  • Patent number: 7340887
Abstract: A particle filter is monitored with a sequence of steps. A pressure loss at the particle filter is measured. The volumetric flow of exhaust gas is acquired and a filter load value is calculated from the pressure loss and the volumetric flow of exhaust gas. The filter load value is recorded as a function of a drive parameter and the filter load value is differentiated with respect to the drive parameter. The differentiation of the filter load allows a particle filter breakdown to be deduced when the differentiation is less than or equal to zero.

  • Publication number: 20080011273
Abstract: In an adaptation method of an internal combustion engine for optimized combustion, the actually supplied cylinder-specific air masses are determined by determining the change in speed of the internal combustion engine within a thrust phase and by assigning these changes in speed to the cylinder-specific compression phases 20. This enables the fuel quantity to be injected to be more precisely adjusted to the cylinder-specific air mass available.

  • Patent number: 7096111
Abstract: With a method for converting a fuel quantity (MF) into a torque (TQ) in an internal combustion engine, the efficiency (H) of the internal combustion engine is determined at the current operating point prior to the conversion as the ratio of actual torque (TQ) and actual fuel quantity (MF), and the required torque (MF) is determined from the efficiency (H) and the fuel quantity (MF).

  • Patent number: 6799454
Abstract: For the checking of an exhaust gas recycling valve, the control signal for the exhaust gas return valve is returned from a defined value to zero, in the idle state of the internal combustion engine while the vehicle is at a standstill and the reaction of the signal (MAF) from an airflow detector in the inlet tract is evaluated. Should the signal not exceed a given threshold value (MAE SWD), within a first time period (T2), then a faulty dynamic is assigned to the exhaust recycling valve. Should the signal not exceed a second given threshold value (MAF SWS), within a second time period (T3), then it is determined that the exhaust recycling valve can not be completely shut.

  • Patent number: 6732523
Abstract: A method for precisely controlling the charge pressure in an internal combustion engine with an exhaust-gas turbocharger is disclosed. According to said method, the output or torque of the turbine is determined based on the outputs or torques of the compressor and the loss on the shaft and the selected set point for the correcting variable for adjusting the charge pressure is determined according to said output or said torque of the turbine.

  • Patent number: 6701245
Abstract: The invention relates to the diagnosis of an exhaust gas recycling valve, whereby, on switching off the internal combustion engine, the throttle valve and the exhaust recycling valve are closed and a check is made of whether a compression is detectable in the cylinders of the internal combustion engine, by means of an engine speed check within a segment. Should an engine speed difference (Ndiff) be greater than a threshold value (Ndiff SW), then an incompletely closed exhaust gas recycling valve is recognized, assuming a complete closure of the throttle valve.
