  • Publication number: 20180348783
Abstract: Embodiments provide methods and apparatus for asynchronously classifying images provided by a robot. In a reconnaissance/exploratory or first cleaning pass, unidentified objects are avoided. Images of the object are uploaded over the Internet to a remote object detection and classification system, and the location is indicated by the cleaning robot. When the remote system subsequently returns an object identification or classification, the object can be indicated as something to be avoided, or the cleaning robot can return to the location and clean over the object if it is determined not to be a hazard. In one embodiment, the object is passed over at reduced speed or with a cleaning brush turned off.

  • Patent number: 10052814
Abstract: An apparatus, method, system for 3-D printing that includes a nozzle and a movable platform, wherein the platform provides for a constant distance configuration of the platform relative to the extrusion emitter or nozzle thereby precluding the need to level the printer. The apparatus includes motion vectors associated with each direction of motion of the movable platform. A central point of origin is further provided for establishing the directions of movement of the movable cantilevered platform. The direction of motion of the motion vectors each pass through the central point of origin thereby providing a movable platform that stays a constant distance relative to the nozzle when moved in any planar direction within each layer.

  • Patent number: 9986408
Abstract: A generator for mobile apps provides an easy to use template for creating multiple apps that all share a coherent navigation system and infrastructure in order that all of the apps function as a network that can be accessed by installing just one of the apps. Multiple users of the generator create their own apps and offer the apps to users of mobile computerized devices. When a user of a mobile device downloads just one of the apps, they are provided with access to the entire network of apps, without having to download and install each of the apps separately. This is particularly useful for location-based apps, content apps, and commerce apps.

  • Patent number: 9709258
Abstract: A lighting system including modules containing LEDs or other electroluminescent devices and loosely constrained magnetic structures at least partially contained within cavities in the module substrate that are connected to fixtures under magnetic force. The loosely constrained magnetic structures accommodate mechanical variations in the system and provide a method to connect modules mechanically, electrically and thermally to different fixtures or positions in fixtures without tools. The relatively short distance separating magnetic structures provides high connection forces with the use of relatively small magnets. Magnets and electrical contacts are not located directly between the LED subassembly and the fixture, which provides higher thermal conductivity pathways to remove heat from the LEDs. Biasing members may be used to increase thermal contact. Magnetic structures may, but are not required, to conduct electricity.

  • Patent number: 9658305
Abstract: A magnetic resonance system includes a magnetic resonance scanner (8) and a magnetic resonance scan controller (24). A plurality of markers (40, 140) are attached to the subject to monitor motion of a portion of a subject within an examination region. A motion control unit receives motion data from the markers indicative of the motion and controls the magnetic scan controller to adjust scan parameters to compensate for the motion. In one embodiment, the marker (40) includes a substance (44) which resonates at a characteristic frequency in response to radio excitations by the magnetic resonance scanner. A controller (52) switches an inductive circuit (48, 50) disposed adjacent the substance between a tuned state and a detuned state.

  • Patent number: 9583871
Abstract: Disclosed are interposer electrical connector embodiments including magnetic components used to facilitate interconnection of peripheral devices to standard input/output, or “I/O”, connectors (such as USB connectors) of devices such as mobile communications products (e.g. smart phones, tablets, and personal computers). The interposer connector embodiments disclosed include those in which a plurality of discrete permanent magnets are arranged with magnetic poles aligned in the same orientation perpendicular to and on one side of the electrical interface. Other embodiments include a plurality of bar permanent magnets located on opposite sides of the interface with all poles of the same type directed at the interface, but each one opposing a ferromagnetic element. These arrangements provide self-aligning capabilities useful for electrical connections that have restrictions on visibility or connection approach geometries.

  • Patent number: 9578453
Abstract: A method of transmitting a destination along with the user's current location to a central viewing site allowing the user set or change their travel plan while they are on their trip and minimize bandwidth use on expensive or slow networks. A byproduct of this method is the transmission device can record the detailed path traveled by the user while transmitting enough user locations to give the viewer at the central viewing site a good indication of where the user has been. The detailed route traveled by the user is uploaded to the central viewing site when the transmission device is connected to a faster or less expensive network.

  • Publication number: 20160345792
Abstract: An apparatus draws or leads hair and other potential entanglement debris away from the hub of a brush assembly in a vacuum as the brush rotates during vacuuming, thus avoiding or reducing entanglement and attendant problems, and obviating or reducing the need for manual removal of the entanglement. The apparatus has a profile which draws hair and other entanglement debris away from a hub of the brush assembly, or prevents it from reaching the hub, thus enabling the brush/brush assembly to continue to rotate freely. In one implementation, the apparatus attaches to a vacuum brush in an autonomous robotic vacuum.

  • Publication number: 20160297149
Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for 3D scanning and printing that includes a 3D printer device with a rotatable platform that can be controlled by an associated 3D image scanning device. The scanning device can be a smart phone or the like and can generate commands to move the rotatable platform of the printer in association with scanning operation. The smart phone can be detachably coupled to the 3D printer and perform the scan through an aligned aperture. The touch screen of the phone can serve as a control and status interface for the scanning operation. The resulting scan can be stored in a cloud based service where 3D processing can be further applied. The processed 3D printer file can be accessed by other devices connected to the cloud service. An object can thereby be scanned at one 3D printer location and sent to another 3D printer location via the cloud connection or a peer-to-peer network.

  • Patent number: 9464373
Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing a shifted angle fabric and the product produced thereby. The apparatus includes a supply of fabric and a differential tenter frame. The differential tenter frame includes a frame, a pair of opposed, constant path rails and a differential drive. The differential tenter frame is located downstream from the supply of fabric for receiving the opposing edges of the fabric and advancing the opposing edges at different speeds to shift the weft angle of the fabric as the fabric travels the length of the differential tenter frame. A high velocity, low heat drying range adjacent to the differential tenter frame simultaneously dries the fabric as the fabric travels the length of the differential tenter frame. A take-up roll downstream from the differential tenter frame then takes up the dried fabric.

  • Patent number: 9467950
Abstract: A system is implemented on a wireless network for adjusting a forward link power control parameter based on forward link feedback. A wireless unit is in communication with several base stations during soft handoff, and provides feedback relating to forward link quality, e.g., forward link pilot signal strength or traffic channel frame error rate. The feedback is compared to a comparison or reference point (such as target frame error rate, or a maximum pilot signal strength in the active set) chosen for gauging the quality or nature of the feedback for power control purposes. Based on this comparison, a power control parameter of one or more of the base stations may be adjusted upwards or downward. The power control parameter may be a forward link reference transmit power level “Pref” used to control base station power transmission levels in the presence of power control bit errors.
