Patent number: 7201615Abstract: A connector has a housing (10) with cavities (11) for receiving terminal fittings (30). Locks (15B) are formed unitarily with the housing and are cantilevered into the cavities (11). Deformation spaces (21) are formed adjacent the lock (15B) to accommodate resilient deformation of the locks (15B). Each lock (15B) has a reinforcing ribs (18) facing into the deformation space (21). Additionally, a wall (41) of the deformation space (21) has an escaping portion (47) for accommodating the reinforcing rib (18). The reinforcing ribs (18) strengthen the locks (15B) and escaping portions (47) prevent enlargement of the housing (10).Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2005Date of Patent: April 10, 2007Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Eiji Kojima

Patent number: 7048582Abstract: A female terminal fitting (20) has a main portion (21) that can be inserted into a cavity. An engaging portion (50) for engaging a lock (17) in the cavity is folded back from the front of the main portion (21). The fold (55) is rounded and contacts the lock (17) when the terminal fitting (20) is inserted into a cavity. Thus, resistance to insertion is low. The engaging portion (50) is distanced from an opposed surface (25) of the main portion (21) by an embossment (51). Thus, a large area of engagement with the lock (17) exists. A slanted surface (53) is formed at a corner of a locking surface (52) closer to the ceiling plate (25). Thus, the leading end of the lock (17) intrudes at the inner side of the slanted surface (53) to prevent the lock (17) from escaping.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2005Date of Patent: May 23, 2006Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Masaaki Tabata, Eiji Kojima

Publication number: 20060068647Abstract: Locks (15B) are provided with reinforcing ribs (18) to partly project from surfaces of the locks (15B) facing deformation spaces (21B), and escaping portions (47) for accommodating the reinforcing ribs (18) are formed at positions facing the locks (15B) in a surface of a wall (41) facing the deformation spaces (21). The rigidity of the locks (15B) is increased by the reinforcing ribs (18). Thus, the reliability of a function of retaining terminal fittings (30) is higher. Further, in the process of inserting the terminal fittings (30), the reinforcing ribs (18) are accommodated into the escaping portions (47) as the locks (15) are deformed. This can avoid the enlargement of a connector along the deforming direction of the locks resulting from the formation of the reinforcing ribs (18).Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2005Publication date: March 30, 2006Applicant: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Eiji Kojima

Publication number: 20050260883Abstract: Male connectors (10) are accommodated in an ECU casing C, and connect with female connectors (20) connected with ends of wires (Wa). The male and female connectors (10, 20) are locked together by engaging a lock (45) on a lock arm (40) of the female connector (20) with an engaging portion (47) of the male connector (10). The fracture strength of the engaging portion (47) of the male connector (10) exceeds the fracture strength of the lock (45) of the female connector (20). Thus, an excessive force acting to separate the locked connectors (10, 20) will fracture the lock (45) of the female connector (20) first to cancel the locked state. This avoids fracturing the engaging portion (47) of the male connector (10).Type: ApplicationFiled: May 16, 2005Publication date: November 24, 2005Applicant: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Tetsuya Aihara, Eiji Kojima

Patent number: 6948986Abstract: A housing (30) has cavities (31) for receiving terminal fittings (10), and a lock (33) is provided in each cavity (31). The terminal fitting (10) temporarily resiliently deforms the lock (33) when the terminal fitting (10) is inserted into the cavity (31). The lock (33) then is restored resiliently to engage the terminal fitting (10) when the terminal fitting (10) reaches a proper depth. An outer wall (17) of the terminal fitting (10) facing the lock (33) has a locking projection (27) projecting toward and engageable with the lock (33). A recess (54) is formed in a surface of the lock (33) that slides in contact with the locking projection (27) in an inserting process. An arcuate surface (29a) of the locking projection (27) and a bottom surface (54a) of the recess (54) have substantially conforming shapes.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2004Date of Patent: September 27, 2005Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Eiji Kojima, Keigo Atsumi, Atsushi Nishida, Masato Minakata
