  • Patent number: 10788865
Abstract: A portable information handling system rotationally couples housing portions with a dual axis hinge and communicates signals between the housing portions through a signal conduit inserted over the axles of the dual axis hinge. Signal contact elements coupled to opposing housing portions interface wirelines to contact fingers that insert in the signal conduit. Conductive surfaces in the signal conduit transmit signals across the dual axis hinge at varying rotational orientations by maintaining an electrical interface with opposing contact fingers.

  • Publication number: 20200264675
Abstract: A retention mechanism of a dual-body computing system, including a bracket coupled to a first body of the computing system, the bracket translates along a first direction, wherein a cable assembly is attached the bracket; and springs coupled to the bracket to facilitate translating of the bracket along the first direction, wherein, as the bracket progresses from a first state to a second state based on a positioning of each body of the dual-body computing system, the first and the second springs exert an increasing force on the bracket to maintain a level of tension on the cable assembly; wherein, as the bracket progresses from the second state to the first state based on the positioning of each body of the dual-body computing system, the first and the second springs exert a decreasing force on the bracket to retract the cable within one of the bodies of the computing system.

  • Patent number: 9857834
Abstract: A portable information handling system has lid and main portions rotationally coupled to each other with a set of hinges having motion managed by rack and pinion gears. The rack translates motion between pinions by moving outward from the housing portions during rotation of the housing portions. A flexible cover over the rack stretches in response to movement of the rack to contain the hinges within the portable information handling system structure.

  • Patent number: 9430000
Abstract: An information handling system converts from a closed position to a tablet position by rotating a lid with a display 360 degrees about a hinge having synchronized and continuous motion. The hinge has first and second axles held in a spaced and substantially parallel orientation by a support. A flexible compressive member translates motion of each axle to the other to provide fluid movement of the lid relative to the housing. For instance, ball bearings disposed in guide formed in the support translate rotational motion between a first and second axles.

  • Patent number: 9261918
Abstract: Low profile portable information handling systems rotationally couple a lid and chassis portion with a dual axis hinge that couples at one axis with an extension and countersink engagement to enhance system strength. For example, a conical boss in a lid support frame extends into a countersink formed in a hinge axis and includes threads to accept a screw inserted from the hinge axis into the conical boss. The conical boss inner diameter extends the space available for placement of threads to engage a screw to provide enhanced coupling strength between the hinge axis and lid support frame.
