Patent number: 9099384Abstract: A vertical charge ordered transistor is disclosed. A thin charge ordered layer is employed as a tunnel barrier between two electrodes. A gate-induced accumulation of charge destabilizes the charge ordered state around the circumference of the device, opening up a parallel ohmic conduction channel, which leads to an exponential increase in source-drain current. VCOT devices have the potential to exhibit very large on/off ratios, low off-state currents, and sub-threshold slopes below 60 mV/dec.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2013Date of Patent: August 4, 2015Assignees: Drexel University, The Trustees of the University of PennsylvaniaInventors: Steven May, Jonathan Spanier, James Rondinelli, Mitra Taheri, Robert Charles Devlin, Andrew Marshall Rappe

Publication number: 20150204439Abstract: A variable vane assembly for a gas turbine engine having an actuating system including a rotatable face gear and a respective pinion engaged to and extending transversely from the end of each of the moveable vanes. The teeth of each pinion define land surfaces angled with respect to adjacent ones of the land surfaces of the teeth of the face gear meshed therewith. A smallest axial distance between the adjacent land surfaces of the meshed pinion and face gear teeth define a backlash of the actuating system. At least one shim has a thickness adjusting an axial distance between the pinion and the face gear to set the backlash to a predetermined value. An engine with a compressor with a variable vane assembly and a method of adjusting angular variance in an actuating system for variable vanes are also discussed.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 23, 2014Publication date: July 23, 2015Applicant: Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.Inventors: Andrew MARSHALL, Gilles DUROCHER

Patent number: 9052360Abstract: A test circuit for measuring a gate delay as a function of stress is disclosed. The test circuit includes an oscillator, a reference gate chain, a test gate chain, and a counter. The counter measures the difference in propagation delay between the test chain and the reference chain in calibrated oscillator cycles. Differences in test gate delay as a function of applied stress may be measured within the calibration accuracy of the oscillator frequency. The use of the reference gate chain allows a simpler unipolar counter.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2012Date of Patent: June 9, 2015Assignee: TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INCORPORATEDInventor: Andrew Marshall

Patent number: 8868922Abstract: In a bi-directional embodiment, an authorization transponder 114 coupled to the mobile device 128 transmits an interrogating message, which includes a UID 116 associated with the mobile device, to a nearby wireless key 100. The wireless key compares this received UID 116 with the one or more UID's 102 stored on the wireless key, and if a match is detected, sends the wireless key's UID or encrypted variant thereof to the interrogating authorization transponder 114. On receiving the UID from the wireless key 100 and determining that it matches the authorization transponder UID 116, a command is sent from authorization transponder 114 to mobile device 128 enabling some or all operations of mobile device 128.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2006Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: Andrew Marshall, Tito Gelsomini, Harvey Davis

Patent number: 8686744Abstract: Circuitry and methods for measuring capacitive mismatch with improved precision. The capacitors under measurement are connected in series in a voltage divider, with the node common to both capacitors connected to the gate of a source follower transistor. In one disclosed embodiment of the invention, a ramped voltage is applied to the drain of the source follower transistor simultaneously with the ramped voltage applied to the voltage divider; the slope of the ramped drain voltage is at the nominal slope of the voltage at the common node of the voltage divider. In another embodiment, a second transistor in saturation has its gate coupled to the source of the source follower device, and its source connected to the drain of the source follower device in series with a constant voltage drop. The drain-to-source voltage of the source follower device is thus held constant in each embodiment, improving precision of the measurement.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2010Date of Patent: April 1, 2014Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: Andrew Marshall, Md.
