  • Patent number: 6935286
Abstract: The present invention relates to a connection between a shaft end of a gas exchange valve of an internal combustion engine and a sleeve-shaped actuating element of a valve actuator, which is guided in an axially movable manner within a pressure region, which is able to be pressurized with a pressure medium, of the valve actuator and at least partially surrounds the shaft end. The present invention provides for the connection to be situated outside of the pressure region and in the region of an opening, which is formed on the side of the valve actuator away from the combustion chamber, and is, for example, coaxial to the shaft end.

  • Publication number: 20050115542
Abstract: A method, a device and a computer program for controlling an internal combustion engine, in which a torque model is used within the framework of calculating instantaneous variables and/or actuating variables. In doing so, a basic value ascertained under standard conditions is corrected as a function of the inert-gas rate and/or the valve-overlap angle. Moreover, to further improve the accuracy of the model, the efficiency for the conversion of the chemical energy into mechanical energy by which the optimum torque value is corrected, is determined as a function of the deviation between optimum ignition angle and an instantaneous ignition angle as well as an additional variable representing the combustion performance of the mixture. The latter is the optimum ignition angle.

  • Patent number: 6802299
Abstract: A control system and a control method for an internal combustion engine have a cylinder including an intake valve and an exhaust valve with a fully variable valve-gear assembly. An engine control unit determines setpoint values with regard to a fresh gas charge, an internal residual gas charge, a torque reduction, an EGR control strategy, and a charging strategy. In addition, a transmission device is provided which transmits setpoint values determined by the engine control unit to a valve control unit in synchronization with the crankshaft angle. The valve control unit controls the fully variable valve-gear assembly of the intake and exhaust valve of the cylinder of the internal combustion engine on the basis of the setpoint values determined by the engine control unit.

  • Patent number: 6754577
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a combustion chamber, a crankshaft and inlet and outlet valves. The engine is operated with a method wherein a fresh air charge (rl) of the combustion chamber and the engine rpm (nmot) are considered when computing a pressure (ps) in a region lying upstream of the inlet valve. The computation is done by utilizing at least one of thermodynamic equations and flow equations at at least one discrete time point during a work cycle of the engine. Or, a pressure (ps) in the above region and the rpm (nmot) of the crankshaft are considered when computing the fresh air charge (rl) of the combustion chamber by utilizing one of thermodynamic equations and flow equations at at least one discrete time point during a work cycle of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6739361
Abstract: A method and an apparatus operate a tank system including a tank system of a motor vehicle. The tank system includes a tank for receiving a fluid medium forming a volatile substance and an adsorption filter connected to the tank for receiving the volatile substance which emanates from the tank. A shutoff valve is connected to the adsorption filter and is drivable between an open position and a closed position whereat the tank system is closed off to the ambient. A tank fill-level sensor detects the fill level of the fluid medium in the tank. A fill pipe is connected to the tank for filling with the fluid medium. The fill level is detected while tanking and the shutoff valve is driven into the closed position when the fill level has reached a maximum fill level.

  • Patent number: 6681729
Abstract: A method and a device for controlling a gas fill of a plurality of cylinders in an internal combustion engine having variable valve timing, in which a detection signal of a filling sensor is sampled with a sampling rate. Furthermore, a detection interval is determined for one cylinder. The sampling values for ascertaining a sampling-value sum are added up within this detection interval. In addition, a number of sampling values within the first detection interval are counted for ascertaining a first count value. The air mass filled into the first cylinder is then ascertained by forming a quotient from the sampling-value sum and the count value.
