  • Patent number: 6339711
Abstract: In a radio apparatus, the band of a loop filter of a synthesizer in a blank channel searching state is narrower than the band in a communicating state. In addition, a radio wave environment is measured. A characteristic necessary for the radio apparatus is determined corresponding to the measured radio wave environment. The power is controlled corresponding to the performance of the radio apparatus. Thus, the power consumption is decreased. In addition, the efficiency of the output power is improved. In the radio apparatus, the current consumption of a power amplifier PA is measured. A matching circuit (LNA or MIX) of the antenna is adjusted with the measured result so as to decrease an antenna loss. In the radio apparatus, a DC offset is removed from the transmitted power and the reflected wave. When the DC offset is removed using an AC coupling capacitor, the deterioration of the frequency characteristic of the receiving portion is compensated with a capacitor in a digital signal process.

  • Patent number: 6317609
Abstract: A telecommunications system and method for transmitting digital images produced by a digital camera attached to or integrated with a mobile station (MS) from the MS to a receiving terminal through the Internet. A calling mobile subscriber can select the digital image to transmit and dial the number associated with the receiving terminal on the MS. The digital image is then sent in parallel through the Internet while a telecommunications connection, such as a call setup request, is being sent through the cellular or fixed network. At the end office serving the receiving terminal, the call setup request is associated with the digital image and a call connection is established between the calling MS and the receiving terminal. When the call connection is established, the end office serving the receiving terminal sends the digital image to the receiving terminal.

  • Patent number: 6317597
Abstract: Methods and computer readable media are provided for creating a wireless dialing string. Wireless dialing strings are used in a dial-up session to establish a communications link for transferring data between computing configurations from an origination location across a wireless network to a destination location. In a preferred embodiment, queries are made regarding the origination location and the wireless service provider. In response thereto, a database is searched for phone dialing codes, such as enhanced services modem pool availability codes and wireless digital data transfer protocol codes, that correspond to the origination information. The codes are then fashioned into the dialing string. Preferably, a dial-up manager serves to provide the functions of querying about the origination location, billing information, and preferred wireless service provider; searching the database; and fashioning the dialing string.

  • Patent number: 6314290
Abstract: A mobile satellite (MSAT) system is provided for establishing a single-hop terminal-to-terminal call between two terminals. The MSAT system maintains a signaling path between each terminal and a gateway station during the terminal-to-terminal call although a call path between the mobile switching center and the originating terminal is blocked by the satellite. During single-hop call establishment, satellite channels for the terminal-to-terminal call path and for signaling are allocated. The allocated channels are assigned when a direct satellite link for the terminal-to-terminal call is established; otherwise, the call can proceed as a double-hop call using previously assigned satellite channels. A verification signal is sent on the direct satellite link which is for processing by the terminals and which contains information that causes the signal to be ignored by a gateway station.

  • Patent number: 6311046
Abstract: An input signal of varying amplitude and varying phase is converted into more than two signals of constant amplitude and controlled phase. Each of the more than two signals of constant amplitude and controlled phase is then separately amplified in separate amplifiers. The separately amplified more than two signals of constant amplitude and controlled phase are then combined to produce an output signal that is an amplification of the input signal at the desired power level. When converting the input signal into more than two signals, the phase of each of the more than two signals of constant amplitude and controlled phase is controlled to produce the output signal that is an amplification of the input signal at the desired power level. According to another aspect, a signal of varying amplitude and varying phase is generated from a plurality of constant amplitude varying phase signals, the sum of which is the signal of varying amplitude and varying phase.

  • Patent number: 6304754
Abstract: A method for improving the display of the interaction between cells in wireless environment by a computerized site layout system is presented. Each cell has a cell boundary threshold signal level and a hand-off trigger threshold signal level. After the signal strengths of the cells throughout the environment are calculated, the signal strength data is examined to determine for a primary cell and each of its neighbor cells, in turn, a handoff region where the signal strength of said primary cell is at least equal to its cell boundary threshold signal level and the signal strength of the particular neighbor cells is at least equal to its hand-off trigger threshold signal level. The position of the primary and neighbor cells and the identified handoff regions are graphically displayed. Preferably, each cell is assigned a unique display indicium and the handoff regions are displayed using a combination of the indicia for the primary and respective neighbor cell.

  • Patent number: 6292669
Abstract: A method and an equipment implementing the method in a mobile communication system in which short messages may be sent amid actual signalling, whereby one of more short message service centers providing short message services are linked to the mobile communication system. An identifier supplied by the subscriber and associated with the desired service is included in a mobile originated short message. On the basis of this identifier a database search is performed in a database connected with the mobile communication system, the database comprising identifiers associated with short message services available to subscribers and related routing information. The message is sent to the routing address obtained on the basis of the database search. A short message submitted by a subscriber may thus be routed to the desired short message service center without the subscriber having to directly attend to the routing.

  • Patent number: 6292664
Abstract: A system and method in a wireless communications environment maximizes voice quality in low capacity situations. A Mobile services Switching Centre (MSC) that is associated with a base station of a cell is capable of assigning speech calls of mobile terminals to either a full-rate (FR) or a half-rate (HR) channel. The FR channels provide better transmitted voice quality but consume twice the bandwidth (two time slots versus only one for HR channels). When occupied cell capacity is low, an MSC assigns connections to FR channels. After occupied cell capacity reaches a predetermined threshold value, the MSC assigns connections to HR channels whenever possible. Also, handover procedures can reclaim available capacity by switching a connection from a FR to a HR channel. The superior voice quality of the FR channels are therefore provided to mobile terminal users more often.

  • Patent number: 6289227
Abstract: A method and apparatus for scheduling the paging wake-up time in a wireless mobile station. The decision to wake-up a mobile station in order to decode a slotted paging message is determined probabilistically. An initial missed page rate constant, M, is loaded within the mobile station. A measurement of the particular mobile station paging rate, R, is made over a time period T. The measured paging rate R is compared to the initial missed page rate constant M. If the missed page rate M is greater than the measured paging rate R the mobile station does not respond to the next paging slot. If the missed page rate M is less than the measured paging rate R a number based on the ratio of M to R is used as an input to a uniform random number generator. The output of the uniform random number generator determines whether or not to wake-up during the next paging slot. The measured paging rate R is updated as a running average.

  • Patent number: 6285873
Abstract: A method for generating a broadcast challenge value includes the steps of applying a first updating algorithm to the most significant bits of the broadcast challenge value, and applying a second, distinct updating algorithm to the least significant bits of the broadcast challenge value. The updating algorithms can be maximal-length shift registers or other forms of pseudorandom noise generator. The sequence of successive unrepeated values can be extended for either one or both sets of bits by inserting an all-zeroes value once during the period of time before which an update value recurs. System-wide synchronization can be achieved via a global time reference.

  • Patent number: 6282408
Abstract: Apparatus and method for measuring air interference of base station is disclosed. The apparatus for measuring air interference of base station includes RF (Radio Frequency) switch setting measurement path to selectively measure each path and sector, which is outputted from the base station. A low noise amplifier (LNA) receives the signal output from the RF switch and amplifies the signal to be within an effective level to be read in a spectrum analyzer. A control computer controls the decoding unit and spectrum analyzer as a core of the air interference measurement set (AIMS). The decoding unit generates a decode-output to control the RF switch by receiving data from parallel port of the control computer, and the spectrum analyzer automatically performs interference-measurement in a remote state by receiving the output signal of the low noise amplifier (LNA) and then transmitting and receiving data with the control computer through general purpose interface bus.
