  • Publication number: 20050059426
Abstract: For a text message received by a mobile terminal, some or all of the message is converted to voice-based content, depending upon the user's preference or upon the capability of the wireless device's display. When the display of the mobile terminal is too small to accommodate a large text-based message, a software module converts the text-based content to voice-based content. The voice-based content is then output to a speaker in the wireless device. For received messages of more than one type of content, only the portions of the message that are within the capabilities of the receiver are outputted, or converted to another type of content if possible.

  • Patent number: 6839684
Abstract: A host-sponsored data transmission billing system and method is provided to permit reduced costs to a mobile user for internet access through an internet gateway. An operator billing system is provided (either in the internet gateway itself or coupled to the internet gateway) to generate billing data for payment by the mobile user for connection requests by the mobile user through the internet gateway to private sites on the internet. However, to reduce the costs to the mobile user to encourage access to host-sponsored commercial sites, the operator billing system bills data for payment by host-sponsors for connection requests by the mobile user to the host-sponsored sites. A General Packet Radio System (GPRS) can be utilized in this arrangement as the internet gateway.

  • Publication number: 20040237109
Abstract: The user of a mobile terminal capable of receiving broadcast transmissions, such as Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) transmissions, enters keywords indicative of messages the user wishes to peruse. When the mobile terminal receives a broadcast transmission having a message, keywords associated with the message are compared with the user-entered keywords; if any match, at least a portion of the message is displayed on the mobile terminal. The displayed portion may be a “crawl” which appears at the bottom of the display screen. The user may request to view the remaining portions, if any, of the message, or to download data linked to the message, where the downloaded data may be for viewing or for another purpose.

  • Publication number: 20040219882
Abstract: The user of a mobile terminal capable of receiving low-power, short-range transmissions enters keywords indicative of messages the user wishes to peruse. When the mobile terminal receives a short-range transmission having a message, keywords associated with the message are compared with the user-entered keywords; if any match, a banner portion of the message is displayed on the mobile terminal and the mobile terminal issues a sensible alert. The user may request to view the message body associated with the banner portion. The user may request to take actions regarding the message body, such as storing the message body in the mobile terminal or calling a telephone number contained in the message body.

  • Patent number: 6801793
Abstract: A method for receiving a message and outputting the portion of the message that is within the capabilities of the receiver of a wireless device. For a received text message, some or all of the message is converted to voice-based content, depending upon the user's preference or upon the capability of the wireless device's display. When the display of the wireless device is too small to accommodate a large text-based message, a software module converts the text-based content to voice-based content. The voice-based content is then output to a speaker in the wireless device. This alleviates the need for the user to manipulate the wireless device when the entire text-based message is not viewable at one time on the display of the wireless device. For received messages of more than one type of content, only the portions of the message that are within the capabilities of the receiver are outputted, or converted to another type of content if possible.

  • Patent number: 6778834
Abstract: The user of a mobile terminal enters keywords indicative of categories of messages he wishes to peruse. When the mobile terminal receives a message, keywords associated with the message are compared with the user-entered keywords; if any match, a banner portion of the message is displayed on the mobile terminal and the mobile terminal issues a sensible alert. The user may request to view the message body associated with the banner portion. The user may request to take actions regarding the message body, such as storing the message body in the mobile terminal or calling a telephone number contained in the message body.

  • Publication number: 20040078274
Abstract: A system and a method of providing on-line subscription services from a subscription server to a user of a mobile terminal through the Internet. The subscription server receives from the mobile terminal user-specific information relating to the user's mobile terminal capabilities, the user's preferences of products, and the user's financial information. The subscription server sends to the mobile terminal at least locally or remotely retrieved information related to a product based on the user-specific information. The subscription server receives from the mobile terminal a request indicating whether the user wishes to either cancel or purchase the product. The subscription server cancels the product when the user indicates so, and downloads the product to the mobile terminal when the user desires to purchase the product.

  • Publication number: 20030087650
Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining information about an object through interaction between a mobile station (MS) and a computer network such as the Internet, and communicating the information to the MS. A digital camera obtains an image of an object, such as a geographic region proximate the MS, which is then transmitted through the mobile communications system to the computer network. A converter server such as an Optical Character Reader (OCR) server interfaced with the global computer network converts the digital image to a text format which is then compared, along with a general location identifier of the MS to geographic data stored in a location database connected to the global computer network. Based on a comparison of the converted text data and the general location identifier of the MS to the geographic data stored in the location server, a precise location of the MS is determined and transmitted to the MS.

  • Patent number: 5417223
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of fabricating intra-uterine contraceptives, the said contraceptives comprising an elongated component (2), a copper wire spiral (3) placed around the elongated component (2) and a crosswise component (1) attached essentially by its middle point to one end of the elongated component (2). The elongated component (2) essentially of equal diameter throughout its length and the crosswise component (1) lateral to the elongated component (2) and attached to it by its midpoint are formed into a single contiguous piece. A separate copper wire spiral (3) is placed over the elongated component (2) via its unobstructed end, whereafter a sleeve (4) is then attached to support the copper wire spiral (3).
