  • Publication number: 20160032700
Abstract: Methods for treating subterranean wells in which the producing formation is a carbonate comprise preparing a treatment fluid comprising either: (a) an aqueous solution of a multivalent-cation reacting polymer; (b) a solution comprising a fatty acid and an ethanolamine; (c) an aqueous acidic solution of one or more compounds whose calcium salts are insoluble; or (d) an aqueous solution comprising urea or alkane derivatives thereof or both and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). The treatment fluid is placed in the well such that the solution contacts the carbonate formation at a pressure higher than or equal to the fracturing pressure. The treatment fluid is allowed to react with the carbonate formation, thereby depositing a film onto the formation surface or parts of the formation surface. Then an acid solution is placed in the well such that the acid contacts the carbonate formation at a pressure higher than or equal to the fracturing pressure.

  • Publication number: 20150315886
Abstract: A method is given for reducing the flow of a treatment fluid in a well, for example for zonal isolation or for stimulation fluid diversion. The method includes preparing a High Solids Content Fluid (a pumpable slurry containing a carrier fluid and a packed volume fraction of at least 50 per cent solids having a multi-model size distribution), injecting the high solids content fluid into the well, placing the high solids content fluid at the location at which fluid flow is to be decreased, and either reducing the volume or increasing the viscosity of the carrier fluid. Optionally, at least a portion of the solids in the High Solids Content Fluid is subsequently removable to restore fluid flow.

The method involves generating a plurality of quality indicators from a plurality of logs, and combining the plurality of quality indicators to form a composite quality indicator. The plurality of stress blocks may then be merged using diversion criterion. The composite quality indicator may be combined with the merged stress blocks to form a combined stress and composite quality indicator, the combined stress and composite quality indicator comprising a plurality of blocks with boundaries therebetween. The method may further comprise defining stages along the combined stress and composite quality indicator based on the diverter-assisted stage classifications; and selectively positioning perforations in select stages based on the diverter-assisted stage classifications thereon.

  • Patent number: 9121272
Abstract: A method of fracturing multiple zones within a wellbore formed in a subterranean formation is carried out by forming flow-through passages in two or more zones within the wellbore that are spaced apart from each other along the length of a portion of the wellbore. The flow-through passages within each zone have different characteristics provided by orienting the flow-through passages in directions in each of the two or more zones relative to a selected direction to provide differences in fracture initiation pressures within each of the two or more zones. A fracturing fluid is introduced into the wellbore in a fracturing treatment. The fracturing fluid in the fracturing treatment is provided at a pressure that is above the fracture initiation pressure of one of the two or more zones to facilitate fracturing of said one of two or more zones while remaining below the fracture initiation pressure of any other non-fractured zones of the two or more zones.

  • Publication number: 20150114647
Abstract: Aqueous compositions contain hydrochloric acid at a concentration between 8 wt % and 28 wt % inclusive. The amino acid; hydrochloric acid mole ratio may be between 0.2 and 1.5. Sufficient water is present to dissolve the hydrochloric acid and the amino acid. Such compositions have utility as retarders for acid compositions employed in the stimulation of subterranean formations. Slowing the reaction between the acid and formation helps maximize formation permeability and productivity.
