Abstract: A photovoltaic system with photovoltaic (PV) panels is described. Each of the PV panels has a corresponding inverter module. The inverter module includes a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) for independently monitoring and controlling the respective PV panel, a switch regulator for converting the DC output to an AC output; an insulating transformer for receiving the AC output and inverting the AC output at about the first voltage to a second voltage; and a rectifier for rectifying the AC output to a second DC output at about the second voltage. The photovoltaic system further includes a main inverter with two power terminals. The second DC outputs of the inverter modules are connected in parallel to the two power terminals at the second voltage, and the second DC outputs are inverted to an AC power by the main inverter.
