  • Patent number: 9860042
Abstract: A method of a mobile station for transmitting a ranging signal in a wireless communication system which supports Fractional Frequency Reuse (FFR) and an apparatus for performing the method are provided. The method includes receiving information of ranging resource allocation, from a base station, based on the information of the ranging resource allocation, determining a cell identifier and a Frequency Partition (FP) location for uplink control channels, determining a subband index for the ranging resource allocation based on the cell identifier and a number of subbands allocated to the FP location for the uplink control channels, and transmitting a ranging signal based on the subband index for the ranging resource allocation. Thus, interference to a neighboring cell may be reduced in the ranging channel transmission.

  • Patent number: 9854590
Abstract: Techniques for communicating on multiple carriers in a wireless communication network are described. In an aspect, different transmit power levels may be used for different carriers to mitigate interference. A first base station may be assigned one or more carriers among multiple carriers available for communication. A second base station may be assigned one or more carriers not assigned to the first base station. Each base station may communicate on each assigned carrier at a first (e.g., full) transmit power level and may communicate on each unassigned carrier at a second (e.g., lower) transmit power level lower. The first and second base stations may belong in different power classes or support different association types. In another aspect, control information may be sent on a designated carrier to support communication on multiple carriers. In yet another aspect, a base station may broadcast bar information indicating the status of carriers.

  • Patent number: 9838217
Abstract: A Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) link involves using a protocol stack having a CPRI layer and an emulation layer to emulate a point to point link, to enable the CPRI link to operate over a packet switched network. The emulation layer can be a pseudowire emulation which encapsulates multiple CPRI frames in a packet with overhead. A multiplexing layer such as Internet Protocol (IP) or Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) can be used, for sending the packet over an Ethernet network. The usual need for a point to point infrastructure for the CPRI link can be avoided and the CPRI link can be implemented over more complex but usually cheaper packet networks, thus reducing costs or enabling more widespread application over existing packet networks. This applies whether the packet network is dedicated to the CPRI link, or shared with other packets. It can be useful for distributed radio base stations.

  • Patent number: 9838248
Abstract: The disclosure describes techniques that enable a network device to determine a confidence level for a network alarm and provide information indicative of the confidence level to other devices. For example, a network device may experience any number of conditions that cause the network device to output an alarm. In addition to or instead of simply sending out the alarm, the network device may perform operations to determine a confidence level associated with the alarm. For instance, the network device may determine whether the conditions that caused the alarm continue or whether the conditions can be validated. The network device may output information indicative of the confidence level.

  • Patent number: 9820289
Abstract: A method and system for managing quantity of carriers to aggregate together in carrier aggregation service, based at least in part on consideration of the type of content that will be communicated to or from the user equipment device (UE) at issue. A base station serving the UE may determine a type of content that will be communicated between the base station and the UE and, based at least on the determined type of content, may decide whether to apply carrier aggregation and, when the decision is to apply carrier aggregation, determine, based at least on the determined type of content, how many component carriers to aggregate together in the carrier aggregation service of the UE. The base station may then modify an air interface connection with the UE to encompass the determined number of component carriers.

  • Patent number: 9801077
Abstract: A method and apparatus of performing discontinuous reception (DRX) and downlink inter-frequency and inter-radio access technology (RAT) measurements in CELL_FACH state are disclosed. While in DRX mode, a wireless transmit/receive unite (WTRU) may perform inter-frequency and inter-RAT measurements in a measurement occasion that fall into a DRX period. The WTRU may take the measurements on first predetermined number of frame in which a DRX frame would coincide after a last reception frame if DRX operation was ongoing. The WTRU may periodically wake up for downlink reception in CELL_FACH state in accordance with common DRX pattern that is common to all WTRUs in a cell or may wake up from DRX upon reception of the order and receiving a common traffic.

  • Patent number: 9794796
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for communicating data in a wireless communications network are described herein. In some aspects, a relay provides relay services for network communication between a first station and a second station. In one aspect, the relay may receive data packets sent to the second station by the first station, and retransmit the data packets if it determines that the second station has not acknowledged the data packet. In one other aspect, the first station may be configured to transmit a relay-able acknowledgement that includes a sequence number identifying data being acknowledged. The relay may be configured to receive a transmission of a first relay-able acknowledgement by the first station and retransmit a second relay-able acknowledgement if it determines the second station did not receive the first relay-able acknowledgement sent by the first station. In some aspects, the second station is an access point.

  • Patent number: 9794758
Abstract: Systems and methods for improving data transmission rates in communication networks are disclosed. In an 802.11 wireless communication network, where a source node of the wireless network transmits TCP data to a destination node of the wireless network, the destination node does not transmit TCP acknowledgments (ACKs) for the TCP data if 802.11 ACKs indicate that the destination node received the TCP data. If a source outside the wireless network transmits TCP data to the destination node within the wireless network through an intermediate device, such as an access point, the destination node suppresses transmitting TCP ACKs. The intermediate device transmits TCP ACKs as proxy for the destination node to the source. The intermediate device also suppresses TCP ACKs where a source node within the wireless network sends the TCP data to a destination node outside of the wireless network.
