The inductors (16, 18) function at different frequencies and generate different temperatures. The first inductor (16) heats in particular the base section (17), which is not to be hardened, to a high temperature below the austenitizing temperature range. The second inductor (18) heats the teeth (15) to a still higher second temperature within the austenitizing temperature range. Defined, hardened teeth of consistently high quality result at quenching.

    Abstract: A method and a kit are disclosed for evaluating thrombogenic microparticles (MP). The principle is based on the evaluation of thrombin generation in platelet poor plasma (PPP) and in plasma made microparticle free (MPFP) by centrifugation or filtration. The difference in thrombin generation between PPP and MPFP correlates with number and activity of thrombogenic microparticles. Evaluating thrombin generation of different standardized amounts of MPs in standard MPFP allows to calculate the number of thrombogenic MP from the difference in thrombin generation between PPP and MPFP.

The results of the assay may be used to determine the ability of the patient to generate thrombin or Factor Xa as blood clotting factor based upon the circulating microparticles.

    Abstract: Here is described a novel gene, the interferon inducible gene 12 (ISG12, IFI27), that interacts with nuclear receptors and enhances nuclear export of such transcription factors. As a consequence, the transcriptional activities of these nuclear receptors are decreased. As examples effects on NR4A1 and PPARa and PPARg are given. When ISG12 is absent as in ISG12 deficient mice transcriptional activities of these nuclear receptors are not impaired and their protective effects are fully appreciated. Consistently, ISG12 deficient mice are resistant to restenosis upon carotid artery ligation and to endotoxin induced death. Human genetics studies indicate the importance of ISG12 where the inventors could show a strong association between an intronic ISG12 SNP and the presence of hypercholesterolemia, diabetes type 2 and stroke. ISG12 is therefore a target for novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of vascular diseases.
