Abstract: A “Name Disambiguator” provides various techniques for implementing an interactive framework for resolving or disambiguating entity names (associated with objects such as publications) for entity searches where two or more same or similar names may refer to different entities. More specifically, the Name Disambiguator uses a combination of user input and automatic models to address the disambiguation problem. In various embodiments, the Name Disambiguator uses a two part process, including: 1) a global SVM trained from large sets of documents or objects in a simulated interactive mode, and 2) further personalization of local SVM models (associated with individual names or groups of names such as, for example, a group of coauthors) derived from the global SVM model. The result of this process is that large sets of documents or objects are rapidly and accurately condensed or clustered into ordered sets by that are organized by entity names.

Abstract: A method and process for obtaining a metal stamp from an intermediate polymer stamp comprising the steps of providing a first print layer on top of a first polymer layer, imprinting structures to obtain an intermediate stamp. A conductive layer is provided on top of the structures to obtain a seed layer if the imprinted polymer is a non-conductive, plating metal on top of the intermediate polymer stamp to obtain a metal stamp then separating the intermediate stamp from the metal stamp. This invention demonstrates stamp replication in high throughput and at low cost.

A method for indexing a data stream having attribute values includes the steps of parsing the data stream, and forming an index of tuples for a subset of attribute values of the data stream. The index is configured for retrieving the top-K tuples that optimize linearly weighted sums of at least some of the attribute values in the subset.

Initially, an estimate is set for the first cost factor. During processing of the query, the estimate of the first cost factor is updated to enable refinement of the progress indicator.

Abstract: The automated social networking graph mining and visualization technique described herein mines social connections and allows creation of a social networking graph from general (not necessarily social-application specific) Web pages. The technique uses the distances between a person's/entity's name and related people's/entities names on one or more Web pages to determine connections between people/entities and the strengths of the connections. In one embodiment, the technique lays out these connections, and then clusters them, in a 2-D layout of a social networking graph that represents the Web connection strengths among the related people's or entities' names, by using a force-directed model.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for detecting new events in a video stream that yield improved detection efficiency in real time. For example, a method determines whether a given event is a new event in a video stream. The video stream includes a plurality of events. A first step extracts a first set of features (e.g., text features) from the given event. The first set of features is computationally less expensive to process as compared to a second set of features (e.g., image features) associated with the given event. A second step computes one or more first dissimilarity values between the given event and one or more previous events in the video stream using only the first set of features when one or more first dissimilarity criteria exist. A third step determines whether the given event is a new event based on the one or more computed first dissimilarity values.

The materialized view comprises results of some operation performed between two or more base relations of a parallel database management system comprising a plurality of nodes. The two or more base relations are distributed to the nodes according to some partitioning strategy. Each auxiliary relation is partitioned according to the join attribute in the materialized view definition. During join or other operations involving the relations, the auxiliary relations, not the base relations, are used to construct join results and to maintain the materialized view.

The door is provided with a latching mechanism that includes an extendible latching pin for receipt within a latch receiver in the door jam. A remaining resource requirement for each of the plurality of queries is estimated, based on the progress status of, and the amount of resource consumed by, each of the plurality of queries. Resource allocation is adjusted based on the at least one execution objective and the estimates of the remaining resource requirements.

The method includes capturing, from among documents in a document streaming environment, first-story documents that mention previously unmentioned events. The method further includes dynamically adjusting a thoroughness of the capturing step by controlling a number of keywords and documents considered according to a real-time system load.

In response to receiving the transaction, a predefined first lock is placed on at least a portion of the join view, the predefined first lock conflicting with either a shared lock or an exclusive lock placed on the join view, but not conflicting with another predefined first lock placed on the join view. Also, a latch or semaphore associated with a value of a predetermined attribute of the tuple is obtained before integrating the tuple into the join view.
