  • Publication number: 20130194992
Abstract: Backoff snooze wake power consumption within single user, multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. If a communication (e.g., transmission) attempt fails (e.g., by a wireless station (STA), smart meter station (SMSTA), etc.), then a backoff snooze countdown may be performed before a subsequent communication is attempted. Also, if communication activity is detected on the communication medium, then such a backoff snooze countdown may be performed before monitoring the communication medium or a subsequent communication attempt is made. Such a backoff snooze countdown may be based on a codeword value (e.g., such as provided within a beacon received from an access point (AP)), and different respective backoff snooze countdowns may be made based on different respective codeword values. Such backoff snooze countdowns are performed outside of a restricted access window (RAW) in which only devices of a particular class (e.g., low-power, Z, etc.) have access to the communication medium.

  • Publication number: 20130191706
Abstract: A modem architecture that supports the application of joint source channel decoding (JSCD). The modem architecture includes two channel decoders, one of which is modified to provide improved signal quality. The modem architecture further includes transparent network layers that enable the passage of data from one layer to another layer. For example, the modem architecture enables the passage soft bits, when available, from a physical layer to an application layer. The soft bits may be utilized for JSCD, packet loss concealment, or other applications. The modem architecture enables encryption and decryption of data to incorporate extrinsic information in operating JSCD.

  • Publication number: 20130191120
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for performing packet loss concealment are disclosed. In response to determining that an encoded frame representing a segment of a signal is bad, an encoded parameter within the encoded frame is decoded based on bit information (such as soft bit information) associated with the encoded parameter to obtain a decoded parameter. Whether the decoded parameter violates a parameter constraint is determined. If a parameter constraint violation is detected, an estimate of the decoded parameter is generated. Either the decoded parameter or estimate of the decoded parameter is passed to a decoder for use in decoding the encoded frame.

  • Publication number: 20130188541
Abstract: Target wake time (TWT) within single user, multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. Within communication systems including different respective devices therein (e.g., wireless stations (STAs), smart meter stations (SMSTAs), etc.), coordination is made with respect to those devices awakening from less than full power state (e.g., from sleep, reduce functionality, power saving state, etc.). A TWT information element (IE) may be included within a frame or a signal corresponding to or based on that frame that is transmitted from one device to other device(s). One or more respective future targeted times (e.g., which may be based on a timing synchronization function (TSF) reference time) at which device(s) may awaken from less than full power state may be included within the TWT IE. Over time, different respective TWT IEs may be provided from various devices, such that respective targeted awake times may be modified dynamically for any given device.

  • Publication number: 20130189940
Abstract: There is provided a method for use in a wireless communication to avoid detection of a false modulated signal in a paged device. In one embodiment, a modulated signal is received by the paged device. Then, the modulated signal is identified by the paged device as a preliminary false modulated signal. Thereafter, the gain of at least one paged device amplifier and/or a matching threshold of the paged device is reduced by the paged device to decrease a sensitivity of the paged device to avoid detection of a future false modulated signal. In one embodiment, the wireless communication is a Bluetooth wireless communication and the paged device is a Bluetooth enabled device. An exemplary system for implementing one embodiment of the disclosed method is described.

  • Publication number: 20130188758
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses are provided for performing joint source channel decoding in a manner that exploits parameter domain correlation. Redundancy in speech coding and packet field parameters is exploited to generate conditional probabilities that a decoder utilizes to perform joint source channel decoding. The conditional probabilities are based upon correlations of parameters of a current frame with parameters of the same or other frames or historical parameter data. Parameter domain correlation provides significant channel decoding improvement over prior bit domain solutions. Also provided are methods, systems, and apparatuses for utilizing received statistics of monitored data bits from which conditional probabilities are generated to perform channel decoding. The techniques described may be implemented at the decoder side and thus do not interfere with transmission standards.

  • Publication number: 20130188610
Abstract: One or multiple bit restricted access window (RAW) end point determination within for single user, multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communications. A RAW is defined in which only devices of the particular class (e.g., low power class, Z class, smart meter station (SMSTA) class, etc.) are allowed access to the communication medium. Indication of the end of such a RAW may be included within one or more bits set within a signal field (SIG) field of a framer packet generated by a given device within the system and transmitted to one or more other devices. After completion of the RAW, other respective devices of at least one other type of class may be provided access to the communication medium. The manner of access to the communication media outside of the RAW may be varied (e.g., scheduled, based on carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA), etc.).

  • Publication number: 20130191707
Abstract: A turbo decoder is configured to perform iterative decoding of data bits of a data packet received via a source signal to converge on a “soft” decision representation for each data bit of the data packet. The turbo decoder includes both an interleaved decoder and a non-interleaved decoder that work collaboratively to refine and improve the “soft” decision of each of the originally-received data bits. The interleaved decoder and the non-interleaved decoder are injected with extrinsic information based on at least a-priori information of the source signal. The turbo decoder avoids positive feedback of the a-priori information regarding the source signal from one decoder to the other by subtracting out extrinsic information based on the a-priori information that is injected into a decoder from the “soft” decision(s) determined by the decoder.
