  • Patent number: 8340080
Abstract: A system for scheduling packets to be transmitted is provided. The system includes a soft delay bound calculator module and a frame determination module. The soft delay bound calculator module calculates a soft delay bound for a non-real-time packet based on a packet size of the non-real-time packet and a minimum reserved traffic rate of a channel. The frame determination module determines whether a real-time packet must be transmitted at a current frame according to a delay bound, a transmission time, and a possible retransmission time thereof, and whether a non-real-time packet must be transmitted at a current frame according to a soft delay bound, a transmission time, and a possible retransmission time thereof. Thus, it is possible to improve the performance of the system while keeping the QoS thereof in a mixed service environment.

  • Publication number: 20100235530
Abstract: A control method and architecture for controlling transmission of streaming audio/video data are disclosed. The method uses a report transmission rate on a transmitter to reduce the playback latency on a receiver. The report transmission rate is determined according to an actual transmission rate and the residual data amount of the previous period of a transmitter buffer. The actual transmission rate is the minimum of an available transmission rate and a required transmission rate, which depends on the residual data amount and the report transmission rate. Therefore, the report transmission rate is adjusted according to the accumulation of residual data of transmitter buffer, which improves the playback latency.

  • Patent number: 7796558
Abstract: The Inter-System handover is one of the key features in the third generation cellular systems. The compressed mode, with variable transmission gaps and power levels, is standardized to support the inter-frequency system handover. To minimize the use of system resources while maintaining the border-cell handover quality, a capacity-based compressed mode control method of the present invention is proposed. Considering the tradeoff between the capacity and the communication quality, the control method can adaptively manage the compressed mode operation based on the potential impacts on the capacity and the effectiveness of the compressed mode measurement. The present invention will improve the effectiveness and performance of the compressed mode operation.

  • Patent number: 7596089
Abstract: In the method, an average user throughout over all active users is computed, and each user's user perceived throughput is compared against the computed average throughout. Based on the comparison, the scheduling of the plurality of users is prioritized. In an embodiment, a priority adjustment factor is applied to each user to prioritize the scheduling of users to receive a data transmission. The priority adjustment factor is determined based in part on an update function. The update function is proportional to a calculated difference between each user's user perceived throughput and the average user throughput. Based on the sign of the update function, the priority adjustment factor is either incremented or decremented, and hence, prioritization of users is ordered. The output of the scheduler is user identifying information that informs the base station to transmit data in a current time slot to the identified user determined as the highest priority user by the scheduling method.

  • Publication number: 20090161660
