  • Publication number: 20030163809
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a method, computer program product, and data processing system for providing automatic, mass-customized preparation of disk images. The invention relies on a front end, which interacts with customers and sales personnel to acquire self-consistent provisioning requirements. These requirements are input to a provisioning engine, which uses a knowledge base of constraints and affinities to generate a set of provisioning orders. These orders are input to a disk image builder, which automatically creates the disk image and saves it for distribution. The disk image builder also consults a knowledge base concerning best practices established by the service provider for disk image builds. Finally, the requirements are used to drive a disk image tester, which exercises the image as a quality inspection.

  • Publication number: 20020144180
Abstract: A method includes steps of (A) detecting an activation of a user input that indicates that the system, or a program executed by the system, has become non-responsive to a user; (B) determining an identification of any currently open files and programs with which currently open files are associated; (C) determining an identification of those programs that are normally not in a non-responsive state; and (D) saving those currently open files that are associated with programs that are identified as being not normally in the non-responsive state. A next step notifies the user that any currently open files that are associated with programs identified as being not normally in the non-responsive state have been saved. In a further step the user may restart the digital data processing system, and retrieve at least one of the saved files. The step of detecting can be executed in response to the user manually activating a switch or by the user activating one or more keyboard keys.

  • Patent number: 5507035
Abstract: In a mobile cellular communication system, a base station is wired to a Local Area Network (LAN), and has wireless communication with a plurality of mobile stations. Multipath fading is substantially reduced in the system by utilizing antenna diversity techniques at the base station and each of the plurality of mobile stations. The combination of the independent operation of antenna selection diversity at both a base station and a mobile station results in the selection of the best propagation path between the two stations.

  • Patent number: 5384777
Abstract: A Medium Access (MAC) Protocol is utilized for wireless radio access for a plurality of remote stations to a base station on a LAN. There is a time division fixed frame structure in which time is slotted, and time slots are grouped into fixed frames consisting of data and control subframes or periods. The fixed frame structure consists of three periods (A, B, and C) along with their respective headers. The first period, the A period, is used exclusively for data transfer from the base station to the remote stations. The following period, the B period, is used for contention-free data transfer from the remote stations to the base station. The allocation of the data slots in the A and B periods is performed by the base station. The last period of the frame, designated as the C period, is used for the transmission of reservation requests and data from the remote stations to the base station in a random-access contention mode using a slotted Aloha protocol.

  • Patent number: 5123029
Abstract: A hybrid of controlled access and random access schemes using frequency hopping spread spectrum communication techniques is implemented in an indoor digital data radio communication system between mobile stations and a computer system. A hop in the frequency hopping spread spectrum communication system is subdivided into two intervals so that different media-access protocols can be used in each interval. The protocol uses a centralized control scheme in one interval and a decentralized scheme in the other, and the intervals may be varied depending on the load of the system.

  • Patent number: 4731606
Abstract: A method for rapid windowing of display information in computer graphics is disclosed herein. Image display data is maintained in a hierarchical data tree structure. Small numbers of bits of data called summaries are maintained at the nodes of the tree. The large complete data image is divided into units called boxes. These boxes combine to form a master box for a particular window size. By searching the summaries for each box and locating the window within the master box, traversal of an entire subtree may be terminated quickly, proceed on only some of the subtrees, or proceed through to completion. A clipped image is rapidly generated that can be rendered to the viewer.

  • Patent number: 4679038
Abstract: Pixel representations for each of a plurality of superimposed (or splitscreen) display portions are accumulated in a band buffer prior to being transferred to the display. The actual pixel representations are made available to the band buffer from an image memory, with addresses provided by a display list memory. This system minimizes the need for buffering and high speed storage to service the video, by addressing first the display list memory, then in turn using the content of the display list memory to address the image storage, and then in turn using the content of the image storage as the actual pixel representations for accumulation in the band buffer. Two band buffers operate alternatively. The current band buffer is feeding a band of pixel representations to the video shift register while the next band buffer is accumulating the pixel representations of the subsequent video display band. The band buffer accumulates actual pixel representations equivalent to the related band of the display.

  • Patent number: 4644503
Abstract: The system includes a plurality of memory units each for storing a plurality of independently addressable binary bits. The units operate together in response to each common bit address to supply a bit from each unit to form an array of bits for a discrete section of a larger array. The units are interconnected through common interconnection buses and selectively actuable input and output gate connections to those buses to provide for selective shifting of bits between units to change the bit array.

  • Patent number: 4578674
Abstract: A method and apparatus for wireless cursor position control is disclosed herein. The apparatus comprises a wireless cursor position device and a separate control base whereby the direction and velocity of motion of the position device is monitored by the control base and used said direction and velocity of motion is to calculate the relative motion of the cursor on the display system. The method and apparatus operates by transmitting and receiving ultrasonic and infrared signals between the position device and control base and thereby calculating the movement of the position device from an initial location by measurement doppler shift of the signals. An output signal to the display system is then generated to move the cursor in correspondence with the motion of the position device.
