  • Publication number: 20200248455
Abstract: A fastener plate for use in coupling an underlayment to a roof surface is disclosed. In use, the fastener plate is arranged and configured to enable subsequently applied liquid coatings to flow through a top surface of the fastener plate and into one or more cavities so that the liquid coating seals any openings created by introduction of the fastener. In one embodiment, the fastener plate may include a top surface, a bottom surface, a fastener opening for receiving a fastener, a plurality of openings formed in the top surface, and one or more cavities positioned between the top surface and the bottom surface, the one or more cavities being in fluid communication with the plurality of openings so that the liquid coating can flow through the plurality of openings formed in the top surface and into the one or more cavities to seal any voids created by the fastener.

  • Publication number: 20200224409
Abstract: A water barrier system to protect a roof surface from environmental conditions is disclosed. In one embodiment, the water barrier system includes an underlayment layer and a liquid applied coating. In use, the underlayment is coupled to the roof surface. Thereafter, the liquid coating is applied to the underlayment to form a barrier layer. The underlayment may be manufactured from a porous material so that the liquid applied coating is at least partially absorbed by the porous underlayment. In this manner, direct application of the liquid coating to the roof surface is eliminated. In one embodiment, the underlayment may be provided with a load bearing component/layer and a coating absorbing component/layer. For flat roof applications, the load bearing component/layer may be provided with increased rigidity for dimensional and installation stability.

  • Patent number: 9923515
Abstract: A solar panel array comprises a first plurality of solar panels arranged side-by-side in a first course and a second plurality of solar panels arranged side-by-side in a second course, the second course partially overlapping the first course. Electrical energy produced by each solar panel of the array is aggregated with the electrical energy produced by the other solar panels of the array without physical electrical contacts between the solar panels. In one embodiment, contactless inductive couplers are used to couple the electrical energies of the panels together.

  • Patent number: 9428916
Abstract: A mesh ridge vent has an air permeable layer formed of randomly aligned synthetic fibers that are opened and blended, randomly aligned into a web by airflow, joined by phenolic or latex binding agents, and heat cured to produce an air-permeable varying mesh. A moisture barrier may be integrally formed above the air permeable layer and may be defined by a coating or by a layer of fibers that is sufficiently dense to inhibit penetration of water into the web. The mesh ridge vent has edge portions and a central portion and the edge portions may be more dense and thicker while the central portion may be less dense and thinner than the edge portions.

  • Patent number: 9404263
Abstract: A roofing material comprising an upper surface and a lower surface, wherein the upper surface includes reduced-particle size granules and may further include a reduced-thickness face coating. The thickness of the upper surface is related to the particle size of the granules deposed on the face coating. A smaller particle size granule than those used in traditional roofing shingles is utilized in the upper surface which may allow for a reduced-thickness face coating while not sacrificing the retention of the granules on the surface of the roofing material or desired physical characteristics. The face coating may include a reduced amount of filler material, such as mineral fillers, than face coatings of traditional roofing materials.

  • Patent number: 8994224
Abstract: A system of solar roof shingles and underlayment with wireless power transfer between the solar roof shingles and the underlayment is disclosed. Each roof shingle has a solar collector array coupled to a wireless resonator. The solar collector array establishes a voltage in response to exposure to sunlight and the wireless resonator converts the voltage to a transmittable electromagnetic signal. The signal is transmitted to resonant devices embedded in the underlayment beneath the shingles The resonant devices may be resonant capture devices that convert the received electromagnetic signal back to a usable voltage, or they may be wireless repeaters that retransmit the electromagnetic signal to remote resonant capture devices, which then convert it to a voltage. This voltage is placed on an electrical grid and made available at a remote location for use, storage, or placement on the public electrical grid.

  • Patent number: 8808076
Abstract: An impeller exhaust ridge vent is provided for covering a ridge slot formed along the ridge of a roof. The ridge vent has an elongated laterally flexible center panel with edge portions along which vents are formed. Standoffs can depend from the bottom of the center panel for supporting the center panel a predetermined distance above the roof deck so that attic air can vent through the ridge slot, beneath the center panel, and exit through the vents. A base panel can be provided to cover the roof deck and form a smooth substantially sealed air duct for passage of the air. Upstanding wind baffles are disposed outboard of and spaced from the vents. One or more tangential impellers is rotatably mounted in the pace between the vents and wind baffles and can be free spinning or driven by an electric motor. Rotation of the tangential impellers creates a cross-flow fan effect that draws air forcibly from beneath the center panel and exhausts it to ambience. The attic space is thereby actively ventilated.

  • Patent number: 8740678
Abstract: A ridge vent with powered forced air ventilation is configured to be installed along the ridge of a roof covering an elongated ridge slot on either side of the ridge. A blower is mounted in a blower opening formed at a predetermined location along the ridge vent on one side of the ridge and includes a blower housing forming an inlet within the attic and an outlet oriented to force air upwardly through the vent slot to be expelled through the ridge vent. A pair of baffles are hingedly secured to the blower housing adjacent its outlet and can be attached to a roof deck to secure the blower and help to isolate its outlet from the attic space below. An impeller is disposed in the housing and is driven by an electric motor.

  • Patent number: 8713860
Abstract: A solar insert for shingled roofs includes an insert with a generally wedge-shaped body designed to be installed beneath a shingle and a face that is exposed and extends along a lower edge of the shingle. The face preferably is angled with respect to the shingle and a solar collector in the form of a thin-film solar strip is mounted to and extends along the face. The inserts of multiple shingles are electrically coupled together to form an electrical grid for aggregating the electrical energy of the individual solar collectors and delivering it to a remote location for storage or use. In a second embodiment, a shingle has a solar collector strip mounted to its surface extending along a forward edge of the shingle, and in another, the solar collector surrounds the tabs of their shingles. The solar collectors not only generate electrical energy from the sun; they also enhance the appearance of a shingled roof by providing a look of increased thickness and texture.
