  • Patent number: 5314032
Abstract: A movable joint bent sub for attachment to a well conduit for use in deviated drilling of a well. An elongated housing is provided having one end for attachment to a well conduit, a mandrel is telescopically movable in the bore of the housing, and a movable body is pivotally connected to the mandrel and is longitudinally movable in the housing. Coacting cam surfaces on the body in the housing pivot the body to a desired deviation when the mandrel is telescopically moved in the bore. A releasable lock may be provided between the mandrel and the housing.

  • Patent number: 4983803
Abstract: A subsurface safety valve is made by the steps of coating a hard seat in the inside surface of a circular tubular member, honing the inside of the tubular member, drilling a hole in a circular plane perpendicular to the axis of the tubular member to form hinge holes in the future cut out valve closure members, and then cutting hinges out of circular sectors of the tubular member. Preferably the cutting is performed using a wire electrode of a wire cutting electric discharge machine, although cutting may be performed by a mill or a chemical machine.

  • Patent number: 4791991
Abstract: The combination of a subsurface well safety valve which is controlled through a hydraulic fluid line extending from the well surface to the safety valve of a hydraulic strainer including a chamber positioned above the actuating hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly of the safety valve. A fluid passageway adapted to be connected to receive hydraulic control fluid from the well surface extends into the chamber and an outlet fluid passageway adapted to be connected to the hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly of the safety valve extends into the chamber. The lower end of the inlet fluid passageway is positioned between the upper end of the outlet fluid passageway for protecting the piston and cylinder assembly from debris. A filter may be provided in the chamber between the lower end of the inlet fluid passageway and the upper end of the outlet fluid passageway.

  • Patent number: 4771831
Abstract: A tubing retrievable, hydrostatically operated liquid sleeve valve to control and shut off well production to the well surface of a producing well. The sleeve valve includes a port for supplying production fluid through the well annulus for pumping. When the pump stops, the liquid level in the annulus rises and creates a hydrostatic head against a sleeve piston which is biased to the open position by a gas charge. When the liquid reaches a selected level, the valve will move to a closed position. When the pump is reactivated, the liquid level is lowered and the valve is moved to the open position. Low friction seals minimize friction and a dynamic seal is set after the valve is shifted to the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4718488
Abstract: A landing nipple having a landing sub is adapted to be connected to a production well conduit. When temporarily abandoning the well, a pump-out plug is seated in the landing sub and includes a bi-directional valve which allows flow through the plug when running and after seating seals in both directions. When desired, the pump-out plug and landing sub may be expelled by pressure to provide a full bore production of the well.

  • Patent number: 4703805
Abstract: A subsurface well safety valve having an equalizing line between a point below the safety valve and a point above the safety valve and an equalizing valve in the line. A sleeve valve is releasably locked in a first position opening the equalizing line and in a second position closing the equalizing line for protecting the equalizing valve or closing the equalizing line in the event the equalizing valve develops a leak.

  • Patent number: 4694908
Abstract: Injecting fluid by inserting a coil tubing having a fluid outlet and a valve above the outlet into a well conduit, biasing the valve to a closed position with a sufficient force to at least balance the hydrostatic force of injection fluid in the tubing, inserting a fluid to be injected in the conduit, and pressurizing the fluid in the coil tubing for opening the valve and injecting the fluid through the fluid outlet. The fluid is ejected in a circumferential direction from the tubing and the tubing may be moved relative to the well conduit while injecting. The upward flow of well fluids in the well conduit may be used to disperse the injected fluid around the interior of the well conduit. The interior of the well conduit may be wiped after injecting the fluid for more evenly spreading the injected fluid. An ejector is connected to the bottom of the coil tubing which initially overbalances the hydrostatic force of the fluid in the coil tubing and opens by injection pressure.

  • Patent number: 4688593
Abstract: A reverse flow check check valve for use in a pumping well to prevent backflow when the pump is shut down in which the valve has pump through capabilities for killing the well. The valve includes a housing having a bore with a valve closure element in the bore. A flow tube telescopically moves in the housing upwardly for opening and downwardly for actuating the closing of the member. The flow tube is biased downwardly, preferably by weight, for closing the valve and is responsive to a pressure drop for holding the valve element open. The housing has a port initially closed, but may be opened for pumping through the valve.

  • Patent number: 4605070
Abstract: A first well tubing with a tubing retrievable safety valve having a bore of substantially the same size as the bore of the first well tubing. A second well tubing is connected to the first well tubing above the first well tubing and extends to the well surface and the second well tubing has a bore larger than the bore of the first well tubing. A landing nipple in the second well tubing has substantially the same size bore as the bore of the second well tubing. A wireline retrievable safety valve positioned in the interior of the landing nipple has a bore only slightly smaller than the bore of the first well tubing and thereby does not unduly restrict the flow of fluid through the well tubing.

  • Patent number: 4600055
Abstract: A tubular well tool receiving conduit for receiving a well tool having anchoring teeth in which a plurality of circular extending grooves on the inside on the conduit are provided for coacting with the anchoring teeth for supporting the well tool. Preferably the grooves match the tooth profile of the anchoring teeth and the grooves are concentric. For receiving a well packer, a second plurality of circularly extending grooves on the inside of the conduit coact with the expandible seal for providing multiple seal points with the packer seal. A no-go shoulder on the conduit positions the well tool in the conduit. In another embodiment, the circular grooves extend longitudinally a greater distance to engage the well tool anchoring means and seal and extend continuously along the inside diameter.
