  • Patent number: 8944171
Abstract: A technique includes deploying a string that includes a seat assembly in a well; and running a shifting tool in a passageway of the string. The shifting tool shifts the seat assembly to cause the seat assembly to transition between a first state in which the seat assembly forms a seat that is adapted to allow an untethered object communicated in the passageway of the string to pass through the seat assembly to a second state in which the seat assembly is adapted to catch the object to form a fluid barrier in the string. The fluid barrier is used to divert fluid in the tubing string to perform, for example, a stimulation operation.

Abstract: A system and method for performing stimulation operations at a wellsite having a subterranean formation with of a reservoir therein is provided. The method involves generating a plurality of quality indicators from a plurality of logs, and combining the plurality of quality indicators to form a composite quality indicator. The plurality of stress blocks may then be merged using diversion criterion. The composite quality indicator may be combined with the merged stress blocks to form a combined stress and composite quality indicator, the combined stress and composite quality indicator comprising a plurality of blocks with boundaries therebetween. The method may further comprise defining stages along the combined stress and composite quality indicator based on the diverter-assisted stage classifications; and selectively positioning perforations in select stages based on the diverter-assisted stage classifications thereon.

  • Publication number: 20140182841
Abstract: Methods of performing a stimulation operation at a wellsite are disclosed. The wellsite is positioned about a subterranean formation having a wellbore therethrough and zones thereabout. The method involves establishing at least one objective for stimulating production of reservoir fluid from the subterranean formation and into the wellbore. The stimulating involves placing a stimulating fluid along the zones of the wellbore. The objective is based on wellsite data. The method also involves identifying at least one constraint for the stimulating, determining target distributions of the stimulation fluid based on the objective(s) and the constraint(s), and selecting operational parameters for the stimulating based on the constraint(s) and the target distributions. The method may also involve stimulating the subterranean formation using the target distributions and the operational parameters, monitoring the wellsite during the stimulating, and adjusting the stimulating based on the monitoring.

  • Publication number: 20130032350
Abstract: A method of fracturing multiple zones within a wellbore formed in a subterranean formation is carried out by forming flow-through passages in two or more zones within the wellbore that are spaced apart from each other along the length of a portion of the wellbore. The flow-through passages within each zone have different characteristics provided by orienting the flow-through passages in directions in each of the two or more zones relative to a selected direction to provide differences in fracture initiation pressures within each of the two or more zones. A fracturing fluid is introduced into the wellbore in a fracturing treatment. The fracturing fluid in the fracturing treatment is provided at a pressure that is above the fracture initiation pressure of one of the two or more zones to facilitate fracturing of said one of two or more zones while remaining below the fracture initiation pressure of any other non-fractured zones of the two or more zones.
