  • Patent number: 10171605
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to systems and methods for transmitting service related messages, e.g., via a reverse push connection. In some embodiments, a UE may be configured to receive a random value from a server, the random value based at least in part on a capacity of the server and/or network. The UE may be configured to compare the random value to a generated value, and determine, based at least in part on the comparison, to transmit a service related message over a reverse push connection rather than via a hypertext transport protocol (HTTP) request. In some embodiments, the service related message may be any message that relates to a service available between devices, such as an identity (ID) query request, a service (de-) registration request, and/or a device listing request, among other types of messages.

  • Publication number: 20180352587
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) device and associated methods for entering a suspended baseband state in response to a signal strength indicator falling below a threshold. A UE engages in an active connection with a remote server, which may be a transmission control protocol (TCP) push connection. A baseband layer of the UE determines that the signal strength indicator has fallen below a threshold, and transmits a notification to an application layer of the UE to suspend the connection. The baseband layer may later determine that the signal strength has risen above a second threshold, whereby the UE may resume the suspended connection. The UE may maintain state information associated with the connection during the suspended state, such that the UE may resume the suspended connection without reestablishing a new connection with the remote server.

  • Publication number: 20180352586
Abstract: Methods and user equipment devices (UEs) are disclosed for performing keep alive interval fallback. During an active connection with a remote network, a UE may operate in a steady state configuration wherein keep alive message are periodically sent to the remote network. The UE may determine that a keep alive message has failed to receive an acknowledgement (ACK) response. Based on the determination that the keep alive message has failed, the UE may trigger keep alive interval fallback, wherein the UE sends keep alive messages at a shorter duration for a predetermined period of time.

  • Publication number: 20180352417
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for validating an association of a telephone number with a cellular communication device (e.g., validating an assignment of an MSISDN to an IMSI of the cellular communication device). For example, the validating may be performed as part of a process of registering the cellular communication device with a registration server for participation in online communication sessions. In other examples, the validation may be performed for purposes other than registration for participation in online communication sessions. Various mechanisms may be available for performing the validation. The registration server may determine the available mechanisms, and may provide to the cellular communication device an ordered list of mechanisms according to a preferred order. The cellular communication device may improve efficiency of validation by attempting the mechanisms in the preferred order.

  • Publication number: 20180337967
Abstract: A messaging system, in one embodiment, can establish messaging accounts for a plurality of organizations (e.g., businesses) to allow customers or users of the organizations to conduct two-way messaging sessions between a customer and an organization. The messaging system can use a registration portal to allow an organization to set up a business/organization messaging account by providing account information. The account information can then be used to update one or more searchable databases that allow a customer to have multiple entry points into a messaging session with each of the registered businesses in the messaging system. For example, a search through a web browser or a map application can provide search results that contain or otherwise provide access to a selectable messaging option that is presented on a customer's device.

  • Patent number: 10136312
Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a device that transmits/receives encrypted communications with another device. A first device, such as a smart phone or smart watch, may generate a message associated with a certain data class, which may determine the security procedure used in the communication of the message. The first device may establish an encryption session for the purpose of communicating the message to a second device. Prior to sending the message, the first device may wait until encryption credentials are accessible according to certain conditions, which may be determined at least in part by the data class of the message. Similarly, after receiving the message, the second device may not be able to decrypt the message until encryption credentials are accessible according to certain conditions, which may be determined at least in part by the message data class.

  • Patent number: 10095500
Abstract: When a new version of a first program is to be installed on a first device, metadata supplied to that device specifies which versions of a second program stored on a second device are compatible with the new version. The first device uses this metadata to determine a compatibility classification that indicates how compatible the current version of the second program and the new version of the first program are, and transitions to a state representative of this compatibility classification. A process executing on the first device receives messages from applications executing on the first device. The process reads mappings between these applications and the message types these applications send. The process forwards an application's message to the second device if the application sends a message type allowable in the first device's state. Otherwise, the process queues that message at least until the first device transitions to a different state.

  • Patent number: 10084904
Abstract: A companion device (e.g., smart phone) and an accessory device (e.g., wearable device) may be configured to communicate messages to each other to flexibly share information, such as emails, text messages, calendar notifications, and media library items. This communication may occur through a direct connection (e.g., Bluetooth) and when the devices are connected to a common Wi-Fi access point. When these direct and common infrastructure connections are not available, the devices may communicate messages between them using a cloud server. This cloud server message communication may advantageously enable the companion device and the accessory device to share messages even when they are physically distant from each other.

  • Patent number: 10064026
Abstract: A unified message delivery between multiple devices is disclosed. Sending messages through a local communications link, such as but not limited to at least one of a Bluetooth connection and a peer-to-peer WiFi connection, can lead to faster transmission times and reduced server load. When the local communications link is unavailable or not suitable, the messages can be sent through a network and a push server. In some examples, messages can be sent through both the local communications link and through the network and the push server. Duplicates of a received message can be avoided by utilizing indicators. In some examples, one or more devices can include queue(s) to ensure ordered delivery of a plurality of messages when a local communications link and network connection become unavailable.

  • Publication number: 20180013851
Abstract: A system and method are described for establishing two-way push communication between an intermediate or companion device and a mobile device. Mobile devices register to listen for push notifications delivered through a push notification service from a specified set of providers. The presence of the mobile devices is delivered to the push notification service that maps the mobile devices to connections made between their respective companion devices and the push notification service. If the push notification service determines that a mobile device is “online,” in response to receiving a push notification for the mobile device, a current network connection over which a companion device is listening for push notifications is identified and the push notification is forwarded to the companion device. The companion device then can deliver the push notification to the mobile device.
