  • Patent number: 6293511
Abstract: A collapsible stand of the type used to display sheet music for a musician is provided. The stand has a music support and a hinge attached to the music support for connecting the music support to a base having a telescopic post and legs releasably attached to the post. The music support includes rectangular first and second platens which can be moved about the axis of the hinge between an open position in which they are co-planar to support music in a closed position to define a cavity for containing the base after it has been disassembled.

  • Patent number: 6251274
Abstract: The invention provides a faucet attachment for treating water issuing from a faucet of the type having a threaded outlet for receiving an aerator. The attachment has a valve assembly including a generally cylindrical inner structure having a faucet attachment for threadably engaging the thread on the faucet to seal the faucet attachment to the faucet, and a valve element below the faucet attachment. An outer structure contains the inner structure and includes a first outlet below the valve element, and a second outlet extending orthogonally with respect to said main axis. A housing receives water from the second outlet and a bottom exit is provided on the housing for dispensing treated water. The housing is movable angularly between a first position in which water leaves through the bottom exit. A cartridge is also provided for use in the attachment.

  • Patent number: 6185755
Abstract: Apparatus for flushing a drain pipe with an accessible open end has a valve assembly with a hollow body connectable to a source of liquid under pressure for the supply of liquid under pressure to the interior of the hollow body, the hollow body having an open end positionable in communication with an open end of a drain pipe. A valve member is mounted for sliding movement in the valve body between a closed position in which the valve member prevents flow of liquid under pressure from a source thereof through the hollow body to the open end thereof, and an open position in which the valve member permits flow of liquid from the source thereof through the hollow body to the open end thereof.

  • Patent number: 6076904
Abstract: A dispensing cabinet has a rear panel, left and right transverse side panels that define a front access opening for the cabinet and a bottom access opening for the cabinet. At least one door is provided to selectively close the front access opening but the bottom access opening remains open. A longitudinally extending rail is mounted on the rear panel and, in a preferred embodiment, extends horizontally to slidably support at least one dispenser in an operative position which is adjacent to the bottom access opening. The dispenser has a bottom opening for dispensing selected articles and these are accessible for use through the bottom access opening. Normally, the door covering the front access opening will be shut and the dispensers are hidden from view. The dispensers are removable from the rail so that selected dispensers may be used according to the nature of the dispensed articles which are required.

  • Patent number: 5960545
Abstract: A utility knife with a rotary blade magazine also has a safety catch carried by the blade transport mechanism. The safety catch has a manually engageable actuator moveable relative to the transport mechanism between operative and non-operative positions to prevent or permit respectively sliding movement of the transport mechanism in the housing. The knife further has an end cap removably and rotatably secured in the housing, and a rotatable and removable ratchet member adjacent a rear end of the magazine, the ratchet member being connected to the magazine whereby rotation of the ratchet member effects rotation of the magazine and having ratchet teeth engageable with ratchet recesses in the housing to enable the ratchet member to be clicked from one position to another. The end cap is connected to the ratchet member whereby rotation of the cap causes rotation of the ratchet member and subsequent rotation of the magazine.

  • Patent number: 5816186
Abstract: A whistle is provided which will create two frequencies when blown to produce a beat. The whistle has a mouthpiece defining an inlet opening and an inlet passageway extending axially from the inlet opening to a main body which has two similar chambers extending generally axially. Air from the passageway engages two splitter edges associated one with each of the chambers. A lanyard receiver extends axially from the main body remote from the mouthpiece and defines a transverse cavity connected to one of the axial chambers. The whistle is made from first and second parts having mating peripheral surfaces where a joint is made. The arrangement of the whistle is such that two resonant frequencies are created each having a different audible frequency to create a beat. This is achieved in a simple, light and compact structure which is simple to assemble resulting in a relatively inexpensive whistle having good sound characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5778868
Abstract: According to the invention a firing mechanism is provided for use in semi-automatic guns of the type which use compressed gas to fire projectiles from a gun barrel. The mechanism has an inlet valve to receive the gas and an automatic outlet valve connected pneumatically to the inlet valve. A compound valve element is biased to move longitudinally from a first position where it is ready for firing to a second position. When the mechanism is actuated the valve element moves to the second position and gas flows from the inlet valve into a gas chamber in the outlet valve. When the gas reaches a selected pressure the valve element is driven back towards the first position before the gas is free to fire a projectile. This ensures that sufficient force is available to recock the gun and that the gas pressure available to drive the projectile is generally constant thereby controlling the muzzle velocity of the projectile.

  • Patent number: 5727320
Abstract: A utility knife has a blade magazine removably mounted in a manually holdable housing and rotatable about an axis parallel to a longitudinal axis of the housing. The blade magazine has a series of radially and longitudinally extending circumferentially spaced blade-receiving slots for separately receiving thin blades having a cutting edge at at least one end thereof, each slot having an open front end to enable a blade therein to be removed from the magazine by forward movement through the front end of the slot. The housing also carries a slidable transport mechanism having a manually engageable actuator projecting from the housing and slidable in a longitudinal direction between front and rear positions, the transport mechanism also having a blade-engaging arm within the housing.

  • Patent number: 5692719
Abstract: The invention provides a stand for sheet music which includes a music support having a platen for carrying the music, a telescopic post for adjusting the height of the platen, and a base supporting the post and having collapsible legs. The post and music support are coupled to one another such that the support can be tilted relative to the post so that the music can be displayed at various heights and at various angles to the vertical. The music support is collapsible for movement between a deployed position and a stored position to minimize the size of the music support for transporting the stand.

  • Patent number: 5489129
Abstract: A door lock has a body portion securable to a door jamb so as to project therefrom into a room, and a locking portion pivotally mounted on the body portion for angular movement relative thereto about a vertical axis between a locking position preventing opening of a door and an unlocking position permitting opening of the door. One of the portions has a projection engageable in a recess in the other portion to retain the locking portion in the locking position. The locking portion is capable of a limited amount of transverse movement relative to the body portion in a horizontal direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of opening movement of the door to enable the projection to be engaged in and disengaged from the recess.
