Publication number: 20230065894Abstract: Periodic placement of directional dynamic bonding units along a flexible polymer backbone enables the formation of large supramolecular structures during strain. These structures, which form due to the alignment of stretched backbone chains, lock the stretched chains in their elongated state due to the formation of the directional dynamic bonds. Application of an appropriate stimulus (i.e., heat or light) weakens the dynamic bonds and enables the elongated chains to retract, performing measurable work and enabling the use of these structures as polymer actuators. Importantly, the high strength of the dynamic bonds enables a large amount of entropic energy to be stored in the elongated chains, enabling the polymer to achieve a large actuation force during recovery.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2022Publication date: March 2, 2023Applicant: The Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior UniversityInventors: Zhenan BAO, Chris COOPER, Shayla NIKZAD

Patent number: 10304238Abstract: This disclosure relates to visualizing geographic positions in a three-dimensional virtual environment. A processor receives position data indicative of a geographic position of an object and generates a first image of the virtual environment which represents a view from an initial observation position in the virtual environment in an initial direction based on an initial target position in the virtual environment. The processor then determines an updated target position that is closer to the virtual position of the object than the initial target position and determining an updated observation position that is closer to a desired observation position than the initial observation position. The processor then generates a second image of the virtual environment which represents a view from the updated observation position in the virtual environment in an updated direction based on the updated target position in the virtual environment.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2014Date of Patent: May 28, 2019Assignee: NATIONAL ICT AUSTRALIA LIMITEDInventors: Chris Cooper, Bill Simpson-Young

Patent number: 10113252Abstract: A system and method for controlling and improving the consistency of yarn texture in a yarn system. The system and method are configured to monitor, improve and/or control the operating parameters of the yarn system. A plurality of sensors sense the operating conditions and send the sensed conditions to a processor. The processor and/or a user monitoring the system can make adjustments to the operating parameters in a parameter is outside of a predetermined tolerance.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2015Date of Patent: October 30, 2018Assignee: COLUMBIA INSURANCE COMPANYInventors: Eric Beard Boetsch, Kevin Cowart, Mark Spangler, Larry Sims, Brent Brown, Nathan Smith, Chris Cooper

Patent number: 10011455Abstract: An assembly and method for automated cutting of undesired stretched yarn in a yarn system. Stretched yarn can hang away from the yarn system differently than desired yarn. A cutter head is positioned a predetermined distance relative to yarn traveling through the yarn system so that the stretched yarn is cut by the cutter head and the desired yarn passes the cutter head without being cut. A plurality of cutter heads can be used to cut stretched yarn hanging away from the yarn system in different locations.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2017Date of Patent: July 3, 2018Assignee: COLUMBIA INSURANCE COMPANYInventors: Chris Cooper, Larry B. Sims, Kevin Lamar Cowart

Patent number: 9951445Abstract: A system and method for automated control and improvement of the consistency of yarn texture in a yarn system. The system and method are configured to monitor, improve and/or control the operating conditions of the yarn system. A plurality of sensors sense the operating conditions and send the sensed conditions to a processor. The processor monitoring the system can cause adjustments to the operating conditions to be made if a condition is outside of a predetermined tolerance.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2014Date of Patent: April 24, 2018Assignee: COLUMBIA INSURANCE COMPANYInventors: Eric Beard Boetsch, Kevin Cowart, Mark Spangler, Larry Sims, Brent Brown, Nathan Smith, Chris Cooper

Patent number: 9848712Abstract: A bedding system uses machine vision to makes adjustments for comfort and/or support. In one aspect, a pressure mapping engine measures a two-dimensional pressure image of a sleeper on the bedding system while the sleeper is sleeping on the bedding system. A machine vision process analyzes the pressure image. A comfort and support engine adjusts a comfort and/or support of the bedding system based on the machine vision analysis.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2013Date of Patent: December 26, 2017Assignee: Xsensor Technology CorporationInventors: Ian Main, Timothy Carl Gorjanc, Robert Miller, Chris Cooper

Publication number: 20170209755Abstract: putter-type golf club head that, when oriented in a reference position, includes a striking wall extending in the heel to toe direction and defines a substantially planar striking face for hitting a golf ball. A central elongate member is in communication with, and extends rearward from, the striking wall. An upper surface of the central elongate member includes a plurality of separate alignment elements. At least one of the plurality of alignment elements has an edge that extends substantially parallel to the striking face. The length of the parallel edge is substantially equivalent to the diameter of a golf ball.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2017Publication date: July 27, 2017Applicant: DUNLOP SPORTS CO. LTD.Inventors: Nick TRAHAN, Thomas CARLSON, Chris COOPER, Adam SHELDON
