  • Patent number: 8711710
Abstract: Systems and methods may be provided for adaptive communications with utility meters based on atmospheric conditions. The systems and methods may include obtaining weather information associated with a location of a utility meter; determining, based upon the weather information, whether the utility meter location is associated with weather that affects communications performance; and modifying an acceptable communications error rate associated with the utility meter or the communications interface of the utility meter from a first value to a second value upon determining that the utility meter location is associated with weather that affects communications performance. One or more of the foregoing operations may be performed by a utility meter or a utility server computer associated with the utility meter.

  • Patent number: 8687039
Abstract: Techniques for diminishing an appearance of a participant's double chin during video conferencing. A participant's image is captured with an input device and processed so as to diminish the appearance of a double chin between the participant's chin and neck. The processed image with a diminished double chin appearance is outputted to both the participant's video conferencing graphical user interface and to the graphical user interface of a remote participant that the participant is communicating with in the video conferencing session. The diminished double chin appearance may be dynamically modified in real time during the video conference.

  • Publication number: 20130269594
Abstract: A bead design allows the bead to be removably attached to a rail, allowing the bead to slide along the rail without coming off. The rail can be part of a bracket system to hang the rail in various desired locations. The beads can be made in various shapes and sizes, or with various textual indicators, to provide a user with a memory aid. A user can, for example, have a bead for each medicine dose they are required to take. A user can slide the bead to one side when the medicine is taken. Each bead can include an indicator, for example, 6 am, 2 pm, 10 pm that indicates a medicine to be taken 3 times a day. The beads can be used for other reminders and can be designed accordingly. A software application can be designed to mimic the bead and rail system.

  • Patent number: 8537029
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus for facilitating utility meter communication are provided. One or more communications to be transmitted by a utility meter may be identified by the utility meter. A cost associated with the transmission of the one or more communications may be determined by the utility meter, and a determination may be made as to whether the cost satisfies one or more cost parameters. If it is determined that the cost satisfies the one or more cost parameters, the one or more communications may be transmitted by the utility meter. If, however, it is determined that the cost does not satisfy the one or more cost parameters, the one or more communications may be stored by the utility meter for subsequent transmission.
