Abstract: A system and method are provided for improving speech recognition accuracy. Contextual information about user speech may be received, and then speech recognition analysis can be performed on the user speech using the contextual information. This allows the system and method to improve accuracy when performing tasks like searching and navigating using speech recognition.

Abstract: A method of dynamically altering a user experience based on safety level is provided. A first user experience is provided to a user in a vehicle. The information is received from an information source. The information is used to calculate a safety level score for a vehicle. Then, a second user experience different than the first user experience is provided to the user in the vehicle, based on the safety level score.

Abstract: A method of dynamically altering a user interface on an electronic device is provided. A user interface is presented to a user, wherein the user interface includes one or more elements. Then, a first aspect of a physical environment of the electronic device is determined. One or more elements of the user interface can then be dynamically modified based on the determined first aspect of the physical environment of the electronic device.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided including a processor, a memory, and a door. A scale is configured to, when the door is opened, measure the weight of an item placed in the apparatus. A scanner is then configured to, when the door is opened, scan an item placed in the apparatus. The processor is then configured to track the weight of the item when the item is placed in the apparatus and to automatically reorder more of the item in response to a determination that the weight of the item has fallen below a predefined threshold.

Abstract: In an example embodiment, a method of dynamically optimizing a user interface on an electronic device is provided. A user interface is presented to a user, wherein the user interface includes one or more elements. User interactions with the one or more elements are then measured. The one or more elements of the user interface are then dynamically modified based on the measured user interaction.

Abstract: In an example embodiment, an active pixel sensor on a user device is utilized to capture graphical user interface navigation related movements by a user. Areas of low luminance can be identified and movements or alterations in the areas of low luminance can be translated into navigation commands fed to an application running on the user device.

Abstract: A method and system are provided to facilitate recognition of gestures representing commands to initiate actions within an electronic marketplace on behalf of a user. Spatial data about an environment external to a depth sensor may be received by an action machine. The action machine may generate a first model of a body of the user based on a first set of spatial data received at a first time. The action machine may then generate a second model of the body of the user based on a second set of spatial data received at a second time. The action machine may further determine that a detected difference between the first and second models corresponds to a gesture by the user, and that this gesture represents a command by the user to initiate an action within the electronic marketplace on behalf of the user.

Abstract: A software widget running on a user device may be designed to operate in a locked or an unlocked mode. In unlocked mode, the user has full interactivity with the widget. In locked mode, however, at least some of the interactivity with the widget is restricted, despite the fact that the widget still operates normally otherwise while in the locked mode. While in locked mode, user input may be compared against a predefined unlocking sequence to determine if the widget should be unlocked.

Abstract: A virtual-world benefit may be used to motivate a physical-world purchase. A game machine presents a suggestion that a user (e.g., a player of a game hosted by the game machine) make a purchase of physical-world item, and the suggestion includes an indication that the purchase entitles the user to the virtual-world benefit, thus providing the user with an incentive to make the purchase of the physical-world item. The virtual-world benefit may include a virtual world item, an amount of virtual-world currency, or both. Supposing that the user makes the purchase, the game machine accesses purchase data of the physical-world item. The purchase data indicates that the user has made the purchase. Based on the purchase data, the game machine changes a data structure of the user. The data structure is accessible by a process that configures the virtual environment as including the virtual-world benefit.

Abstract: Systems and methods to assist buyers in selecting compatible components of a product are described. The system identifies a product associated with a plurality of component classes. Next, the system identifies a list of items by searching for items based on the component classes. The system then receives a selection of a first item. After a selection of the first item has been received, the system generates a list of compatible items by removing items from the identified list of items that are incompatible with the first item. Finally, the system presents the buyer with a user interface communicating the list of compatible items.

Abstract: Method, apparatus, and system for providing an item image to a client for display in a contextual environment are described. In some embodiments, the user may select an item for display in the contextual environment, and the user may position a camera coupled to a processing system to capture the contextual environment. A marker may be generated and associated with an item selected by a user. In an embodiment, the generated marker may be placed in a location within the contextual environment, and the user's processing system may send a visual data stream of the camera-captured environment to a server. In an embodiment, the user's processing device may receive a modified data stream including an image of the item, and the user's processing device may display the item image in the same location as the marker.

Abstract: In various exemplary embodiments, a system and an associated method to retrieve information related to marketplace items within an electronic environment are disclosed. A network architecture comprises a listing module to store the information related to the marketplace items. The related information includes one or more user-created items such as an image of a model with one or more tagged items worn by the model. Each of the one or more tagged items has associated descriptive metadata. A communications module is arranged to receive a query including search terms related to social fashion items from an end-user. A query engine is coupled to the communications module to match the search terms contained within the query to the associated descriptive metadata of the tagged items in the listing module. A processing module then displays to the end-user the model and the one or more tagged items.

Abstract: In an example embodiment, a method of identifying an item depicted in an image is provided. In this method, the image depicting the item is accessed; in addition, other images and their item identifiers are also accessed. A match of the image with one of the other images is identified. With a match, the image is then associated with an item identifier of the matched image.

A topical attribute associated with the time period news data may be obtained. A search request for data from a target data source may be received. The search request may include request criterion. The search request may be processed using the request criterion and the topical attribute to obtain result data. The result data may be provided from the target data source.
