  • Patent number: 5885176
Abstract: Applicant's invention defines a portable volleyball net and stand which comprises two standards having a set of guys in a "V" configuration connected to ground anchors and adjustable for tensioning the top of each standard. The lower net edge line passes through slots in the standard and is either directly coupled to the ground via two lines in a "Y" configuration, or is connected to guys, providing a single tensioning capability. Ground anchors of a coiled configuration are provided for strength and stability. The line connected to the top edge of the net is directed through a slot in the standard and looped about a fixed ring therein, finally exiting the standard through a second slot, for a different net height. The standards are capable of being assembled together providing portability to the system.

  • Patent number: 5882010
Abstract: A game having a target and a projectile that is tossed or pitched to the target. The target has a bottom, has a cup generally centered on the bottom, and perimeter sidewalls that are spaced outward from the cup and surround the bottom. The projectile is a disk member that has indicia disposed thereupon to distinguish the projectile from other projectiles. The target may optionally include an anchor to anchor the target to a surface. Further, the projectile may be a washer that is enclosed in a protective layer. The protective layer may define the distinguishing indicia. The sidewalls may also be constructed as hollow walls, having inner and outer portions. The hollow may optionally be filled with a filler material.

  • Patent number: 5882271
Abstract: A basketball court is disclosed, having a circle on the floor under each goal hoop to clearly designate the area under the hoop. This is a critical matter in the playing and refereeing of the game, in the determination by players and referees whether or not the defensive player is directly under the hoop, and therefore may be subject to being call for a foul in the case of contact between offensive and defensive players.

  • Patent number: 5873573
Abstract: A ring-toss type game having a target made up of a generally tubular wall on a base with an upstanding central post, the target made from a hard heavy material such as steel that will produce a bell-like sound when struck by ring formed from a hard material such as steel. The target wall and base may be a single unitary cup shaped member or may consist of a wall fastened to the base. An elastic band, such as a Bungee cord, may be wrapped around the wall to reduce impact sound intensity. A cord and bracket assembly may be secured to the target to be stretched away from the target and secured to the ground to provide a clear line behind which rings will be pitched or tossed at the target. Typically, tossing a ring over the post will earn the highest number of points, a lesser number will be earned by tossing a ring into the target between the post and inner wall and the least number of points for striking the target exterior.

  • Patent number: 5865662
Abstract: A weight-adjusted underwater toy is disclosed having a somewhat lower specific gravity than water, and having its center of gravity located below and somewhat behind the volumetric center of the toy. The toy has a streamlined shape, like a fish, a sea animal, a swimmer, or a submarine. The model will follow a long glide curve similar to an approximately upside down ballistic path when flung into the water, and will always rotate into a position with its back up and its abdomen down. When rising, the location of the center of gravity will provide an inclined forward/upward position for the model, and horizontal side wings (fins or other details) will prevent a purely vertical rising movement by providing a forwardly directed momentum during a buoyancy movement.

  • Patent number: 5865440
Abstract: An archery target constructed of compressed layers of foam. Layers of cross linked, closed cell polyethylene foam of 1/8 to 1/4 inch thickness and a density of 2 to 4 pounds are stacked and compressed between support platens positioned to maintain the compressive forces over the central portion of the target. Band retainers are secured around the target to maintain compression and retain the layers in registry to one another. A weather resistant cover can be trained around the baled target and a handle can also be mounted to the binding support platens.

  • Patent number: 5863045
Abstract: A score-keeping ring toss game comprising a target and a target switch member which transitions from an open state to a closed state when the target is rung by a ring-shaped member. A proximity switch member comprising a plurality of concentric circles around the target is provided wherein the proximity switch member produces a closed circuit if the ring-shaped member misses the target and engages the plurality of concentric circles. The target switch member and the proximity switch member are coupled to a control unit for determining if the target switch member has transitioned to the closed state or whether the proximity switch member has produced the closed circuit for producing an output signal on a first output path or a second output path. The output signal is accumulated and displayed for each player.

  • Patent number: 5863261
Abstract: A golf club head is disclosed having a club face comprised of a plurality of plates that act in concert to provide a spring-like response when the club impacts a golf ball. The plates are fluidly coupled by providing appropriate surfaces to the plates at their interface or by locating a viscous fluid between the plates. The plates are held in place by coupling them to the head body. One or more plates may be integrally formed with the body of the golf club head. Various parameters may be selected to optimize response or to customize the response for different golfing styles including the relative thickness of the plates, the presence of a viscous fluid between the plates, the type and viscosity of the viscous fluid, the material of the plates, (and hence, their coefficient of elasticity) and the type of mechanical coupling of the plates to the body of the golf club head.

  • Patent number: 5863208
Abstract: A system and method to provide dynamic reviews for individual students. In one embodiment for a student, the system selects an un-learnt line-item, and generates detailed learning materials for the un-learnt line-item. Then the system selects a learnt line-item based on one or more learnt-line-item-selection rules, and generates summarized-learning materials on the selected learnt line-item for the student to review. The summarized-learning materials include study-plans. The detailed learning materials may include questions, in addition to study-plans. For an un-learnt line-item, after presenting the generated learning materials to the student, the present invention assesses the student's understanding in the line-item. If the assessment is satisfactory, the un-learnt line-item is re-classified as a learnt line-item. In another embodiment, the present invention accesses a line-item probability value, which is used to select a line-item.
