Abstract: Disclosed is an electrolyte for a rechargeable lithium battery. The electrolyte includes non-aqueous solvent and silicon powder. Silicon powder reacts with hydrogen halide produced by reacting a solute with water, thereby removing the hydrogen halide. The solvent may be an organic solvent such as a cyclic or chain carbonates, or a mixture thereof. The amount of silicon powder is 0.01 to 5 wt % of the organic solvent.

Abstract: An organic electrolyte containing an organic solvent mixture and a lithium salt, wherein the organic solvent mixture includes 20 to 60% by volume of ethylene carbonate, 5 to 30% by volume of polypropylene carbonate, and 20 to 70% by volume of chain carbonate. The organic electrolyte improves charge/discharge cycle characteristics while maintaining high discharge capacity and low-temperature discharge characteristics.

Abstract: Disclosed are non-flammable electrolyte compositions of the present invention that comprise a mixed solvent comprising carbonate-, thiocarbonate-, and phosphate-based solvents and inorganic additives such as metal compounds or metal halogen compounds. A mixed ratio of carbonate:thiocarbonate:phosphate-based solvent is in the range of 20˜75:5˜30:15˜50. The metal compounds or metal halogen compounds are exemplified by triphenylbismuth carbonate, triphenylbismuth, bismuth subnitrate, bismuth subcarbonate, dimethyl pyrocabonate, diethyl pyrocarbonate, bismuth fluoride, and the like. The inorganic additives are contained in the electrolytes of the present invention in the amounts of about 0.3 to about 5 weight percent of the mixed solvent.
