  • Publication number: 20130283881
Abstract: A process of producing metal blanks with different thicknesses from a metallic material includes: producing sheet metal blanks from a band material; changing the temperature of the metal blanks such that, in the blanks, a plurality of regions is produced with different temperatures; rolling the metal blanks having regions with different temperatures in a rolling tool with a roll gap setting, wherein the roll gap setting is kept constant during the operation of rolling the metal blanks, wherein, due to the regions with different temperatures in the sheet metal blanks, portions are produced with different thicknesses. The invention also relates to a suitable device for producing sheet metal blanks with different thicknesses from a metallic material.

  • Publication number: 20080211264
Abstract: A B column of a motor vehicle having a high strength and rigidity in the attachment area of door hinges and door locks and able to protect the occupants of the vehicle in the event of a side crash is provided. The B column includes a reinforcement plate, which extends over the entire height of the B column. Because the requirements for this reinforcement plate are not equally great in all areas, the reinforcement plate is a reshaped tailored rolled blank. The tailored rolled blank is produced by flexible rolling and has different thicknesses transversely to the rolling direction. It is thus especially thick in the areas on which especially high strength and rigidity requirements are placed, while it is implemented as correspondingly thin in the areas which must only fulfill low strength and rigidity requirements.

  • Patent number: 6662616
Abstract: A method and a device for flexibly rolling a metal band by guiding the metal band through a roll gap formed between a first working roll and a second working roll, and by varying the size of the roll gap in such a way that band sections with a greater band thickness and band sections with a lesser band thickness are obtained over the length of the metal band. In the device and method, the time of contact between each point on the circumference of the first working roll and the metal band is shorter in duration than the time of contact between each point on the circumference of the second working roll and the metal band such that an asymmetric band thickness profile is obtained in a region of the band sections with a lesser band thickness.

  • Patent number: 6536256
Abstract: A device for forming components from billets having a thickness profile which is essentially symmetric to the central plane of the billet, i.e., the billet contains a thickness transition on both sides, and wherein the thickness transitions on both sided of the billet are transferred to one side of the formed such that the side of the formed component is planar. The forming surface of the forming device which faces the side of the billet that has a thickness transition in the formed state of the billet has a shape is adapted to the thickness transition to be realized, and the forming surface of the forming device which faces the side of the billet that becomes planar in the formed state is planar. Due to these measures, it is possible to transfer the thickness transition that originally existed on both sides of the billet to one side of the billet in only one step.
