  • Patent number: 4531581
Abstract: A well packer for use in a well bore having initially retracted packing seal and slip means which are actuated by hydraulic pistons, the improvement in various seals which allow the packer to be used in high temperature environments. The pistons are ring shaped with cup-shaped sealing surfaces extending towards a hydraulic supply port for sealing by hydraulic fluid. Spacers are provided between the pistons for preventing damage to the piston seals. First and second abutments are provided adjacent one end of the seal packer with a metal seal ring between the abutments and coacting wedge surfaces are provided on the metal seal and each of the abutments for sealing against both abutments and wedging the seal inward for sealing. Metal static seals are provided in the packer which are compressed by threads for providing high temperature seals.

  • Patent number: 4444403
Abstract: A seal on a well tool for sealing off the space between two well members consisting of an encapsulated polyelastic thermal and/or corrosive seal. The seal includes an outer protective layer which physically protects the seal as it is moved into place and set and which is preferably of a plastic. A second pliable layer is encapsulated in the first outer layer and is impervious to well fluids. Preferably the second layer is a corrugated shaped metal layer. A third layer is encapsulated within the second layer and is an elastic material such as an elastomer.

  • Patent number: 4362214
Abstract: A tubing retrievable differential pressure operated well safety valve which closes at a predetermined rate of flow which may be changed from the well surface. A housing is adapted to be threadedly connected to well tubing. A spring forces a flow tube and choke bean downwardly to normally hold the valve open, but when the producing rate increases to a preset value the bean and flow tube moves upwardly overcoming the spring allowing the valve to close. A releasable connection is provided between the choke bean and the flow tube for connecting the choke bean to and releasing the choke bean from the flow tube by longitudinal movement of the bean relative to the flow tube. The connection may include a collet interconnecting the beam and the flow tube in which the collet includes an enlargement for engaging a recess in the bean. The flow tube includes a backup shoulder for locking the enlargement in the recess and also includes an opening for allowing the collet to become released from the bean.

  • Patent number: 4141413
Abstract: A well packer for connection in a well tubing in a well in which the body has an internal diameter as great as the tubing in which it is to be inserted and has a tensile strength greater than the tubing. Packing surrounds the body and a longitudinally movable expander is positioned about the body and below the packing and is movable towards the packing for expanding the packing outwardly. Slips are positioned about the body and adjacent the lower end of the expander means and move outwardly upon movement of the slips towards the expander. An annular piston positioned about the body is longitudinally movable and on upward movement expands the slips and the packing. An annular spring is positioned above the piston and yieldably urges the piston in a downward direction whereby the packer may be set, released from a set position, and reset in the well.
