terms of client resource use. This ensures that listening clients can receive a complete set of the data objects broadcast while being able to conserve client processing and power resources by not requiring continuous listening by the client to the datacast.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2012Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: Roundbox, Inc.Inventors: Peter Andrew Mataga, Igor Slepchin

Patent number: 8953570Abstract: A method of operating a radio frequency identification (RFID) system is provided. The method interrogates RFID tags with an RFID reader and provides at least some of the collected tag data to a mobile device that is unable to communicate with RFID tags using the over-the-air interface. In some situations, the RFID system obtains the current location of the mobile device and determines the location of a target tag relative to the current location of the mobile device. Locating the target tag in this manner involves the interrogation of a reference tag located at the mobile device, along with the target tag, using one RFID reader. The position of the target tag relative to the reference tag is calculated in response to the tag response signals obtained from the target and reference tags. Moreover, location of the target tag can be independently determined relative to the location of a mobile reader, by using a reference tag attached to a fixed reader or to the mobile reader.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2010Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: Symbol Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Lang Lin, Chandrashekhara Harischandra, Deepak Khade
