  • Patent number: 6045649
Abstract: In a method for the manufacture of brushware, particularly brushes, in a thermoplastic material bristle carrier are formed several blind holes, into each of which is inserted a thermoplastic material bristle coverage in the form of a single bristle or a bristle bundle, preferably accompanied by a close fit and until it rests on the bottom of the blind hole. The bristle carrier and bristle coverage are then welded together in the contact portion thereof, in that laser beams are transmitted through the bristle carrier or bristle coverage and directly applied to the contact portion and absorbed there, accompanied by the formation of heat.

  • Patent number: 6036277
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for the manufacture of brushes, and brushes manufactured according to such method. A bristle carrier of a elastic material is provided with at least one substantially cylindrically elongated recess. An elongated bristle bundle is inserted into the elongated recess. The bristle bundle has a thickened portion at its insertion end with a transverse cross-section larger than the narrowest transverse cross-section of the recess. The longitudinal axis of the bristle bundle is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the recess, and a force is applied longitudinally on the thickened portion to cause a wall of the recess to elastically spring out so as to permit passage of the thickened portion. After passage of the thickened portion, the wall springs back until engagement of the wall on the bristle bundle occurs to secure the bristle bundle in the recess.

  • Patent number: 6019744
Abstract: The invention relates to a tampon applicator having a cylindrical outer sleeve and an inner sleeve, which is displaceable therein, is provided with an axial longitudinal slit and encloses a tampon. A tongue-shaped retention element is integrally connected to the outer sleeve so as to be bendable and projects through the longitudinal slit of the inner sleeve into the latter, and lies against the rear end of the tampon. When the inner sleeve is withdrawn out of the outer sleeve, the tampon is held in place by the retention element and transferred into the outer sleeve. The retention element is provided with one part of a locking mechanism (detent plate), the other part of which is formed by one of the two sleeves (longitudinal edges of the longitudinal slit of the inner sleeve. The aforesaid locking parts interact in such a way that the retention element is locked in its engaged position bent into the inner sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5985192
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the manufacture of screwlike bristles by extruding monofilaments. In order to provide a method with which screwlike bristles can be inexpensively manufactured in the same way as conventional bristles with an identical, predeterminable quality, a monofilament having a non-circular cross-section is extruded and is prestretched after drawing off, accompanied by a reduction in its cross-section, followed by further stretching, twisting to a screwlike bristle material over at least part of its length and then stabilization by shrinkage. It is possible to extrude a monofilament with an oval or polygonal cross-section or having a core and at least one axially parallel rib. According to a further method, at least two monofilaments are prestretched on drawing off, accompanied by a reduction of their cross-section, followed by further stretching, twisting together to give a screwlike bristle material and stabilization by heat shrinkage.

  • Patent number: 5815874
Abstract: A brush with a one-piece plastic brush body produced by injection moulding comprises a head covered with bristles and a dimensionally stable handle with a larger cross-section than the head, the brush body being made from an elastomer mixed with a foaming agent and the plastic is foamed in an area of the handle and is solid in the area of the head. The brush is produced by injection moulding in a two-part mould. An elastomer and a foaming agent are mixed during moulding. The mould cross-section for forming the head is smaller than the mould cross section for forming the handle with the elastomer being only foamed in the area of the handle.

  • Patent number: 5803646
Abstract: The invention is an apparatus for the detachable fastening of cleaning implements, such as brooms, scrubbing brushes or the like to a stick or handle. The stick is provided at its end with two fork-shaped, resilient arms, which can be fixed in bores of the cleaning implement with the aid of a fixing device. The fixing device comprises a handle, an operating element located between the arms and contact faces which engage the arms and spread the arms outwardly or draw the arms inwardly by rotation or displacement. The contact faces of the operating element are constructed on rotary bearing parts, preferably bearing rollers or rolls, which roll on the arms during the adjusting movement of the operating element.

  • Patent number: 5176427
Abstract: For the treatment of bristles of brushes, the bristles are fixed in spaced manner from the use-side ends, which are cut to size and subsequently treated by a planar abrading surface arranged at right angles to the bristle extension and all of whose points are moved on circular paths having the same diameter. For setting the contact pressure the abrading surface is fed in the direction of the bristles and for influencing the treatment result the bristles are laterally supported between their fixing point and their use-side ends in a variable spacing from the abrading surface, but which is always the same for all the bristles.

  • Patent number: 5087403
Abstract: Bristle articles can be manufactured in that the bristle carrier and optionally the ends of the bristles are melted and brought together under pressure, or the bristles are introduced into an injection or foaming mould for the bristle carrier and are embedded in the bristle carrier material by injection moulding or foaming. The cycle time of these processes is extremely long as a result of the thermal processes (heating, melting, injection moulding, cooling). It is possible to significantly reduce the same in that the tools for holding or producing the bristle carrier on the one hand and the clamping devices for the bristles on the other are moved on closed paths and the clamping devices at at least one common station are transferred to the path of the tools and at least during the thermal processes are jointly moved with the tools and are subsequently returned to their movement path.

  • Patent number: 5045267
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the production of bristle articles include introducing the plastic bristles in the form of individual bristles or bristle strands through channels and sleeves extending the latter in to a mould for the bristle carrier, followed by thermal melting on their end located on the mould for formation of a thickened portion and the thickened portion on the bristle ends formed during melting is then sealingly engaged on the opening of the sleeve projecting into the mould. During the filling of the mould, the bristles and sleeve are kept in position within the same and the sleeve and the thickened portion on the bristle end tightly engaging against the opening of the sleeve are enveloped by the bristle carrier material during mould filling and then the sleeve is removed from the bristle carrier.
