  • Publication number: 20160095041
Abstract: A system and computer program product to externalize mobile device state migration (i.e., checkpointing) without being dependent upon any particular Edge Application (EdgeApp) proxy server or cellular network base station. In this manner, the Edge Application (EdgeApp) proxy server does not have to be aware of a migration process, yet will enable state information to be provided to other EdgeApp proxy/server nodes at the edge of the network (cell tower).

  • Patent number: 9282020
Abstract: A method (and corresponding computer readable storage medium) of selective monitor deployment under budget constraints, wherein the mechanism includes iterating through each layer of an overlay network multiple times and wherein monitor deployment in a lower layer results in recommending adjustments of monitor deployment in an upper layer so as to reduce the overall deployment cost. Also, a method (and corresponding computer readable storage medium) of selective monitor deployment under budget constraints, wherein a deployment budget is a residual budget after deployment at higher layers of an overlay network.

  • Publication number: 20150180986
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for generating a composite service. A request to generate the composite service is received that identifies a geospatial region of interest for the composite service. One or more types of components needed to generate the composite service are determined and, for each component of a plurality of components of the one or more types of components, a corresponding spatial coverage characteristic is determined. A subset of components, from the plurality of components, is selected based on the spatial coverage characteristics of the plurality of components and the geospatial region of interest. The composite service is then generated based on the selected subset of components from the plurality of components.

  • Patent number: 8913552
Abstract: Techniques for annotating data packets with time and/or location information in wireless networks are provided. In one aspect, a method for processing information streams produced by end-computing devices that are transmitted over a wireless network having at least one network element is provided. The method includes the following steps. Data packets which originate from the end-computing devices and are received by the network element are inspected for spatiotemporal metadata. Spatiotemporal metadata is inserted into the data packets and the data packets are transmitted if the step of inspecting the data packets reveals that the data packets are missing spatiotemporal metadata. Otherwise the data packets are transmitted if the step of inspecting the data packets reveals that spatiotemporal metadata is already present in the data packets.

  • Publication number: 20140081596
Abstract: Quality of information (QoI) assessment in dynamic sensor networks that incudes evaluating, by a computer, a first value reflective of available reports from sensors that are dynamically associated with the computer. A second value reflective of reports expected to have been available for evaluation about the observed phenomena is estimated. A QoI of the available reports is assessed. The assessing is based on the first value reflective of the available reports and the second value reflective of reports expected to have been available for evaluation. A third value, based on the assessing is output.

  • Patent number: 8675475
Abstract: Techniques for managing a wireless network when disruptive events occur are provided. In one aspect, a method for managing a heterogeneous wireless network having at least two classes of nodes is provided. The method includes the following steps. One or more network signaling activities are observed. If the network signaling activities exhibit a behavior that is associated with a power failure affecting at least one of the classes of nodes, network resources for transmission and processing of network signaling associated with one or more other of the classes of nodes are adjusted to accommodate the behavior.

  • Patent number: 8676194
Abstract: Techniques are provided for providing automated configuration of computing devices. More particularly, principles of the invention may use anticipated context to precondition a device whose operational mode is alterable via computer controllable operations. Anticipated context may be affected by any number of parameters including, but not limited to, current location, time of day, destination end-point, e.g., phone number to be called, past history, subscription rate plans, power requirements of device, application demands with respect to quality-of-service (QoS), security, calendar information, and so on. Further, principles of the invention may use locally derived knowledge about the intended use of a device and dynamically enable it in a desirable mode of operation using locally reachable configuration parameters stored in advance based on the anticipated context for the operation of the device.

  • Patent number: 8660022
Abstract: A system and method for adaptive remote decision making includes steps of: receiving from an application layer a target range for a level of reporting quality for processed data; setting data collection parameters to meet the target range; collecting the data from a plurality of remote data collecting devices deployed in the distributed computing system, a portion of said data being compromised during the collecting process; processing the collected data to produce the processed data; evaluating the processed data based on observable metrics of current collected data and reported data losses; forecasting an expected reporting quality while continuing to collect the data; comparing the expected reporting quality with the target range; and reporting the processed data when the expected reporting quality falls within the target range for the level of reporting quality.
