  • Patent number: 7979731
Abstract: A time authentication device identifies clocks that show a time falling within the predetermined permissible range as compared with a time shown by the time authentication device. In a time authentication device embodied as a distribution device, a time-relation information storage unit stores a playback-device-time measured by a clock unit of a playback device, and also stores a distribution-device-time measured by a clock unit when the playback-device-time is acquired. The time authentication unit acquires from the playback device a target time measured by the clock unit, and also acquires an authentication time measured by the clock unit when the target time is received. The time authentication unit then calculates a first difference, a second difference, an authentication difference. If the authentication difference is smaller than or equal to a predetermined threshold, the time authentication unit judges that the clock unit of the playback device is valid.

  • Patent number: 7979690
Abstract: Method for booting from a backup, including loading an initialization application that identifies a storage with a backup; activating a handler of a BIOS interrupt module, for intercepting boot loader requests to the storage, and for redirecting them to the backup; creating a bitmap of the blocks in the backup and of a writable storage device to which new data will be written; initiating the BIOS to load and execute boot blocks from the backup; transferring control to a routine defined by a boot record in the boot blocks; activating an I/O filter for intercepting requests to the writable storage device; for write requests, the filter writes a corresponding block to the writable data storage, and marks this block in the bitmap; for read requests, the filter checks the bitmap if this data block was unchanged, and redirects the read request to the backup, otherwise, the filter redirects the read request to the writeable storage device.

  • Patent number: 7966503
Abstract: Clients and server are interconnected through a gateway card of a personal computer. The clients and the servers have different communication protocols. When a client makes a request to access a server, the gateway card executes this access request even if the personal computer is in a power-save mode. When a client makes a request to access the personal computer and if the personal computer is in power-save mode, the gateway card changes the mode of the personal computer to a normal mode, executes the access request, and changes the mode of the personal computer to the power-save mode.

  • Patent number: 7962737
Abstract: The disclosure provides a system, method, and computer readable medium for booting a diskless client in an information handling system (IHS). Cached boot data is stored in a non-volatile memory of the diskless client. The diskless client sends a boot request with an identifier and receives a boot reply containing an image signature associated with the identifier. The diskless client determines whether there is a match between a cached image signature and the received image signature. If there is a match, the diskless client boots with the cached boot data. If there is not a match, the cached boot data is invalidated and new boot data is requested and received from a server. The diskless client stores the new boot data in the non-volatile memory and boots with the new boot data. The cached boot data may be update when network traffic is below a predetermined level and/or an administrator change to boot data affects a plurality of diskless clients.

  • Patent number: 7953966
Abstract: The semiconductor device with the power down mode includes a power down detecting block for generating a power down mode signal by detecting if the power down mode is activated, a power source control block for producing a power control signal whose ratio of an enable period to a disable period is determined by the power down mode signal, a current saving block whose driving current requirement is reduced in the power down mode, a power switching block for controlling the power supply to the current saving block in response to the power control signal, and a current non-saving block whose driving current requirement in the power down mode is identical to that in a normal operation mode. The semiconductor device can prevent the current consumption due to off-leakage components and static current components generated at internal analog circuits in the power down mode.

  • Patent number: 7945795
Abstract: A method, computer program product and system for enabling a client device in a client device/data center environment to resume from sleep state more quickly. The resource in the server blade used for suspending the activity of the computing state of the client device in order to enter the client device in a sleep state is not reallocated for a period of time. If the client device indicates to the server blade to resume the client device from sleep state prior to the ending of that period of time, then the server blade reinitializes the computing state using the same resource as used in suspending the computing state of the client device. By using the same resource, steps traditionally implemented in resuming the client device from sleep state are avoided thereby reducing the time in resuming the client device from sleep state.

  • Patent number: 7945802
Abstract: Described herein are processes and devices that intentionally modify time progression rates in a virtual universe. One of the devices described is a temporal variation device. The temporal variation device can determine an area, in a virtual universe, in which time progresses at a specific time progression rate. The temporal variation device can modify the time progression rate to be faster or slower in the area. By modifying the time progression rate in the area, rates at which action occur also change in a way that is correlated to the change in the time progression rate. The temporal variation device can maintain areas beyond the borders of the area at a time progression rate that is not modified. Therefore, the temporal variation device can create a relative time dilation between the determined area and other areas in the virtual universe outside of the determined area.

  • Patent number: 7941689
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of minimizing clock uncertainty using a multi-level de-skewing technique. The method includes the steps of obtaining a chip wherein at least a portion of the chip has a regular array of buffers on multiple levels, the buffers being driven by first drivers and the first drivers being driven by second drivers; grouping the buffers in a first direction to create clusters with the same number of buffer inputs, wherein if there are not the same number of buffer inputs in each cluster, then adding dummy buffers to the cluster with a deficient number of buffer inputs; wiring outputs of the first drivers together in a second direction, wherein the first and second directions are orthogonal; and wiring outputs of the second together in the second direction.

  • Patent number: 7934083
Abstract: A highly configurable kernel supports a wide variety of content protection systems. The kernel may reside in a host that interacts with a secure processor maintaining content protection clients. After establishing communication with the secure processor, the host receives messages from content protection clients requesting rules for message handling operations to support client operations. This flexible configuration allows for dynamic reconfiguration of host and secure processor operation.

  • Patent number: 7930573
Abstract: An improved method is provided for managing workload on a multi-server computer system. In one embodiment, a subset of servers is selected according to an anticipated net workload. The remaining servers in the system may be powered off to conserve energy and prolong equipment life. Workload is dynamically apportioned among the subset of servers at selected intervals to more uniformly distribute the mean and variance of the workload among the subset of servers. More particularly, the mean and the variance for each of a plurality of workload units are equally weighed in determining a ranking of the workload units. The workload units may be ordered according to a mathematical combination of the mean and variance, such as the sum or product of mean and variance for each workload unit. The workload units are allocated among the subset of servers in according to rank, such as by assigning the workload units to the servers in a reverse round-robin fashion according to rank.
