  • Publication number: 20110116442
Abstract: A system for providing an IP-based wireless telecommunications device with access to an IP-based wireless telecommunications service provided by a carrier network includes an access point that sets up a radio link with the IP-based wireless telecommunications device and couples the IP-based wireless telecommunications device to the network. The system also includes a network controller in communication with the carrier network and the access point. The network controller is configured to receive data packets corresponding to the IP-based wireless telecommunications device at the access point. The network controller is also configured to accept/reject the provision of the IP-based wireless telecommunications service to the IP-based wireless telecommunications device based on an IP address or other unique identifier associated with the access point.

  • Publication number: 20100226347
Abstract: A system and method for authorizing mobile devices to carrier networks via non-traditional entry points is described. In some examples, the system reviews a registration message sent during establishment of a communication session between the mobile device and the carrier's network to determine the type of access network used by the mobile device. In some cases, the system may identify the base station controller originating the registration message when determining whether the access request came from an IP-based network or other non-traditional entry point.

  • Publication number: 20100226346
Abstract: A method and system for selectively provisioning services between an access point, which supports telecommunications services over an IP network, and a carrier network includes a network connection and a telephone connector. At least one detection component detects whether a landline telephone is plugged in to the telephone connector. The access point and network are configured to provision telecommunications services based at least in part on an identifier stored in an identification module.

  • Publication number: 20100103831
Abstract: An access point management facility manages use of an access point configured for IP-based communications in a telecommunications system. The facility allows for the establishment of one or more static and/or dynamic parameters for limiting use of the access point for IP-based communications. The facility monitors traffic on the access point and determines whether any requests for use of the access point complies with the parameters for limiting use. The facility then denies or redirects a request for use of the access point if otherwise permitting the request would not comply with the parameters for limiting use of the access point.

  • Publication number: 20100048165
Abstract: A subscriber communicates over an IP-based wireless telecommunications network through an access point. Identifiers associated with the access point (e.g., MAC address IP address, FQDN . . . ) are stored in a database. Each access point is mapped into one or more service zones, where service zones are mapped to service types. The subscriber has a rate plan that is based on a selection of one or more service types. When a wireless connection between the subscriber and the IP-based wireless telecommunications network is established, the access point identifiers are used to retrieve a service zone ID from the database. Upon completion of the communication, a call detail record can be generated that includes the service zone ID for the communication. The billing system can then retrieve billing plan information to determine an appropriate rate for the subscriber based on the service zone ID.

  • Publication number: 20100046406
Abstract: A wireless connection between a mobile device and an IP-based wireless telecommunications network is established when the mobile device registers with a network controller (NC) through an access point (AP). When a geographical position is needed for the mobile device (e.g., a 911 call), messages are exchanged between the NC and a serving mobile location center (SMLC), where the SMLC retrieves information from a database that is used to identify the geographic position of the mobile device. The database can store a variety of information related to mobile devices such as: last known position, IP address, MAC address, a mobile or subscriber identifier (such as an International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI)), last CGI, etc. The geographical position is communicated back to the NC, which can then forward the position information to a switch for processing such as for 911 calls.

  • Publication number: 20100041372
Abstract: A system and method are arranged to evaluate registration requests associated with a mobile subscriber (MS) in a fixed-mobile converged network. The fixed-mobile converged network consists of at least one fixed network topology (e.g., IP) and at least one mobile network topology (e.g., CDMA, TDMA, GSM, etc.). Registration request are received by the system from the MS. The registration request includes information identifying an access point (AP) where the MS obtained access to the fixed network. The identifying information is used to query a database to determine if the MS is authorized for access through the AP. The database can identify the AP in any number of ways, including but not limited to MAC address, IP address, and FQDN. The results form the database query are evaluated and the requested registration from the MS is either completed or rejected based on the access authorization associated with the AP.

  • Publication number: 20100014507
Abstract: A method and system for reducing network load by selectively provisioning services between an access point and a carrier network is disclosed. The access point supports telecommunications services over an IP network. The access point includes a network connection and a telephone connector capable of connecting to a standard landline telephone. The access point also includes at least one detection component that detects whether a landline telephone is plugged in to the telephone connector. The access point is configured to provision a telecommunications services through the IP network when it detects that an identification module is present.

  • Publication number: 20090219826
Abstract: A system and method manages call connections between mobile subscribers and an EP-based wireless telecommunications network through a wireless access point. Communications between the mobile subscribers and the IP-based wireless telecommunications network are initiated by a registration request. During the registration request various identifiers (IMSI, MAC address, IP Address, etc.) are communicated to the system. The system is arranged to log the identifiers and associate those identifiers with the entry point (e.g., the wireless access point) into the IP based wireless network. Call connections from the mobile subscribers are monitored for various throughput and call quality based metrics. Call handoffs between the IP-based wireless communications network and the cellular telephony network are managed by the system based on the monitored call quality and throughput metrics on a per-access point basis using the registered identifiers.

  • Publication number: 20090215429
Abstract: A system and method for collaborating with a billing system is provided for use in a converged telecommunication network that includes a cellular telephone network and an IP-based network. During an IP-based call registration process, a mobile device communicates with a network controller over the IP-based network. The network controller accesses a database with the information provided by the mobile device and subsequently overloads values for an existing field in a call detail record (CDR). Upon completion of the call over the IP-based network, the network controller communicates the overloaded version of the CDR to an MSC which generates the final CDR that is used for billing. Any appropriate field of the CDR can be selected for overloading, such as for example an existing CGI record field from the CDR.

  • Publication number: 20090196268
Abstract: A system and related method provide a registration request via an access point, wherein the access point is associated with a defined service zone. In response, an authorization signal to access telecommunications services is received. The authorization signal includes service zone name data for the service zone and/or at least one service zone icon indicator for the service zone. Further details are described herein.
