Patent number: 6112096Abstract: For informing a user of a pager terminal for receiving message information attributed with a serial message number of the serial message numbers of missing message information, the pager terminal having a missing massage indicator comprises, a message status memory (17) prepared with a message reception table having a reception confirmation flag area and a reception failure flag area for each of possible serial message numbers. A logic `1` flag is set in the reception confirmation flag area corresponding to the serial message number N of the message lastly stored. When a message having a message number M is newly received, the numbers M and N are compared. When M.noteq.N+1, logic `1` flags are set in all the reception failure flag areas corresponding to the serial message numbers from N+1 to M-1 for indicating the reception failure of these messages.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1997Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Kazuhiko Hasegawa

Patent number: 6101369Abstract: A radio pager having a frequency correcting function of the present invention includes an arithmetic section for determining, during an interval between the start and the end of a particular signal, a center amplitude based on the maximum and minimum values of the signal, producing a difference between the center amplitude and a reference voltage, and feeding back the resulting center voltage data to a quartz oscillation section or reference oscillation section. As a result, the oscillation frequency of the oscillation section is automatically corrected. This insures an accurate voltage amplitude and therefore accurate decision on a multilevel digital signal.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1998Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Satoshi Takahashi

Patent number: 6097945Abstract: Time zones are handled in a telecommunication system with personal mobility and time dependent routing, particularly in a telecommunication system such as UPT (Universal Personal Telecommunication) system. The system is arranged to calculate the time difference between a time zone which is obtained from a subscriber, particularly a time zone where a subscriber permanently or temporarily is located, and a time where the routing takes place, particularly where a node is located, and to calculate the subscriber's current time by adding the time difference to the current time where the routing takes place. The time-dependent routing may include at least one time table for at least one subscriber. The time table includes at least two time periods for each time period. At least one terminal of function is defined to which the subscriber incoming traffic is intended to be routed. Corrections for daylight saving rules may be included. Menues for handling failed call setups and menues for callback are provided.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1999Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventors: Geir Evensen, Paul Fjuk, Soren Wallinder

Patent number: 6097972Abstract: The transmitted power of a mobile telephone is established by power control bits that are transmitted in a traffic channel from a base station and that are demodulated by a rake receiver in the telephone. The rake receiver includes a plurality of demodulators that demodulate respective fingers of the traffic channel which may be caused by multipath conditions, with the power control bits from each demodulator being combined with the power control bits of the other demodulators in the rake receiver regardless of whether the demodulators are in lock with their respective fingers. The combined power control signal from a rake receiver associated with a first base station is then tested against a threshold. If the combined power is at least equal to the threshold, the combined power control signal is sent to a logic combiner. If other base stations are communicating with the mobile telephone, the combined power control signal from each of these other base stations is also sent to the logic combiner.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1997Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Keith W. Patent number: 6073021Abstract: A method for increasing the success rate for soft handoffs, particularly under rapidly fluctuating fading conditions, using traffic channels of active set base stations. In one embodiment of the present invention, increased success rate for soft handoffs is achieved using a candidate base station, in addition to the active set base stations, to transmit a handoff command message to the mobile-telephone. Specifically, the handoff command message is transmitted by the active set base stations over the traffic channels assigned to mobile-telephone for communicating with the active set base stations, and by the candidate base station over the traffic channel assigned to the mobile-telephone for communicating with a primary base station. Additionally, a pilot signal may be transmitted by the candidate base station to enable the mobile-telephone to coherently demodulate the handoff direction message transmitted by the candidate base station.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1997Date of Patent: June 6, 2000Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Sarath Kumar, Wen-Yi Kuo, Kiran M. Patent number: 6070056Abstract: A phase deviation can be prevented at the time of processing carried out when a multi-carrier signal is transmitted. A multi-carrier signal is filtered in a filter (103), and thereafter subjected to fast Fourier transform to produce symbol sequence data. The amplitude and phase of a signal obtained as the symbol sequence data are corrected. As its amplitude-phase correction circuit (211), a correction value storing portion for storing a value to cancel a change amount of the signal caused by an amplitude characteristic and a phase characteristic of the filtering in its pass band, and a multiplier for multiplying an output value of the fast Fourier transform by a value stored in the correction value storing portion are provided.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1997Date of Patent: May 30, 2000Assignee: Sony CorporationInventors: Kazuyuki Sakoda, Mitsuhiro Suzuki

Patent number: 6058313Abstract: A method is provided which reduces post-dial delay in a number portability environment. In particular, a switching office which controls call routing to portable numbers (NPA-NXXs) contains a cache for which location routing number response information may be stored. The processing office concurrently checks the cache for LRN response information corresponding to the dialed number and launches a query to a number portability database. Thus, if the LRN response information in the cache is valid then the call will be routed in the timeliest manner. However, if either the cache does not have any LRN response information or the LRN response information in the cache proves not to be valid then, the switching office will have received the LRN response information from the database more quickly based on the concurrent launching of a query. Therefore, a more timely attempt at establishing a proper connection to the dialed number will occur thereby reducing post-dial delay.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1997Date of Patent: May 2, 2000Assignee: AT&T CorpInventors: Lev Slutsman, Kamlesh T. Patent number: 6055421Abstract: A radio receiver operates primarily in a first operating mode to process received signals (410). When a carrier signal detect is triggered while in the first operating mode (415, 420), the receiver temporarily operates in a second operating mode which has receiver parameters selected to reduce carrier detect falsing when compared to the first operating mode (430). Preferably, in the second operating mode, the receiver's frequency and time response characteristics are modified to facilitate carrier squelch detection. Carrier squelch is performed if a carrier signal detect is triggered while the receiver operates in the second operating mode (440, 450, 460, 470).Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1997Date of Patent: April 25, 2000Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Rajesh H. Patent number: 6052574Abstract: The system for auxiliary monitoring of emergency access calls functions to identify the geographical location of the origination point of the emergency access call and interconnects the appropriate emergency response agency that serves this geographic location to the emergency access call. The emergency access system is programmed to divide the covered region into a plurality of cells, with each cell defining a serving emergency agency and/or serving auxiliary emergency agency. Upon receipt of an incoming emergency call from a telephone station, the switching system determines the location from which the emergency access call originated, and which cell(s) define the serving emergency agency for this location. The system directs the incoming call to the designated emergency service agency as well as any serving auxiliary emergency agency that would be involved in the emergency response to the incoming emergency call.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1998Date of Patent: April 18, 2000Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Harold R.
