  • Patent number: 7606559
Abstract: A system is provided for forwarding content. The system includes a terminal capable of sending a request to transfer content, the request being sent from a terminal over a first network such as a wireless or other high latency network, and over a second network such as a wireline or other low latency network. The system also includes a source capable of sending the content, and a destination capable of receiving the content, both over the second network independent of the first network to thereby transfer the content from the source to the destination. By transferring content independent of the first network, the system can transfer content without the latency that follows from transferring content over such a wireless or other high latency network. Digital rights management of content transferred from a source to a destination is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20090222438
Abstract: Performing location-aware search involves intercepting a network request targeted for an Internet-based search engine. The network request includes a location-dependent query containing a location term, and the location term cannot be used by the search engine to positively determine a target location. A location descriptor that can be used by the search engine to positively determine a target location is determined via a location database. The location database may include a location sensor such as GPS. The network request is modified to replace the location term with the location descriptor, and the modified network request is sent to the search engine.

  • Publication number: 20080177858
Abstract: Providing dynamic bookmarks via a user device involves configuring a network access program user interface with dynamic bookmarks that facilitate user access of network content via the network access program. Data that describes the arrangement of the dynamic bookmarks is received via a network. The arrangement of the dynamic bookmarks is based on the inputs of a plurality of third party service providers. The dynamic bookmarks are updated via the network access program user interface in response to receiving the data.

  • Patent number: 7308269
Abstract: The user of a mobile terminal capable of receiving low-power, short-range transmissions enters keywords indicative of messages the user wishes to peruse. When the mobile terminal receives a short-range transmission having a message, keywords associated with the message are compared with the user-entered keywords; if any match, a banner portion of the message is displayed on the mobile terminal and the mobile terminal issues a sensible alert. The user may request to view the message body associated with the banner portion. The user may request to take actions regarding the message body, such as storing the message body in the mobile terminal or calling a telephone number contained in the message body.

  • Patent number: 7295862
Abstract: The user of a mobile terminal capable of receiving broadcast transmissions, such as Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) transmissions, enters keywords indicative of messages the user wishes to peruse. When the mobile terminal receives a broadcast transmission having a message, keywords associated with the message are compared with the user-entered keywords; if any match, at least a portion of the message is displayed on the mobile terminal. The displayed portion may be a “crawl” which appears at the bottom of the display screen. The user may request to view the remaining portions, if any, of the message, or to download data linked to the message, where the downloaded data may be for viewing or for another purpose.

  • Patent number: 7266343
Abstract: A method of and a system for providing an identification of a piece of information to a person tuned to a broadcasting station which is broadcasting the piece of information. The person sends a first message to a centralized information identification location having a data base storing data for identifying pieces of information. The first message describes the piece of information and preferably also identifies a receiving location to which identification of the piece of information is to be sent. In response to the first message, the data base is interrogated to identify the piece of information, and a second message is sent to the identified receiving location, including identification of the piece of information. If desired, the first message can include an order for a copy of the musical piece and payment information, and the centralized music identification location can forward an order for the copy to an order shipping center.

  • Publication number: 20070130610
Abstract: Provided are apparatuses and methods in a digital broadcast transmission system for receiving, processing and rendering transmitted content. A digital receiver capable of receiving and rendering both DVB-H and DVB-T signals may include a coupling means for connecting to another terminal for receiving program data or parameters. The digital receiver may reconfigure one or more components in order to handle the differing signal types. Such a receiver system allows a user to move seamlessly from a mobile device to a stationary device without significant effort and time. The receiver may further use transmission streams of varying priority to enhance and otherwise modify the displayed content according to a user's selection. Users with small display screens or poor eyesight may benefit from such enhancements features.

  • Publication number: 20060277577
Abstract: A mobile terminal for performing operations with respect to broadcast content includes a controller capable of operating a client application. The client application can perform operations including operating in a recording mode. In the recording mode, the client application can record content for a selected channel, and store the recorded channel in a database. In response to changing channels from the selected channel to another channel, the client application can initiate a recording timeout for the selected channel. The client application can reset the recording timeout for the selected channel for each subsequent instance of changing channels back to the selected channel. If the recording timeout expires before being reset for a subsequent instance of changing channels back to the selected channel, however, the client application can cease recording content for the selected channel.

  • Patent number: 7117020
Abstract: For a text message received by a mobile terminal, some or all of the message is converted to voice-based content, depending upon the user's preference or upon the capability of the wireless device's display. When the display of the mobile terminal is too small to accommodate a large text-based message, a software module converts the text-based content to voice-based content. The voice-based content is then output to a speaker in the wireless device. For received messages of more than one type of content, only the portions of the message that are within the capabilities of the receiver are outputted, or converted to another type of content if possible.

  • Patent number: 7057591
Abstract: A user terminal, such as an eBook, with a bistable display wherein the terminal detects when a predetermined period of user inactivity with respect to loaded content has elapsed and, in response thereto, replaces the last displayed page of content with an advertisement. In one embodiment, advertisements are received from an advertisement server and stored locally in the user terminal at the time that the content is downloaded from a content server. In an alternate embodiment, the user terminal receives an advertisement from the advertisement server only after user inactivity with respect to previously downloaded content has been detected.
