  • Publication number: 20050210277
Abstract: There are provided an information recording medium, and an information processing apparatus and method by which content usage in compliance with copyright protection is made possible in information processing devices such as a CD player and a PC. In the information recording medium, a first data storage area on which a copying prevention process is performed, and a second data storage area in which is stored an encrypted content file containing encrypted content, and encrypted key data such that key data for use in a decryption process is encrypted and which can be decrypted only in a device having a license are set. It becomes possible to play back the recorded content of a first data recording field in a playback device such as a CD player, and even in an information processing device, such as a PC, it is possible to decrypt and play back encrypted content of a second data recording field under the condition of obtaining a license.

  • Patent number: 6944297
Abstract: A data reproducing apparatus and method is provided for reproducing data that was ciphered during recording in one or more of sector forming, header appending, error correction coding, modulation, and synchronization appending operations used for processing input data to form a recording signal. Thus, deciphering requires knowledge of both the ciphering key and the aspect(s) of the recording operation in which the ciphering took place. The deciphering may also include a descrambling operation in which an initial value and/or a generating polynomial is varied in accordance with ciphering key information.

  • Publication number: 20050015343
Abstract: To provide an information recording medium and an information processing apparatus and method in which the content usage by ensuring copyright protection can be implemented both in CD players and information processing apparatuses, for example, PCs. A license providing condition for a client can be dynamically set based on the content usage status of the client. For example, for clients having a large number of content usages, the license price is decreased, or the license can be provided free. A media ID stored in, for example, a CD, and a product ID as an identifier in, for example, a title unit or an album unit are received from the client. Based on such identification data, the content usage status data can be checked. Accordingly, the licenses can be provided under the reliable management of the content usage.

  • Publication number: 20040054753
Abstract: The present invention relates to an information-processing system, an information-processing apparatus and an information-processing method. At a step S1, a PDA transmits a request for purchase of a content to a server. At steps S1, S12 and S14, the server receives the request for purchase of a content from the PDA and transmits the content to the PDA. At a step S5, the PDA transmits a request for preservation of the content to the server. At a step S16, the server generates a preservation ID based on a user ID for identifying the user of the PDA and based on a content ID for identifying the content, and issues the preservation ID to the PDA. At the next step S17, the server stores the issued preservation ID in a preservation-ID database by associating the preservation ID with the content ID. At a step S6, the PDA receives the issued preservation ID from the server and stores the preservation ID in a memory. The present invention can also be applied to an information management system.

  • Publication number: 20030126440
Abstract: The present invention relates to an information processing apparatus by which a communication channel providing a high degree of privacy is established between a PDA and a data communication server. In the information processing apparatus, first, the PDA and a memory card are connected to each other, and perform mutual authentication. Data encrypted with a temporary key shared by the PDA and the memory card as a result of the authentication is transferred from the PDA to the memory card, decrypted by the shared temporary key, and then stored in the memory card. Next, a PC and the memory card are connected to each other, and perform mutual authentication. The data encrypted with a temporary key shared by the PC and the memory card as a result of the authentication is transferred from the memory card to the PC, decrypted by the shared temporary key, and then stored in the PC. Then, the PC and the data communication server are connected to each other, and perform mutual authentication.

  • Publication number: 20030023861
Abstract: A data transmitting method, a data recording apparatus, a data record medium and a data reproducing apparatus are provided to disallow the encryption to be easily decoded and keep the secrecy of key information higher. The data transmitting apparatus includes an error correction coding process block. In the block, an input converting circuit operates to perform a logic operation with respect to the information data from an interface circuit 12 according to the key data. The converted information data is sent to an encoder 15 for generating parity data. This parity data is mixed with information data before conversion in a mixing circuit. The error correction coding block operates to send the resulting data to a modulating circuit 17 for modulating the data. The modulated data is recorded on a disk record medium.

  • Publication number: 20020196938
Abstract: An input is ciphered in at least one of a sector forming circuit 13, a scrambling circuit 14, a header appendage circuit 15, an error correction encoding circuit 16, a modulation circuit 18 and a synchronization appendage circuit 18, used for processing input data for forming a recording signal. Not only the key for ciphering itself in the circuits but also the information as to which of the circuits has been used for ciphering becomes the key for ciphering. This realizes ciphering difficult to decode by a simplified structure.
