  • Publication number: 20120298291
Abstract: Matrix basalt reinforcing members for concrete. The basalt members are specifically formed to provide tension support having a beneficial use with pervious concrete used in large areas such as sidewalk and parking lot. The basalt reinforcing members add structural rigidity to the pervious concrete, making the pervious concrete capable of supporting heavy loads such as trucks without cracking while allowing water to pass through the concrete. The basalt reinforcing members are formed from roving crosses and interlaces in between each side of the figure 8 shape to mitigate potential for sheer at crossovers.

  • Patent number: 6997252
Abstract: A hydraulic setting tool for packers capable of mechanically setting the packer and opening a valve in the packer in one trip. The tool comprises an outer sleeve and an inner mandrel coaxially disposed within the outer sleeve and adapted to move axially relative to the outer sleeve. The tool further comprises three locking mechnisms that unlock under different fluid pressure loads. Two of the locking mechanisms lock the inner mandrel to the outer sleeve in a run-in position. Once a sufficient fluid pressure has been reached to unlock both of these locking mechanisms, the inner mandrel moves upward relative to the outer sleeve to set the packer. A spring forces the inner mandrel into a third position relative to the outer sleeve, which is maintained by the third locking mechanism. This third position is used to open the packer valve.

  • Patent number: 6958813
Abstract: Provided is a photodetector that detects missile launches from an above-flying surveillance platform through clouds. The plume detector includes a passive electro-optical sensor which detects the narrow spectral emissions in a rocket engine plume during launch thereof. By detecting a launch upon rocket engine ignition, despite a cloud layer, a gain of up to thirty seconds or more of launch warning is realized and the location of the launch can be accurately determined and the trajectory of such rocket more accurately plotted for enhanced response to such launch. The plume detector of the invention can be carried on a platform such as an aircraft or an orbiting satellite. In each case such detector can spectrally isolate the narrow spectral emissions of interest of a missile or other rocket, as it is launched, for faster tracking and response.

  • Patent number: 6491116
Abstract: A downhole tool for sealing a wellbore. The downhole tool includes a packer with a ball seat defined therein. A sealing ball is carried with the packer into the well. The movement of the sealing ball away from the ball seat is limited by a ball cage which is attached to the upper end of the packer. The ball cage has a plurality of ports therethrough for allowing flow into the ball cage and through the packer at certain flow rates. A spring is disposed in a longitudinal opening of the packer and engages the sealing ball to prevent the sealing ball from engaging the ball seat until a predetermined flow rate is reached. When the packer is set in the hole, flow through the frac plug below a predetermined flow rate is permitted. Once a predetermined flow rate in the well is reached, a spring force of the spring will be overcome and the sealing ball will engage the ball seat so that no flow through the frac plug is permitted.
