  • Publication number: 20060205425
Abstract: Method and system are described to determine a signal quality for nodes of a network. In one embodiment, a signal quality for nodes of a network is determined. The nodes are ranked based on the signal quality. Information from a node at a device is received; the information indicates whether the node is satisfied. In the event the node is satisfied, whether a next ranked node is satisfied is determined. In the event the node is not satisfied, network resources are allocated to the node until the node is satisfied.

  • Patent number: 7099682
Abstract: Network resources such as in a wireless system may be allocated to user devices on the network based upon at least one or more minimum user requirements being satisfied. A user may be determined as satisfied when minimum requirements of rate and delay are reached or maintained. The network may optimize throughput on the network by allowing a maximum number of users on the network to be satisfied. Users may be ranked according to signal quality, and network resources may be allocated to users according to rank to satisfy users until the resources of the network are allocated.

  • Patent number: 7036071
Abstract: A communication system includes a lattice interfered channel to transmit data from a transmitter to a receiver. In one embodiment, an encoding-modulation scheme having a rich signal constellation is used to encode data at a total rate of 0.7 bit/dimension or less before transmission into the lattice interfered channel. In another embodiment, decoding metric approximation techniques are used to process signals received from the lattice interfered channel. In still another embodiment, multilevel code (MLC) decoding is used to jointly decode an error correction code component and a lattice/MLC component of a received signal. The error correction code component may then be extracted from the decoded signal.

  • Publication number: 20050143068
Abstract: In a wireless communications system, during a base station or cell monitoring procedure, a device, system, and method may enable a communication device to determine if a serving base station is transmitting an adequate signal, and, if the base station is not transmitting an adequate signal, identifying another base station that may provide adequate service. For example, it may be determined if at least one other base station in a list of previously identified base stations transmits adequate signals. If this is not the case, a scan may be performed of a set of channels to identify further base stations or cells.

  • Patent number: 6873661
Abstract: A method of ?/4-shift QPSK modulation and ?/4-shift QPSK modulator are provided. The modulator address symbols from a Precursor section of a register to a first memory portion and from a Postcursor section of the register to a second memory portion at odd times and, address symbols from the Precursor section to said second memory portion and from said Postcursor section to said first memory portion at even times. The modulator uses reversed addressing for Postcursor symbols in accessing the said first and second memory portions.

  • Patent number: 6788708
Abstract: A pilot acquisition unit for code division multiple access (CDMA) communication systems is provided which includes a fast Hadamard transform (FHT) unit and a pre-Hadamard processing unit. The FHT unit determines the quality, in accordance with a metric, of each of a set of possible pseudo-random number (PN) loadings and the pre-Hadamard processing unit generates a vector u per set of PN loadings. The vector u defines a quality metric of a received pilot signal with the set of possible PN loadings, the pre-Hadamard processing unit providing the vector u to the FHT unit.

  • Patent number: RE39540
Abstract: A searcher for a mobile station of a cellular telephony network. Pilot signal from nearby base stations are correlated with a pseudonoise sequence inside a search window, using a bank of correlators. Each correlator is assigned a different delay, from among a sequence of delays in the window. At each delay, correlation is performed initially for a first dwell time. If the resulting correlation value exceeds a threshold, the correlation is continued for a second dwell time. Otherwise, the correlator is set to the next delay in the sequence. Only the outputs of second dwell correlations are used to identify the nearest base station. Some correlators may perform first dwell correlations at new delays in the window at the same time that other correlators are still performing second dwell correlations at old delays in the window.
