  • Patent number: 6212835
Abstract: A surround molding assembly for a doorway or window of a structure such as a residential home or a commercial building. A mantle molding member is provided and fixedly secured over a top portion of the doorway without the need for external fastening elements. An installation support member is arranged within the molding member to support the outer surface of the molding member. An internal corner member is positioned adjacent each end of the mantle molding member and each directs water running onto the mantle molding member away from the doorway. Another trim assembly, including a base having a decorative portion and a ring are used to conceal a base flange. The trim assembly may be used in conjunction with a mantle assembly to provide a decorative molding that directs water away from a door or window.

  • Patent number: 6196915
Abstract: A vent apparatus for cooperating with duct work associated with an exhaust fan to enable air to be exhausted from an interior room of a dwelling to the exterior environment. The vent apparatus includes a base member and a cover member releasably securable to the base member. The base member includes an attaching portion having a plurality of locking portions, while the cover member includes a plurality of flexible latching arm members which releasably engage the locking portions when the cover member is placed over the attaching portion. The attaching portion includes an enlarged opening which enables air exhausted from an interior room to be directed out between the base and cover members to the exterior atmosphere. The apparatus is particularly well-adapted to be used with vinyl or aluminum siding and is relatively inexpensive to construct, light-weight and easy to install. In an alternative embodiment, the apparatus includes a screen adapted to be secured to the base member.

  • Patent number: 6122875
Abstract: A component shutter assembly and method of forming same. The assembly comprises a one-piece molded plastic, integrally formed shutter panel. The shutter panel may be molded in a small plurality of standard lengths and then one or both ends thereof cut to shorten the shutter panel to a specific, desired length once it is determined what-specific length of shutter is needed for a particular application. An independent, integrally formed end panel may then be secured to one or both ends of the cut shutter panel and ultrasonically welded thereto to form a finished component shutter assembly having a particular desired length and the appearance of a one-piece, integrally formed shutter. Embodiments directed to raised panel and louvered shutters are disclosed, as is a removable center panel section which may be used in connection with the louvered shutter panels if it is desired to provide a mid-panel section which is offset from the mid-point of the overall length of the shutter panel.

  • Patent number: 5918431
Abstract: A split-block recess mounting apparatus having a two-piece base assembly and a one-piece cover member. The two pieces of the base assembly include structure for allowing interlocking of the two pieces together before the pieces are secured to an exterior surface of a building by nails or threaded screws. Each of the two pieces includes a central wall portion having a cutout which, when the two pieces are secured together, forms a continuous opening for permitting passage of a conduit, cable or other elongated member therethrough. The cover member is securable without any external fastening elements to upstanding inner wall portions of the two pieces of the base assembly to form a means for providing a decorative, finished looking appearance to an area on an exterior surface of a building surrounding a conduit or other member projecting through the exterior surface. In preferred embodiments the upstanding inner wall portions include inter-engaging portions and the cover member includes engaging areas.

  • Patent number: 5850717
Abstract: A molding assembly having a hanger member fixedly securable to an inner or outer wall of a building and a decorative molding insert member releasably engageable with the hanger member. The molding insert member is supported at a lower edge portion by a lower J-channel of the hanger member. An upper L-shaped portion of the insert member is supported by a depending lip portion of the hanger member which forms a second channel such that no external fastening elements are required to secure the molding insert member to the hanger member. The insert member can be quickly and easily releasably engaged within the J-channel and the second channel without the need for special tools. In an alternative preferred embodiment the insert member includes a lip portion which is adapted to slidably engage an under surface of an adjacently positioned insert member to provide an even more continuous appearance for adjacently positioned insert members.

  • Patent number: 5662129
Abstract: An eyebrow template system which enables the user to symmetrically or asymmetrically shape eyebrows to yield aesthetically pleasing shape and size. The system includes a pair of templates having openings in the desired shape of the simulated eyebrow. A template holder receives each of the pair of templates through a pair of slots, each slot receiving one of the templates. The template holder also is formed with a pair of apertures generally larger than the openings of the pair of templates to enable a user to paint the simulated eyebrows. A fastener then attaches the apparatus for applying simulated eyebrows to the user.

  • Patent number: 5634998
Abstract: A shutter apparatus and method of assembling same. The apparatus comprises a pair of elongated, outer support members and a plurality of center component sections which slidably engage channel portions of each of the outer support members. One or more spacer panels are included as well as one or more end members. The shutter apparatus is assembled by ultrasonically welding portions of the outer support members to side portions of each of the center components and the spacer panel, and to securing portions of the end members. By ultrasonically welding the various components of the shutter apparatus together rather than assembling same though the conventional use of staples and other like external fastening elements, the cost of assembly is reduced and the ability to re-use scrap component parts is made significantly easier and less costly.
