  • Patent number: 8485022
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus are provided for detecting improperly sealed portions of sealed packages. For example, in one embodiment, a package leak detection system automatically provides pressure within a tank for a predetermined period of time. The tank is at least partially filled with colored fluid with a sealed package being at least partially submerged in the colored fluid. In the tank, the pressure inside the tank forces the colored fluid into improperly sealed portions of the sealed package. After the predetermined period of time has elapsed, the package leak detection system automatically shuts off the package leak detection system and releases the pressure within the tank so the sealed package can be inspected for potential leaks.

  • Patent number: 7292899
Abstract: A method of controlling a distillation column having control valves to control both reflux and the vapor rate within the column. In accordance with the present invention, a temperature sensed in a top section of the column is magnified and utilized within the model predictive controller so that control is more aggressive as temperatures increase beyond a threshold temperature. Additionally, in the distillation column, or in fact in any other system in which two or more manipulated variables control two or more common controlled variables, special modeling techniques are utilized to make controller tuning easier to accomplish. In such modeling techniques, each manipulated variable is assumed to be able to have an effect on a controlled variable by a single step response model and other step response models are utilized so that the other manipulated variable(s) that also would have an effect on the same controlled variable are taken into account by the controller as feed forward variables.

  • Patent number: 7255314
Abstract: Various types of extendable support structures provide a lateral dimension that is defined by at least one lazy tong, and the longitudinal dimension is variable by extension and retraction of the at least one lazy tong. The extendable structure may include a plurality of adjacent and attached lazy tongs that are capable of supporting a significant load through the interconnection of the adjacent lazy tongs forming the structure. The extendable structure may be fully retracted to minimize the longitudinal dimension and thereby provide a compact structure, such as one that can be easily transported or stored. The extendable structure may be extended to a length as required for a particular purpose and limited to a maximum longitudinal dimension when the structure is being used to support a load. As such the various types of extendable support structures may be used in many scenarios, such as for providing a loading ramp, bridge, walkway, or working surface.

  • Patent number: 7204031
Abstract: The telescoping T-square has a crossbar or cross-member and an extendable shaft or leg. The cross-member is a relatively short bar having a pair of parallel runners longitudinally extending across the length of one surface of the bar and a slot defined through the bar between the runners that extends from the center of the bar laterally towards one of the ends of the bar. The leg has a tubular, hollow proximal rod removably attached to the cross-member, and at least one telescoping distal rod slidably disposed in the proximal rod, with detent buttons locking the rods together at selected intervals. One end of the proximal rod has transverse grooves or channels defined therein slidably receiving the runners and a threaded stud extending therefrom that is slidable in the slot defined in the cross-member. A knob engages the stud to temporarily lock the cross-member and leg in fixed relation.

  • Publication number: 20060026011
Abstract: A component-based customer care management provides a flexible, modifiable, and customizable data processing system that may be tailored according to a business' needs. The component-based system may be deployed as a software, hardware, or software and hardware enterprise system. The enterprise system may include discrete federated task-based components that that interface with a database of information through a data management or integration components. The enterprise system may be modified or updated with modifications to components to realize changing data processing needs. The enterprise system may be maintained, revised, modified, or updated without substantial or significant recoding.

  • Publication number: 20050262157
Abstract: An apparatus for and method of utilizing an Internet terminal coupled to the world wide web to access data from a legacy data base via a legacy data base management system wherein said legacy data base and said legacy data base management system are incompatible. The user request is passed to the legacy data base management system via the Internet. The user request is converted into a form which can log-on and log-off from the legacy data base. Other commands when converted can fetch data, modify data, and store data from the legacy data base. Using these commands, data can be copied from the legacy data base into the legacy data base management system, from which it can be operated upon using all of the tools of the legacy data base management system. Following modification, the data can be recopied back into the legacy data base.

  • Patent number: 6780227
Abstract: A species transfer device in communication with at least two streams, one stream having a higher potential of a species than a lower potential stream. The species transfer device is capable of removing a portion of the species from the high potential stream, and transferring the removed species into the low potential stream. The species transfer device incorporates a housing assembly, exchange matrix and optionally, a sorbent. The housing assembly contains both the exchange matrix and optionally a sorbent inside a housing enclosure and between a sealing enclosure, and provides for the entrance and exhaust of the first and second streams therethrough. The exchange matrix can be, but need not be, in the form of a wheel having an average linear coefficient of thermal expansion at 25 to 800° C. of less than about 20×10−7/° C. The housing assembly with the housing and sealing enclosures enables the species transfer device to run efficiently through a range of pressures.
