  • Patent number: 9642105
Abstract: An access point (e.g., a femto cell) that is connected in an active call with an access terminal may cooperate with that access terminal or another access terminal to derive timing information from one or more neighboring access points (e.g., macro access points). In addition, an access point may cooperate with an idle access terminal to derive timing information from one or more neighboring access points. For example, an access terminal may determine the difference between pilot transmission timing or frame transmission timing of a femto cell and a macro cell, and report this timing difference to the femto cell. Based on this timing difference, the femto cell may adjust the timing and/or frequency of its transmissions so that these transmissions are synchronized in time and/or frequency as per network operation requirements.

  • Publication number: 20170094680
Abstract: Techniques for channel configuration on a shared communication medium are disclosed. An access point may select a set of resource elements to carry an uplink control channel and transmit a configuration message including one or more configuration parameters associated with the selected set of resource elements to one or more access terminals. The access point may then receive uplink control signaling from the one or more access terminals via the selected set of resource elements. An access terminal may receive a configuration message including one or more configuration parameters for an uplink control channel from an access point and determine a set of resource elements configured to carry the uplink control channel based on the configuration message. The access terminal may then transmit uplink control signaling to the access point via the determined set of resource elements.

  • Publication number: 20170064729
Abstract: Techniques for managing access to a shared communication medium are disclosed. Scheduling grants may be sent to different access terminals for different sets of resources for uplink transmission on the communication medium. A series of re-contention gaps may be scheduled for access terminal contention within or between the different sets of resources. Uplink and downlink transmission on the communication medium may be silenced during each of the series of re-contention gaps. Moreover, an access terminal may receive a scheduling grant that allocates a set of resources to the access terminal for uplink transmission on a communication medium and contend for access to the communication medium based on the scheduling grant. The access terminal may then selectively transmit uplink traffic over the allocated set of resources based on the contending.

Abstract: The present disclosure presents a method and an apparatus for planning interference measurement resources (IMRs). For example, the example method may include assigning a transmission group identifier to a cell in a wireless network, mapping the transmission group identifier assigned to the cell to a corresponding transmission pattern of a combination of zero power (ZP) and non-ZP (NZP) channel state information-reference signals (CSI-RSs) transmitted from the cell and neighbors of the cell, and receiving, at the cell, a CSI report from a user equipment (UE) in communication with the cell, wherein the CSI report is received from the UE based at least on an interference measured by an IMR at the UE corresponding to the transmission pattern. As such, IMR planning may be achieved.

  • Publication number: 20160337047
Abstract: The disclosure provides techniques for reducing interference caused by a first device to a second device receiving a satellite-based positioning signal. A device such as a user equipment (UE) or base station (eNB) determines a threshold transmission power for a transmission frequency of the device. The device also determines a signal strength of the satellite-based positioning system signal at the device. The device then controls a transmission property of the device based on the signal strength of the satellite-based positioning system signal when a transmission power of the device at the transmission frequency satisfies the threshold. The device may also determine that reception of the satellite-based positioning system signal by the second device is likely to be affected by a transmission from the device at a transmission power that satisfies the threshold and control the transmission property when reception of the satellite-based positioning system signal is likely to be affected.

  • Patent number: 9497714
Abstract: A power calibration scheme adjusts power levels of network of femtocells based on macro signals seen at different points in and around a coverage area and based on the mutual positions of the femtocells (e.g., based on femtocell signals seen at these points). The network entity balances data throughput with power consumption for the network entity by selecting a hardware allocation, based at least in part on the channel conditions, the hardware constraints, and the power consumption requirements. In some implementations, the network entity balances data throughput with power consumption for the network entity by selecting an operation mode, based at least in part on the channel conditions, the hardware constraints, and the power consumption requirements.

  • Publication number: 20160277942
Abstract: The disclosure provides for an evolved node B (eNB) to provide channel state information resources for wireless communications. The eNB may determine a downlink transmission status for a first user equipment (UE) connected to the eNB. The eNB may adjust a scheduled non-zero power channel state reference signal (NZP CSI-RS) transmission from the eNB based on the downlink transmission status. A resource for the scheduled NZP CSI-RS transmission may coincide or be coordinated with, an interference measurement resource of a second UE connected to a second eNB. Adjusting the reference signal transmission may include scaling a transmission power for the reference signal transmission or precoding the NZP CSI-RS based on an expected precoding for downlink user data transmission for the first UE. The eNB may also ignore channel state information reports from the first UE when the eNB has no downlink data for the first UE.

  • Patent number: 9370019
Abstract: A base station in a cellular wireless communications system uses one or more control algorithms to control a transmission pattern of a 1×RTT or DO discovery beacon. The transmission pattern enables access terminals using any one of multiple wake-up periods and wake-up offsets to discover all macrocell frequencies in a finite amount of time. In addition, for base stations allocating a single transmit chain to both 1×RTT and DO beacons, the transmission pattern enables a definite maximum discovery time for both 1×RTT and DO beacons for all access terminals entering the base station coverage.

  • Patent number: 9276713
Abstract: Aspects of the methods and apparatus relate to exploiting the spectrum of a high power base station cell to provide higher capacity in a wireless communication system. Generally, a small cell with multi-carrier support may detect an absence of high power base station cell coverage or absence of high power base station cell users and may harness the high power base station cell carrier spectrum to provide higher data download rates and/or serve more mobility users. Specifically, aspects of the methods and apparatus include transmitting a first signal on a first carrier from a first access point and determining a current ability of a second access point on a second carrier. Thereafter, aspects of the methods and apparatus include transmitting a second signal on the second carrier from the first access point according to the determined current ability of the second access point.
