  • Patent number: 10625153
Abstract: A lighting controller for controlling illumination emitted by one or more luminaires to accompany a video game. When a first event occurs during gameplay, the controller receives an indication of an identified type of the first event from amongst a set of predefined event types, and based on this controls the illumination to produce a first lighting effect to accompany the first event during the gameplay phase. When a second event of the same type occurs in a non-gameplay phase of the video game, the controller receives an indication of this also. Based on identifying that the events are the same type, but that the video game is in the non-gameplay phase rather than the gameplay phase, the controller controls the illumination to produce a second lighting effect to accompany the occurrence of the second event during the non-gameplay phase, this effect being visibly distinct from the first lighting effect.

  • Publication number: 20200007356
Abstract: A controller handles control events in a system of networked home devices by: receiving a signal indicative of a control event, which is an actuation of a user input device; and in response, determining whether to perform a control function associated with networked home device, that determination being made in dependence on a state of interaction between that device and a physical environment in which it is located at a time of the control event. If the control function is performed in response to the control event, it causes the networked home device to perform an action that changes the state of interaction between that device and the physical environment in which it is located. Otherwise, the controller causes another control function associated with a different networked home device of the system to be performed in response to the control event instead.

  • Patent number: 10475085
Abstract: An online system selects advertisements for inclusion in a scrollable advertisement unit that includes a display area and multiple advertisements, each associated with a position in the scrollable advertisement unit. Positions in the scrollable advertisement unit are ranked based on a measure of predicted performance of an advertisement in each position. Advertisements are ranked based on a probability of being viewed by a user if associated with a particular position in the scrollable advertisement unit and, optionally, on a probability of presenting an advertisement based on characteristics of the advertisement. The position ranking and the advertisement ranking are used to associate advertisements with positions. For example, an advertisement is associated with a position having a location in the position ranking corresponding to the advertisement's position in the advertisement ranking.
