  • Publication number: 20200007415
Abstract: A device implementing a system for notifying a first device of availability of a service on a second device includes a processor configured to receive, from the first device of a first user, a. first request with respect to whether a service is available on the second device of a second user, and to determine that the service is not available on the second device. The processor is further configured to send, to the first device and in response to the determination, an indication that the service is not available on the second device and an indication of a minimum amount of time before the first device can submit a second request with respect to whether the service is available on the second device. The minimum amount of time is based at least partially on an amount of time that has elapsed since the service was made available to the devices.

  • Publication number: 20190394189
Abstract: Implementations of the subject technology provide for performing, by a device, a request for obtaining information related to a phone authentication certificate (PAC) that was generated for the device, the PAC authenticating that a particular phone number is associated with the device, the request including packets of data. The subject technology receives the information related to the PAC, the information including an indication that the PAC was generated for the device. The subject technology sends, from the device, a request for validating the PAC to a remote server based at least in part on the information related to the PAC. Further, the subject technology receives a confirmation of validating the PAC from the remote server based at least in part on the information related to the PAC.

  • Publication number: 20190372961
Abstract: Aspects of subject technology provide systems and methods for generation and distribution of a stable identifier associated with multiple aliases of a user account. The stable identifier may be provided to various electronic devices by a server, responsive to requests associated with communications to those devices from one of the associated aliases. In this way, messaging applications can utilize the stable identifier to merge conversations from a single user having multiple aliases, and secure access to a secure device can be provided to an authorized user, even if the authorized user attempts access from an unauthorized account alias.

  • Publication number: 20190356767
Abstract: Systems, methods and non-transitory computer readable media for allowing a user to switch between wearable items that have been paired or associated with an electronic device, such as a smartphone, are described. In one embodiment, the wearable items automatically detect a removal of a first wearable item from a user's body and an attachment of a second wearable item to the user's body. Messages from the wearable items are transmitted to the electronic device to allow the electronic device to switch the active wearable item from the first wearable item to the second wearable item. The switch can occur while the electronic device is in a locked state, and the electronic device can synchronize the second wearable item with data received from the first wearable item. Other embodiments are also described.

  • Publication number: 20190230503
Abstract: This application relates to techniques for anonymously establishing a secure communication session with a wireless client. A described method, performed by an anonymous wireless host, includes advertising a service implemented by the anonymous wireless host as available over a wireless network, receiving an invitation to establish the secure communication session with the wireless client, transmitting an acceptance of the invitation to the wireless client, and establishing the secure communication session over a communication channel. The invitation is received from the wireless client and the acceptance is transmitted to the wireless client via a broadcast address or a multicast address associated with the wireless network. The secure communication session is used to exchange encrypted data between the service and the wireless client.

  • Patent number: 10348857
Abstract: Methods and devices for enabling communication of a client application of a computing device with other devices are provided. The method includes obtaining, from a first client application on the computing device, one or more preferences for creating a first subservice for communicating with the other devices. A template service file associated with the first client application is identified and the template service file includes property definitions for creating subservices that communicate with the other devices. The template service file is used to create a first configuration file corresponding to the first client application, the a first configuration file including a plurality of the property definitions of the template service file. At least one of the plurality of the property definitions is modified using the one or more preferences. The first configuration file is stored in a memory of the computing device.

  • Patent number: 10321298
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for validating an association of a telephone number with a cellular communication device (e.g., validating an assignment of an MSISDN to an IMSI of the cellular communication device). For example, the validating may be performed as part of a process of registering the cellular communication device with a registration server for participation in online communication sessions. In other examples, the validation may be performed for purposes other than registration for participation in online communication sessions. Various mechanisms may be available for performing the validation. The registration server may determine the available mechanisms, and may provide to the cellular communication device an ordered list of mechanisms according to a preferred order. The cellular communication device may improve efficiency of validation by attempting the mechanisms in the preferred order.

  • Patent number: 10321510
Abstract: Methods and user equipment devices (UEs) are disclosed for performing keep alive interval fallback. During an active connection with a remote network, a UE may operate in a steady state configuration wherein keep alive message are periodically sent to the remote network. The UE may determine that a keep alive message has failed to receive an acknowledgement (ACK) response. Based on the determination that the keep alive message has failed, the UE may trigger keep alive interval fallback, wherein the UE sends keep alive messages at a shorter duration for a predetermined period of time.

  • Publication number: 20190121523
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices can allow applications to provide complication data to be displayed in a complication of a watch face. A client application can create a complication data object according to a template to efficiently select how the complication data is to be displayed. For example, a complication controller on the watch can receive new data and determine which template to use. The complication data object can be sent to a display manager that can identify the selected template and display the data according to the template.

  • Publication number: 20190103984
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to multiway communications. In some embodiments, a first electronic device initiates a multiway call between a plurality of electronic devices and exchanges a first secret with a first set of electronic devices participating during a first portion of the multiway call, the first secret being used to encrypt traffic between the first set of electronic devices. The first electronic device receives an indication that first set of participating electronic devices has changed and, in response to the indication, exchanges a second secret with a second set of electronic devices participating during a second portion of the multiway call, the second secret being used to encrypt traffic between the second set of participating electronic devices. In some embodiments, the indication identifies a second electronic device as leaving the multiway call, and the second secret is not exchanged with the second electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20190104407
Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a device that transmits/receives encrypted communications with another device. A first device, such as a smart phone or smart watch, may generate a message associated with a certain data class, which may determine the security procedure used in the communication of the message. The first device may establish an encryption session for the purpose of communicating the message to a second device. Prior to sending the message, the first device may wait until encryption credentials are accessible according to certain conditions, which may be determined at least in part by the data class of the message. Similarly, after receiving the message, the second device may not be able to decrypt the message until encryption credentials are accessible according to certain conditions, which may be determined at least in part by the message data class.

  • Publication number: 20190034188
Abstract: A companion device can obtain a new version of a software program (e.g., in portions) from a server at the request of an accessory device, and provide the new version of the software to the accessory device. The software update of the accessory device can be initiated at the companion device. The companion device can communicate with the accessory device before and after the update to determine whether the update was successful. A notification about the update can then be provided to a user.

  • Publication number: 20190028423
Abstract: Messaging between a companion device and an accessory device is controlled such that different modes of communication may be utilized. The different modes can implement different messaging strategies, each of which is intended for efficient power management, in view of the limited electrical power that is typically available at the accessory device. A received request message for sending from the companion device to the accessory device is sent if predetermined conditions apply, and similarly for messages from the accessory device to the companion device.

  • Patent number: 10187430
Abstract: In some implementations, a network daemon can manage access to a mobile device's network interface. The network daemon (e.g., network connection managing process) can monitor the condition of the mobile device's network connection on one or more interfaces. The network daemon can monitor many conditions on the mobile device. The network daemon can receive background networking requests from network clients (e.g., processes, applications) that specify criteria for initiating a network connection. The network daemon can then smartly manage network connections taking into account network conditions, mobile device conditions and/or client criteria received in the client request. This can help reduce battery life impact, memory usage, likelihood of call drops, data usage cost, and load on network operators.
