Publication number: 20170336363Abstract: Disclosed are a system and method for evaluating a tissue sample that has been removed from a subject. Movement of fluid through the tissue sample is monitored by measuring time of flight of acoustic waves passed through the tissue sample. A system for performing the method can include a transmitter that outputs the energy and a receiver configured to detect the transmitted energy. Using the disclosed method and system, an optimized protocol for ensuring adequate distribution of the fluid throughout a variety of tissue types and/or sample sizes can be developed and utilized.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2017Publication date: November 23, 2017Inventors: Daniel Bauer, David Chafin, Michael Otter, Abbey Theiss

Publication number: 20170297745Abstract: In order to provide a simplified inspection of an aircraft for the pilot, an aircraft inspection system is provided which includes at least one movable inspection unit, a position detection arrangement, and at least one data transfer interface. The at least one moveable inspection unit is moveable relative to an aircraft to be inspected. The at least one movable inspection unit includes at least one sensor for detecting a characteristic value, for verifying a characteristic and/or for determining a defect of an aircraft. The movable inspection unit is configured to generate monitoring data. When a defect or a characteristic value is detected, the position detection arrangement detects position data of the movable inspection unit in relation to the aircraft to be inspected, and assigns the position data to the monitoring data. The data transfer interface provides the position data with the assigned monitoring data as inspection data.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 28, 2016Publication date: October 19, 2017Applicant: Airbus Defence and Space GmbHInventors: Franz Engel, Daniel Bauer, Tilman Orth, Christian Weimer

Publication number: 20170284920Abstract: The subject disclosure presents systems and computer-implemented methods for evaluating a tissue sample that has been removed from a subject. A change in speed of the energy traveling through the sample is evaluated to monitor changes in the biological sample during processing. The rate of change in the speed of the energy is correlated with the extent of diffusion. A system for performing the method can include a transmitter that outputs the energy and a receiver configured to detect the transmitted energy. A time-of-flight of acoustic waves and rate of change thereof is monitored to determine an optimal time for soaking the tissue sample in a fixative.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 15, 2017Publication date: October 5, 2017Inventors: Daniel Bauer, David Chafin, Michael Otter

Publication number: 20170284859Abstract: The subject disclosure presents systems and computer-implemented methods for calculating the diffusivity constant of a sample using acoustic time-of-flight (TOF) based information correlated with a diffusion model to reconstruct a sample's diffusivity coefficient. Operations disclosed herein such as acoustically determining the phase differential accumulated through passive fluid exchange (i.e. diffusion) based on the geometry of the tissue sample, modeling the impact of the diffusion on the TOF, and using a post-processing algorithm to correlate the results to determine the diffusivity constant, are enabled by monitoring the changes in the speed of sound caused by penetration of fixative such as formalin into several tissue samples. A tissue preparation system may be adapted to monitor said diffusion of a tissue sample and determine an optimal processing workflow.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 15, 2017Publication date: October 5, 2017Inventors: Daniel Bauer, Michael Otter, Benjamin Stevens

Publication number: 20170284969Abstract: The subject disclosure presents systems and computer-implemented methods for determining an acoustic time-of-flight (TOF) of sound waves through a sample material with greater accuracy and in a more repeatable fashion, by invoking one or more of an envelope generation for an error function, fitting a non-linear curve to an ultrasound frequency sweep, or performing a clustered piece-wise linear regression on individual linear parts of the ultrasonic frequency sweep. The systems and methods are useful for, among other things, monitoring diffusion of fluids through porous materials, such as tissue samples.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 15, 2017Publication date: October 5, 2017Inventors: Daniel Bauer, Michael Otter, Benjamin Stevens

Publication number: 20170184477Abstract: The present disclosure relates to use of high-concentration aldehyde-based fixatives to fix tissue samples. Aldehyde concentrations are selected that significantly increase rate of diffusion of the fixative solution into the tissue. When combined in the cold-temperature step of a two-temperature fixation, a substantial improvement in the preservation of post-translationally modified proteins is achieved.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 10, 2017Publication date: June 29, 2017Inventors: Daniel Bauer, David Chafin, Michael Otter, Abbey Pierson Theiss

Publication number: 20160323155Abstract: A mechanism for declarative service domain federation uses a declarative approach to both the visibility aspect and the management aspect of service domain federation. Instead of manually exporting services, that is, selecting individual services from source domains to be visible in the target domain, using the present system, a federation architect uses a federation console to specify federation intent. The federation intent may include federation rule, query-based service group, and quality-of-service (QoS) policy. Based on the declared federation intent, a planning engine resolves the individual services based on the group query, generates the service visibility configuration, and creates the necessary service proxies and/or mediation objects to satisfy the goal. At runtime, a service monitor collects the performance metrics of federated services and dynamically adjusts the mediation/proxy configurations to maintain the QoS objectives specified by the federation architect.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 8, 2016Publication date: November 3, 2016Inventors: Daniel Bauer, Nicholas D. Butler, Han Chen, Kristijan Dragicevic, Luis Garces-Erice, Gidon Gershinsky, Minkyong Kim, Hui Lei, David Rushall, Marc-Thomas H. Schmidt, Konstantin Shagin, Hao Yang, Liangzhao Zeng
