  • Publication number: 20120254495
Abstract: An apparatus includes a transceiver device mounted on a printed circuit board and configured to selectively transmit and receive signals at a first data rate or signals at a second data rate. An X2 form factor pluggable connector disposed at one end of the printed circuit board includes first and second pins that respectively convey signals at the first and second data rates between the transceiver device and a system device. A port device disposed at an opposite end of the printed circuit board conveys signals between the transceiver device and a network device. A management circuit determines which of the first and second data rates is selected based on transmissions between the system device and the network device and controls the transceiver device to transmit and receive signal at the first data rate via the first pins and at the second data rate via the second pins.

  • Patent number: 8280853
Abstract: System and method for tracking statistics at the subfile level and transparently placing or migrating inactive or less active blocks of data to other storage devices. Embodiments may provide mechanisms to track statistics at the subfile level of files including, but not limited to, database files, and to transparently place or migrate inactive or less active blocks of data of the files from higher-performing, typically more expensive, storage to lower-performing, typically less expensive, storage, while placing or migrating active blocks of data of the files to higher-performing storage, based on the subfile-level statistics rather than on file-level timestamps. In some embodiments, knowledge of file structure (e.g., database file structure), for example knowledge of database partitions with header blocks and data blocks in databases using data partitioning, may be used to separate more active and less active blocks of data of files onto storage with different performance and/or other characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20120087675
Abstract: An apparatus, in accordance with particular embodiments, includes an interface configured to establish connections within a copper network. The apparatus also includes a receptacle configured to receive a conventional small form-factor pluggable (SFP) module or a compact SFP module and to direct the SFP modules to a first connector. The first connector connects either of the SFP modules to the node. A pin of the first connector is configured to receive a module detection signal and to transmit data to the compact SFP module. The apparatus also includes a low pass filter coupled to the pin of the first connector that passes the module detection signal to the node. The apparatus is further configured to establish two duplex connections with an optical fiber network if the compact SFP module is connected and to establish one duplex connection with the optical fiber network if the conventional SFP module is connected.

  • Patent number: 7987157
Abstract: System and method for refreshing databases. A refresh mechanism may allow a data warehouse to remain available to users while the data is being refreshed. Embodiments may be used to perform low impact off-host data loading for databases including, but not limited to, data warehouses and to reduce the data loading window. A checkpoint of the production database may be generated. A database clone may be generated from the checkpoint. In one embodiment, the generated database clone includes references to data in the production database and not the data itself, and is thus storage space-efficient. Data may be loaded to the database clone. The checkpoint may then be switched to be the entry point to the production database after the loading is complete.

  • Patent number: 7743706
Abstract: A bullet for cleaning/scouring the interior surface of a gun barrel including a jacket section on a rear end and joined to a projectile section on the other end forming a chamber containing a cleaning liquid. An array of brushes is positioned on the outside surface of the forward wall of the projectile section. An explosive cake is positioned against the rear end of the jacket section. A piston disk is positioned against the cake. When the cake is detonated, the disk first expels fluid from the chamber and against the interior wall of the barrel. Then the disk forces the forward wall to spread out so that the brushes on the forward wall come into contact with the interior surface of the gun barrel.

  • Patent number: 7558192
Abstract: One embodiment of the invention includes a system for overriding an operation of an electronic device. The system includes an override hardware logic that is communicatively coupled with a monitoring system. The monitoring system can output an electronic command signal in response to a detected point of failure associated with the system.
