  • Publication number: 20230239906
Abstract: In a communication system having a plurality of user equipment (UE) devices that are operating in a contention based mode for device-to-device (D2D) communication, each UE device transmits a preferred transmission indicator when a condition for preferred transmission is met at the UE device. If a UE device receives a preferred transmission indicator, the UE device delays transmission of a D2D scheduling assignment (SA) to contend for communication resources for D2D communication. The length of the delay can be based on a number of preferred transmission indicators that are received. The preferred transmission indicator is based on a buffer size in one example.

  • Publication number: 20230239913
Abstract: A base station (eNB) determines device-to-device (D2D) transmission parameters for signal transmission over a D2D communication link between a first user equipment (UE) device and a second UE device. The eNB instructs the first UE device to transmit a reference signal that is received by the second UE device. The second UE device reports D2D channel characteristic information indicative of the received reference signal. Based on the D2D channel characteristic information, the base station determines the D2D transmission parameters and provides the parameters to the first UE device.

  • Publication number: 20230208604
Abstract: A receiving user equipment (UE) device transmits a distance-based hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback message to a transmitting UE device based on sidelink signal quality when location information is unavailable. The receiving UE device is one of a group of UE devices receiving a groupcast data transmission from the transmitting UE device where the groupcast data transmission comprises a distance-based hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback configuration. When location information is unavailable to the receiving UE device, the receiving UE device transmits the distance-based HARQ feedback if the signal strength of a signal received from the transmitting UE device is above a threshold and does not send the HARQ feedback if the signal quality is below the threshold. The threshold may be received from the transmitting UE device.

  • Patent number: 11683796
Abstract: Communication equipment communicating in a licensed frequency band identifies unused unlicensed communication resources within an unlicensed frequency band. The communication equipment uses the identified unlicensed communication resources to communicate within the unlicensed frequency band. In some circumstances, the unused unlicensed communication resources are identified based on resource information received from a base station where the resource information identifies unlicensed communication resources that will be used by the base station. In other circumstances, the unused unlicensed communication resources are identified based on frequency band measurements of the unlicensed frequency band over an observation time duration longer than a sensing time duration used by unlicensed equipment using the unlicensed frequency band.

  • Patent number: 11653380
Abstract: A base station assigns a first set of device-to-device (D2D) communication resources to a first D2D group and assigns a second set of D2D communication resources to a second D2D group. The D2D communication resources of the first set are different from the D2D communication resources of the second set. The first set of D2D communication resources and the second set of D2D communication resources are subsets of reserved D2D communication resources which are a subset of defined uplink communication resources defined by a communication specification for uplink communication between the D2D UE devices and a base station where the reserved D2D communication resources not used for uplink transmission to the base station.

  • Publication number: 20230103347
Abstract: An origination device (e.g., a base station) receives relaying information from a signal forwarding device in a grant or a broadcast message. The relaying information can be information pertaining to channel conditions and/or quality (e.g., a Channel Quality Indicator) of a first communication link between the signal forwarding device and a destination device, and/or an encoding rate based on channel conditions associated with the first communication link. The origination device utilizes the relaying information to determine a first set of encoding parameters that correspond to channel conditions associated with the first communication link between the signal forwarding device and a destination device. The origination device encodes a first set of data according to the first set of encoding parameters and transmits the encoded first set of data to the signal forwarding device. The signal forwarding device transmits the encoded first set of data to the destination device.

  • Publication number: 20230040797
Abstract: The methods, devices, and systems discussed herein periodically broadcast a signal containing an indicator to a first area that is near a potential safety scenario, such as an intersection. In some examples, the broadcast signal is part of a Synchronization System Block (SSB). In other examples, the broadcast signal is a System Information Block (SIB) message. Upon entering the first area and waking from an IDLE state, a mobile wireless communication device (WCD) receives the broadcast signal. In response to receiving the broadcast signal, the WCD activates a collision-avoidance procedure. In some examples, the collision-avoidance procedure includes sensing device-to-device (D2D) resources in order to detect D2D transmissions from an approaching D2D-capable device (e.g., a vehicle). In other examples, the collision-avoidance procedure includes transmitting a periodic D2D safety message using D2D resources.

  • Publication number: 20230033208
Abstract: In response to an instruction received from a base station, a signal forwarding device applies a signal forwarding scheme selected from a plurality of signaling forwarding schemes by a scheduler. The signal forwarding scheme may be applied by the signal forwarding device to forward signals from the base station to a user equipment (UE) device and/or from the UE device to the base station. The scheduler selects the signal forwarding scheme based on channel characteristics of the channel between the signal forwarding device and the UE device and/or the channel between the signal forwarding device and the base station. Although at least some of the channel characteristics are determined by the base station, at least some of the channel characteristics can be determined by the signal forwarding device in some situations.

  • Publication number: 20230031495
Abstract: The methods, devices, and systems discussed herein involve a mobile wireless communication device (WCD) receiving a signal containing an indicator upon entering a first area that is near a potential safety scenario, such as an intersection. In response to receiving the signal, the WCD initiates a Random-Access Channel (RACH) procedure, which triggers initiation of a collision-avoidance procedure. In some examples, the collision-avoidance procedure includes abase station transmitting a safety message that indicates the presence of the mobile WCD. In other examples, the collision-avoidance procedure includes the mobile WCD transmitting a device-to-device (D2D) safety message using D2D resources. In further examples, the collision-avoidance procedure includes the mobile WCD sensing D2D resources in order to detect D2D transmissions from a D2D-capable device.

Abstract: An origination device transmits a “received data signal” to a signal forwarding device. The “received data signal” comprises a first set of data. The origination device also transmits at least one “received control signal” to the signal forwarding device and to a destination device. The at least one “received control signal” comprises a first set of control information and a second set of control information. The first and second sets of control information are both associated with the first set of data. The first set of control information contains instructions pertaining to the signal forwarding device processing the first set of data. The second set of control information contains instructions pertaining to the destination device processing the first set of data. The signal forwarding device transmits a “forwarded signal” to the destination device. The “forwarded signal” contains forwarded data, based on the first set of data.
