Abstract: Apparatus for configuring input/output signal levels of interfacing logic circuits operating at different voltage levels comprises: a logic circuit for operating at a first voltage level; a bank of input/output gates coupled to the logic circuit for interfacing input/output signals at a second voltage level, different from the first voltage level, to the logic circuit, the bank of gates including a port for setting the operational voltage level thereof; and a control circuit coupled to the port and governed by a control signal to configure the operational voltage level of the bank of gates to render the logic circuit and the interfacing input/output signals voltage level compatible.

Abstract: Disclosed is a syphon wave generator for generating electric power from a wave-driven water body in a fast, easy, inexpensive and efficient manner such that the unit has few moving part, is very inexpensive to build and maintain and can withstand storms. The syphon wave generator comprises: a horizontal pipe with one or more pipes at each end extending down below the water surface, a turbine and generator mounted inside the horizontal pipe and a means for filling the unit with water. The waves passing under the unit cause different water levels at different pipes creating a siphon. The water siphoning across the horizontal pipe spins the turbine and generator to create electricity.

Abstract: A method for starting or stopping each of at least two separately controllable roll-sets (22, 26, 34, 56) used for processing a yarn (Y) in a stretch-break process, each roll-set comrpising at least two rolls, the method is characterized by the step of each roll-set, changing the speed of each roll from an initial condition to a steady state condition in accordance with a predetermined sequence and in coordination with a change in speed of at least one of the other rolls, such that simultaneous complete breakage of a yarn (Y) being processed in a stretch-break process is minimized.

Abstract: A system for Internet appliance data entry and navigation includes a reduced keyset remote control unit transmitting a user input keystroke sequence. An Internet appliance receives and parses the keystroke sequence, placing the parsed data into an input buffer. An Internet appliance browser accesses user interface display screens from remote storage via a communications network. The buffer contents define a window within an accessed display screen. The Internet appliance converts the composite display screen for output to a standard television receiver. A user makes option choices and navigates the user interface display screens by activating hyperlinks within the accessed display screens. A standard telephone keypad arrangement is used to create the keystroke sequence, permitting use of a standard or wireless telephone and a hand-held remote control unit for system input and control. An alternative embodiment permits voice input of text, numbers, special symbols, and shortcuts in many languages.

Abstract: A partitionable computer system and method of operating the same is disclosed. The partitionable computer system has a state machine, a processor, and a device controller. The state machine can be configured to monitor the status of a partition of the partitionable computer system. The information provided by the state machine can be used to provide security within the partitionable computing system.

Abstract: The present method and kit provide for effective and efficient patching of fiber optic cables. The kit comprises mechanical fiber optic splicers, a fiber optic patch, a splice housing, and a protective housing. The mechanical fiber optic splicers can be used to splice the fiber optic cable and the fiber optic patch. The mechanical fiber optic splicers, the fiber optic patch, and a portion of the fiber optic cable can be enclosed within the splice housing. The splice housing can then be enclosed within a protective housing.

Abstract: A method and system are provided for installing an oriented conduit section in a well-bore having a substantially non-vertical axis. In one example, the system comprises: means for inserting a conduit a the well-bore, wherein the conduit comprises a section to be oriented, means for applying, in the well-bore, a rotating force to the section to be oriented, whereby an oriented section results, and means for fixing the conduit in the well-bore. An instrumented conduit section is also provided, for orientation in a well-bore having a substantially non-vertical axis. Abstract: A camming surface, having a plurality of camming groups, is moved along, or relative to, the surface of the roadway to regulate installation of depressions. Each camming group is capable of regulating elevation of a rotary cutting tool where the rotary cutting tool may move down and into contact with the surface of the roadway and move up and out of contact with the surface of the roadway. Use of a plurality of sections may be used to cooperate to form the camming surface. Inserts are disclosed for positioning relative to the camming surface to selectively eliminate installation of a depression at a position on the roadway associated with a respective camming group. Use of such inserts allow for installation of skip pattern installations. The ability to move the inserts to any of the camming groups allow for uniform wear of the camming surface following sustained use of the installation machine.
