  • Publication number: 20050204402
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention creates a model of the traffic through a network firewall and uses that model to dynamically manipulate the network firewall based on human intervention or based on the automatic invocations of processes and protocols that implement firewall policy. Another embodiment of the invention creates a model of the physical and virtual network interfaces that a firewall system controls and presents abstracted entities representing both the interface abstractions and the processing nodes (network segments or network client devices) to and through which network traffic flows.

  • Publication number: 20050204168
Abstract: A system and method of providing network access comprising a processor, a first network interface coupled to the processor, a second network interface coupled to the processor, a storage media accessible by the processor and a set of computer instructions stored on the storage media, executable by the processor, where the computer instructions can be executable to receive a network communication over the first network interface from a user using a user device and determine if the network communication is associated with an authenticated user. If the network communication is not associated with an authenticated user, is not destined for a server in a walled garden, and a pre-authentication interface is specified, the computer instructions can be executable to direct the user to the pre-authentication interface.

  • Patent number: 6916362
Abstract: An isolation device for one or more ion transport membranes and that has a housing and one or more check valves in communication with one or more passageways extending through the housing to prevent gas flow within the housing and the ion transport membrane(s) upon breakage thereof. Where a lance tube is used with the oxygen transport membrane a second check valve can be used. The check valves, preferably contain spring loaded poppet valves which, though normally open, are capable of resetting themselves into a closed position upon breakage or other failure of the oxygen transport membrane tubes.

  • Patent number: 6892377
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for platform-independent file system interaction that can abstract the system-level idiosyncrasies associated with multi-platform, multi-language, multi-encoding file system interactions. One embodiment of the method of this invention can comprise instantiating a string object via a development environment coded calling process and setting a file name and a file path, having an easily-identifiable format, for the string object with the calling process. The string object can determine the encoding of the file name and the file path and the calling process can forward the string object and an associated file operation to an operating system level file system interface handler. The operating system level file system interface handler can call an operating system naming function to format the string object. The string object naming function can be compiled along with an encoding marker indicating the target operating system for the desired file operation.

  • Publication number: 20050089729
Abstract: A system includes a first load, a second load, a fuel processor, a fuel cell stack and a circuit. The fuel processor provides a fuel flow, and the fuel cell stack is coupled to the first load and adapted to provide a power in response to the fuel flow. At least some of this power is consumed by the first load. The circuit is adapted to in response to a decrease in the power produced by the fuel cell stack and consumed by the first load, determine whether to route at least some of the power produced by the fuel cell stack and not consumed by the first load to the second load, and based on the determination, selectively route some of the power that is produced by the fuel cell stack to the second load.

  • Publication number: 20050044350
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a secure connection between networked computers are disclosed. A computer may make a request for a secure connection to another networked computer. In response, configuration data may be sent to the requesting computer which configures a protocol on the requesting computer and establishes a secure connection with the other networked computer. This configuration data may advantageously utilize protocols inherent to particular operating systems to setup and establish this secure connection in an automated fashion, and may include a controller designed to both automatically configure such a protocol and automatically establish a secure connection using the protocol.

  • Publication number: 20050027709
Abstract: A method and system are provided for native-byte form handling, one embodiment comprising a method for encoding user-submitted native-byte form data in a client-server computer network. A user, at a client computer, can select a Uniform Resource Locator (“URL”) with his or her web browser for access to a content provider's website. When accessing the content provider's web server, the client computer can transmit client computer specific information to the web server that can be used by the web server to determine the user's locale. The web server can determine the user's (client computer's) locale using, for example, an automatic locale detection algorithm, and forward the user's locale information to a back-end server. The content provider's back-end server can generate a locale-specific form having a pre-populated, uniquely-named field, using, for example, a dynamic page generation program. The locale-specific form can be served to the user's web browser for display to the user.

  • Publication number: 20040177276
Abstract: More particularly, one embodiment of the present invention provides a system of providing network access comprising a processor, a first network interface coupled to the processor, a second network interface coupled to the processor, a storage media accessible by the processor and a set of computer instructions stored on the storage media, executable by the processor. In one embodiment of the present invention, the computer instructions can be executable to receive a network communication over the first network interface from a user using a user device and determine if the network communication is associated with an authenticated user. If the network communication is not associated with an authenticated user, the computer instructions can be executable to direct the user to an authentication interface. The computer instructions can be further executable to receive credentials from the user and authenticate the user based on the credentials.

  • Patent number: 6547286
Abstract: A joint to connect a tubular ceramic element to a tubesheet. The joint has an internal seal housing to retain the tubular ceramic element and an external seal housing connected to the tubesheet to retain the internal seal housing. A ceramic-to-metal seal is located within the internal seal housing and a metal-to-metal seal is located between the internal seal housing and an external seal housing. The external seal housing is connected to the tubesheet. The internal seal housing is assembled in sections to allow assembly of the ceramic-to-metal seal to be assembled and tested prior to joining the tubular ceramic element to the tubesheet. After perfection of such seal, the internal seal housing and tubular ceramic element is inserted into the external seal housing and sealed within the external seal housing by the metal-to-metal seal.

  • Patent number: 6454274
Abstract: A joint assembly for joining a ceramic membrane of tubular form to a tube sheet used in supporting the ceramic membrane within a reactor. The ceramic membrane is received within a fixture connected to the tube sheet and a follower, extending into the fixture, exerts a force on a high temperature sealing element located between the fixture and the ceramic membrane to effect a seal and to hold the ceramic membrane in place. The force can be exerted directly on the sealing element or on the ceramic membrane itself.

  • Patent number: 6402988
Abstract: An exothermic reaction and an endothermic reaction are thermally combined in a reactor having at least one oxygen selective ion transport membrane that provides the exothermic reaction with oxygen from an oxygen-containing gas such as air. The thermal requirements of the endothermic reaction are satisfied by the exothermic reaction. Dependent on the reactor design employed, the exothermic and endothermic reactions may be gaseously combined.

  • Patent number: 6341550
Abstract: A light weight, strong and flexible, braided electrical fence rope, for fences to contain livestock and keep unwanted animals out, combines in its outer braided jacket electrically conductive elements with high strength non-conductive elements in a double helix configuration. The outer braided jacket will preferably surround an inner core of non-conductive high strength elements. The high strength non-conductive elements and the physical properties of the braided rope construction provide inherent strength and flexibility properties to the fence rope. The conductive elements in the outer braided jacket are selected to provide an effective electric shock when contacted by an animal. This electric fence rope combines barrier strength and psychological deterrence to both domestic and wild animals.
